Happy New Year! Hopefully this year won’t speed by as fast as every year past has… So remember when I told you about our White Christmas?

We actually got snow on Christmas Day (WooHoo!) and the picture above was the day after when the snow decided to really come down. This next one was on December 29th:

The sun graced us with its presence for a couple of days (with snow at night) just before yet another major snow event that night through the next day. Needless to say, we were unable to get off our hill for the entire week because of too much snow and ice. We ultimately got over a foot of snow overall, the temperatures stayed at or below freezing for the ‘high’ each day, and dipped into the teens every night for the low.

This is funny – when people kept posting on our local Facebook page asking about how the roads were throughout the week, someone finally posted this:

It’s amazing, though – you remember over the summer we had record-breaking heat, right? Now we’ve embraced winter with record-breaking lows. The pendulum has certainly swung in the other direction! But personally I’m much more OK with the cold weather than I was with the extreme heat – I’ve always said, when it’s cold you can always layer and bundle up, but when it’s too freakin’ hot, you can only take so many clothes off!

The typical rains have returned here, though – so of course yesterday and today the overabundance of rain is erasing all the pretty snow. I heard a rumor we might have more snow coming towards the end of the week, but since we are in the Pacific Northwest, I’ll believe it when I see it.

The world lost such an amazing human being on New Years Eve – I had really hoped that Betty White would live past her 100th birthday coming up, but that was sadly not to be. When I grow up, I want to be just like her. I loved reading all the tributes to her, and this drawing is perfection:

Let’s shake off the sads and move on to the funnies, shall we? This is funny – and so true, people were setting off fireworks randomly the days leading up to New Years Eve – and of course there were always multiple people complaining about it on the Facebook page, so this is relatable and funny:

  1. Stacy,

The snow is really pretty. We got our first snow fall for 2022 Sunday night, leaving 3-4 inches of that good ole wet kind of stuff that makes really super good snowmen and knocks out the power. Well, we didn’t make any snowmen but our electricity went out on Monday morning at 6am. DH heard a boom. He phoned in the outage. We didn’t get out of bed until 1:30 that afternoon. It was the warmest place to be with no alternate heat source. After we got up, we found our Internet also was out and it didn’t come back on until last night. After spring-like weather last week this front served to remind me that it’s really winter and I want the return of spring. We might see some snow later in the week, as well and like you seeing it is believing it. Personally, I’m good without it. : ) Have a wonderful week, my dear!

  2. The swamps are glad you got the snow and not us. We don’t do extreme cold well at all.

Loved the funnies, especially the point about charcuterie. Have a great week!
