We have arrived at November! How is that even possible? The weeks feel like they drag on forever – in fact, I mentioned to someone at the end of the day yesterday (Monday – today/Monday if you’re reading this before midnight) “Today sure was a long week!” which means we’re kicking off November already crazy busy.

But that’s OK, because there will be a lull around Thanksgiving week (well, except for the fervor of activity preparing for the Thanksgiving feast), but I’ll most likely be able to finally catch my breath during the week between Christmas and New Year, since most of my clients are taking that time off.

Whew!

Meanwhile, today marks Little Dude’s 14th birthday! How in the world is time flying by so quickly?! Seems like yesterday he flew on a big plane to us from Washington State to Pennsylvania (August 12, 2011, to be exact) so we could foster him – we officially adopted him on June 29, 2012.

He spent his first full day with us in his jammies (because he wanted  to, and because he could ):

5th day in, he was already causing trouble by putting the cushy toddler toilet seat over his head – but couldn’t get it back off, because his ears were in the way:

Of course I had to take a picture first, because it was just too hilarious – he laughs about it now, even used this picture in an ‘about me’ collage for school one year.

And then of course he seems to manage to crack his head open at least once a school year (always – I mean always – because he’s distracted by a girl):

He’s grown a lot since he arrived – first day of kindergarten:

This year’s first day of 8th grade:

Though he’s definitely small for his age – he looks like he should be 8, not turning 14! With his ADHD, ODD, Sleep Disturbances and something else I can’t remember, he only sleeps 2-4 hours a night, so he’s only currently in the 25-percentile growth-rate for his age. But the boy can sure eat! I pile his plates with enough food to feed three grown men – and he polishes every bit off, so at least there’s that.

Today for his birthday we get to go to the school for Parent/Teacher conferences – doesn’t that sound like a blast? Of course we’ll be doing the whole birthday dinner thing afterwards – Little Dude asked if the restaurant had big enough tables to “invite a whole bunch of people” – I gently told him no, it’s just going to be a ‘family thing’, we’ll plan a big party for his 16th birthday instead. It’ll be on a Saturday, so it’ll be perfect timing for a milestone birthday.

Oh, and when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday – some discontinued toy that was from a game that apparently hasn’t been around since 2013… cheapest one I could find? $250.00 on ebay… um, sorry dude, that’s not in the birthday budget! Gotta love a big dreamer, though.

Alright! Time to move on to the funnies! This cracked me up (and it’s so true):

  1. Love that you posted some of your son’s growing up milestones. Wishing him a happy birthday. Loved the funnies! I am going to see how accurate the claim about the thumb is. LOL

  2. Many happy returns of the day to Little Dude!

Thanks for the funnies, that “still looking at his thumb” will have me giggling all day.

  3. When I was a baby (way back in the Paleolithic era), I had a nasty habit of running into radiators and having to go to the hospital for stitches. My Dad finally told my Mom “We better hurry up and have another one. This one’s not going to last!”

Love the memes. I especially liked the one about Christmas shopping in boats. God, what a mess.
