Can you believe we’re already halfway through May? It’s been an unusually cold month here in the Pacific Northwest – usually we have 70-degree temps with ‘good sleepin’ weather’ cooler nights, but it’s just been cold day and night. It’s finally starting to warm up, though – but I’m over the peekaboo sun/rain/sunny-while-raining mode we’ve been experiencing.

That being said, however, I distinctly remember we had a crazy (and unusual) heatwave last June, so I’m hoping we don’t repeat that action this year. It appears that the weather apps are predicting a heatwave early June, so we’ll see what actually pans out. Normally we kick off summer camping season over Memorial Day weekend, but I think we’re going to push that out this year, because no one wants to be camping in a tent if it’s cold and rainy, right?

Plus, if we do get ‘decent’ weather over that 3-day weekend, we’ll be wanting to get the yard in shape with the planting we’ve been putting off because it’s been too cold or rainy (or both!) to get down to business with that. So sacrificing a weekend relaxing in nature will be working in nature at home. I’m down with that, especially since 99% of the ‘work’ involved for getting all the camping gear organized and set up falls on my shoulders, since I’m the ‘camping expert’ in our family. I might have to start teaching and delegating so I can have more of that elusive relaxation, too. 😉

How’s spring so far in your neck of the woods?

So I may or may not have mentioned that my hubby teaches at a technical college – recently they acquired a new Dean and a new Vice President. Both of whom were not promoted from within, in other words, they were brought in from ‘outside’. Both of them have been wreaking havoc with all the sudden changes they want to see happen. The hubby, who can be cantankerous about sudden changes, has been doing his best to roll with the punches. We’ll see how that plays out in the long run, particularly when some of the changes may invoke the ire of the Union.

There’s another instructor there who teaches students how to record and produce music videos – cool, right? He also happens to have connections in the music business – and by ‘connections’, we’re not talking Don Corleone type connections, he has amazing music industry connections. So much so, that he was able to secure a top national band to come to the campus and play music for the students to record and produce a video.

They didn’t ask for any payment, but they did rearrange their touring schedule to accommodate this very cool donation of their time. The instructor and the students spent three solid days setting up the room where all this awesomeness would take place, making sure the recording implements, lighting, sound, etc. were positioned perfectly for a seamless session.

They completed their setup on a Friday, the band was going to be on campus early the next week, so they had at least Monday to do final tweaks to make sure the band’s generous offer of time wasn’t wasted. My hubby, who’s a musician himself, was looking forward to getting to do a mini jam session to help test out the setup to make sure everything was perfect for this national band.

Except.

Friday afternoon the Vice President decided they wanted to hold some sort of training session Monday morning with an excessive number of people, and looking at the room configurations, there was only one room on campus that would be perfect to hold this training session.

Bet you can guess which room that might be, can’t you?

Yep. The room where everything was set up for the national band to help out the students with their recording project.

That room. The one that took three full days to set up just right.

Did the VP reach out to the instructor to find out if that room could be used for something else? Nope. Simply sent out an email to the custodians instructing them to set up that room for the training session, and that it had to be ready by 9:00am Monday morning, as that’s when the training was expected to start.

When the video production instructor arrived on campus Monday morning, he was mortified to find out that all their meticulously placed sound/video/music equipment was stacked along the sides of the room, replaced with a myriad of round tables for the training session.

He. Was. Livid.

To add insult to injury, not a soul attended the training session. Not. One. Person. The only people in the room were the ones who were going to administer the training session. The destruction of the room was in vain.

And because the national band was scheduled to be there the next day, there was absolutely no time to re-setup the room again to make the magic happen. They had to be canceled. And because they had been generous to rearrange their tour schedule to accommodate this class, they lost money. So they’ll be suing the school. As they should.

Rumor has it that the national band being so generous to help this class out: Imagine Dragons.

Imagine Dragons, people! One of my favorite bands! I totally would have made lunch plans with the hubby and been happy to drive the 90 minutes there just to see them in person while they were there, that’s for sure. Whatever happened to common courtesy these days? You’d think that if either the new VP or the custodial people saw that the room was set up for something specific, they’d ask questions. I just don’t get it.

That, my friends, is the epitome of a lost opportunity. In more ways that one. How much you wanna bet the instructor won’t be using his connections for something this cool in the future?

Let’s jump into the funnies, shall we? This cracked me up:

  1. That dog/lady picture is hilarious!
If I were that guy, I’d be livid too. Seriously, whether it was Imagine Dragons or some small-time band, courtesy should have been in play.
The weather is finally starting to get somewhat decent here.

  2. Having to prove i’m a human does get annoying.

Thanks for the funnies, and yes, getting stuck in an outfit isn’t fun, don’t ask.

    Have a great week!
