September has arrived, which means fall is right around the corner! Well, OK, 2-1/2 weeks before the first official day of fall. Hopefully, Mother Nature will get the memo and bring us the crisp fall weather I love so much. We did get a day of rain (finally!) last week that helped with how dry it’s been, though it also ticked up the humidity a tad – guess it’s a trade-off?
You’ll be glad to know that we have successfully filled the dumpster in our driveway for the first of four emptyings coming up – they’ll come by every Wednesday to empty it so that we can fill it again. I also busted my butt this weekend and got all my boxes and tubs of holiday decor moved from the basement to the shed out back. I didn’t realize how big the furnace room (aka cat room) in the basement really is – I had a lot stashed down there!
This weekend I’ll be organizing all of it in the shed, and figuring out what I’ll keep and what I’ll give away or donate (with our several moves over the years, there were times when I ended up buying new decor when my previous decor was unavailable in piles’o’boxes…heh!) Perhaps I need professional help with my holiday decorating penchant… 😉 Just another example of the fact that I simply have too much stuff (that packrat gene runs deep!) as evidenced by all the stacks’o’boxes I have everywhere I still need to go through and reduce/get rid of. I’m working on it!
In other news, with fall and winter looming, Murphy’s Law is messing with us – we were shocked to see that a section of our shingles near the peak decided to take a trip down the roof:
That’s not good! I left a message to several roofing companies to get a quote on repair – we might be looking at the possibility that it might be time for a new roof. We were doing the math this weekend, and depending on the life-span of this particular roof, if what we were told when we bought this house in January 2017 that the roof was replaced 10 years or less prior to purchase, that means this roof is coming up on about 17 years of its life, which means it’s probably going to be time for a new roof.
I’m hoping that the roof is still in decent shape overall and that we can get away with replacing the wayward shingles and waiting another year or more to replace the entire roof – that way we can plan and budget for it, instead of it being a large unexpected expense. Fingers crossed!
Well, Christmas is only about 16 weeks away! Egads! I’m of course keeping this countdown active, either it will be helpful or annoying – or annoyingly helpful!
Let’s dive into the funnies, shall we? This cracked me up:

That last one was kinda sad! I loved the one with the animals… and the duck. We’ve gone about two months with no rain and temp up to 109 one day last week. Not sure if summer’s gonna last till October or November this year! Have a good week!
Love Grandma with the brass knuckles, the duck, and Calvin and Hobbes…
Heeheehee! Every couple has a chatty spouse and a quiet spouse (I’m the quiet one) and every quiet spouse would love 4 hours a day of guaranteed quiet.
Enjoy your purging of goods and having the dumpster. It sounds like it’s working out very well for you.
