Greetings and Salutations! Hard to believe Tuesday is here already. I’ve been having those weeks, though, where Tuesday feels like Thursday, and by the time Thursday rolls around, It’s been a very long week. I wonder how long or short the weeks will feel when school starts next week?

While school did (and still does) start in August when we lived in Pennsylvania, it was nice coming back to Washington State to have school start the day after Labor Day. Not sure why this year they’ve decided to start the school year early (for us), on August 30th instead of September 7th. Good thing we found out about it earlier than usual, or we might have made vacation plans during that week, since we’ve always looked at Labor Day weekend as the finale of summer.

Typically the school in our tiny town tends to give everyone last minute notice for everything – like literally the day before, or even the day of at times. Drives me crazy! Oh, Little Dude needs to bring in a collage of pictures? Sure, no problem. Wait, you mean tomorrow?! Problem.

This weekend I stayed completely off my computer and did a major purging and reorganizing in the house – we had an appraiser come out yesterday since we’re looking at refinancing our mortgage with the interest rates percentage being about half of what we got when we bought this house, which means seeing a nice reduction in our monthly payment. The reorganizing and purging is long overdue, of course – nothing like having a stranger come into your house to take pictures, am I right?

I was amazed at how much stuff I got rid of – being a pack rat, I surprised myself at the dent I made. I’m also motivated to keep the momentum going, and purge even more. I’m especially looking forward to finally getting my winemaking room set up, the stainless steel table I ordered has finally arrived, and boxes of winemaking stuff I’d picked up on sale over the last few months I finally moved from the dining room to my winemaking room downstairs.

Now that everything is centrally located, I just need to carve out time to move that stuff back out of the winemaking room to set up the new table, the shelving units I picked up, as well as the wall-hanging fermentors. Then move everything back in, but this time unpack it and get it actually set up.

I’m still pricing stainless steel sinks, though – the room is plumbed for a kitchen, so it’d be nice to have a nice deep double sink for washing bottles, carboys and buckets without having to schlep them up and down the stairs to the not-so-deep sink in the kitchen. I’m kicking myself for not buying the sink I had my eye on – the pricing on that particular sink has now gone up in price by 300%! Crazy. Woulda shoulda coulda. Lesson learned.

I might have to delay the complete setup of the room until after I have a sink installed, though, since that will need to be done by an actual plumber – you know, if I want to make sure it’s done right, and not cause leakage or a flood in the basement…heh! I will be doubling my efforts on locating a sink to make sure it happens sooner rather than later, so it can be done after I’ve moved everything out of the room to give the plumber plenty of room to work their magic.

I’m also debating on modifying the steps to the basement with something like this:

I wonder how hard that would be? The other part I’d worry about is cutting up the 91 year old steps to modify them like that. Not sure I want to carve up history.

Speaking of history, this cracked me up:

  1. That one about the coats and Baum…wow!!!! That cleaning list was intense! I think I would move everything from daily over to weekly, weekly, to monthly, monthly to every 3 months, and so on. When I was in school, we always started the day after labor day and got out the week of Memorial Day. Now, we start in mid-August and often go through the first week of June. It’s crazy!

  2. The cleaning list is about correct except for how often to empty your vacuum cleaner. If it’s a bag, yes, maybe once a month to change it would work. If it’s a cannister, empty after each use.

And please don’t ask me how often i do all those things in my own house, i claim the 5th!

Love that she stole her bike back, i hope she never has to go through that again.

    Thanks for the funnies!
