Dinosaur Tree; Gifts; Cool Wedding Dress and Random Funnies: that’s what Random Tuesday is all about!

Hello Tuesday! You know that saying ‘best laid plans…’ right? Well about that – I still haven’t finished decorating. Haven’t even gotten the ornaments on the tree yet. But hey, it still looks festive, though, right? Right?!

Hopefully this weekend I can finish up. I also need to start organizing the presents I’ve picked up so far – I did a flurry of online shopping over the weekend, and I’m sure with the plethora of boxes coming in shortly, I’d best get organized. Plus, I have a terrible habit of stashing things in a ‘safe’ place, and ultimately that ‘safe’ place is safe even from me. Where did I put that again?

So you see the dinosaur I have next to the tree? Someone out there went one better and actually made a dinosaur tree (it appears to be the same dinosaur skeleton, only painted green). It’s way cool, and I might have to think about doing something like this:

Although I do kinda prefer the setup I have, with the skeleton next to a regular tree… what do you all think?

This is also a cool idea – wish we had some pointy trees at our house, I’d totally do this:

OK, I read this on Facebook the other day, but it’s too cool not to share for those that might have missed it. It’s about this wedding dress:

In summer 1938, in Chicago, Aida Garaffa came out of an ice cream shop and bumped into Gerald “Jerry” Bonsonto, who also lived in her neighborhood. Aida recalled: “Before you knew it, we were walking and talking. Then he asked me if I’d like to go to a movie”. They started dating and spent so many evenings chatting on her front porch.

In December 1942, Jerry joined the U.S. Army and had to say goodbye to the woman he loved. Just before leaving, he asked Aida if she would marry him after the war, and she promised she would. Aida worked really hard in a shoe factory, but she always found time to write to Jerry. She recalled: “I wrote to him every day without fail. Every day he had a letter from me”. As a proud member of the 307th Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Jerry bravely fought for our freedom in Italy and France.

On D-Day, he jumped over Sainte-Mère-Église, but before touching French soil, he was shot in the chest by a German sniper. The bullet perforated a picture of Aida (which she had given him before his departure), but it miraculously missed his heart. Badly wounded, Jerry was taken to a medical aid station, and then treated in several French hospitals. While recovering, the young paratrooper realized that his parachute could be the perfect wedding dress fabric, so he wrapped it up and sent it to Aida. The war ended, Jerry went home, and on June 8, 1946, the bride-to-be appeared wearing a unique and beautiful wedding dress made from Jerry’s Normandy parachute.

Aida and Jerry had a wonderful life and raised four lovely boys. Following the war, Jerry worked as a truck driver and wore his U.S. Army boots until they disintegrated. Aida recalled: “He insisted on wearing them every single day, as a tribute to his buddies who were killed in action”. Jerry died in 1980 and Aida treasured her wedding dress for 73 years. In June 2019, She decided to share her special wedding dress with the world, and it was put on display at the 82nd Airborne Division Museum at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Isn’t that awesome? I love stories like that. Now it’s time to move on to the funnies – this cracked me up (representative of this year’s pictures):

  1. I hadn’t heard about the parachute wedding dress. What a heart-warming story! The kid’s school picture and the super-hero squirrel landing really cracked me up! Have a good week!

  2. Stacy,

I’m so glad you shared the wedding story. That’s so wonderful. I loved reading it! The inked up fella passed out on the floor made me laugh. Wouldn’t that be so funny? Thanks for sharing these giggles today. Have a funtastic week! 😉

  3. Love the funnies, and the idea of so many cats in the zoom class.

Your skeleton next to the tree is way cool. The other tree might be too much and mess up the skeleton for other uses. All of you who decorate with such things impress me, anyway.

Hope you have a great week, and that your Dude is getting the help he needs at school now.
