Monday has arrived, and you know what that means, don’t you? Time for some music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s), and come dance with us, won’t you? Let’s get this party started!

Let’s start with a song that is nearly 10 years old, but this version from this group was freshly uploaded to YouTube just two weeks ago – the lyrics fit well with all that’s going on today, so I know you’ll enjoy it like I do.

Give a listen to Imagine Dragons with “Destination”:

Next up, is another new song from this favorite artist, the upbeat offering is a plucky love song to someone the artist dubs “Miss Tumbleweed,” who makes him want to join in on her “gypsy ways.”

Hey miss tumbleweed, I believe / two tumbleweeds is better than one / everybody needs a buddy when they’re on the run / Hey miss tumbleweed, let’s ride the breeze / town to town just kickin’ up dust / make a little trouble, might make a little love

The artist was quoted as saying:

“In October 2019, this title came to me. I liked it because I felt like life was flying by so fast, faster and faster all the time. But music has always been the place where it slows down and doesn’t even exist. I would never have imagined that, in 2020, this album title would take on a whole new meaning and yet somehow still feel so incredibly relevant.”

Just before his album is set to drop, the artist will take the reins as a first-time host of the Academy of Country Music Awards. Originally slated for mid-April, the show was postponed to September 16th due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The rescheduled event will now take place in Nashville, with performances happening at the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Bluebird Cafe.

Give a listen to Keith Urban with “Tumbleweed”:

Next up is another favorite artist who revives one of his hit songs that was featured on two of his previous albums, “18 ‘Til I Die” and “MTV Unplugged”. Here the artist is singing live to the original TV track onto his iPhone. Pretty cool if you ask me!

With a timeless voice, here’s Bryan Adams with “I Will Always Be Right There”:

Last, but certainly not least, this artist wrote this song during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. During that time, the vast majority of Americans were living in various degrees of quarantine and isolation. Fear and uncertainty dominated the zeitgeist. He felt it was his duty as a musician to record a song about it.

He started things off with an Instagram post on March 19 showing him doing dishes at JBJ Soul Kitchen, a New Jersey restaurant he owns. The caption of the post read, “When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can.” The implication was that he couldn’t perform live because of the lockdown so he helped out at his restaurant instead.

After that, he recorded himself playing the first verse and the chorus of this song. He then asked his fans to share their pandemic experiences on social media with the hashtag #DoWhatYouCan.

The song is full of images of life from the pandemic, with the chorus urging us to do the best we can for ourselves and for each other during difficult times.

When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can / This ain’t my prayer, it’s just a thought I’m wanting to send / Round here we bend but don’t break, down here we all understand / When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can

The artist first performed the finalized version of this song on April 22, 2020, for the Jersey4Jersey benefit special, which also featured Bruce Springsteen, Halsey, Tony Bennett, SZA, and Fountains of Wayne all performing from their homes. The band added their instrumental parts later, also from their homes.

The music video pays tribute to the resilience of New Yorkers as we see the artist performing the song in an empty Times Square during lockdown. He was quoted as saying:

“Shooting a video on nearly empty streets of Manhattan amid a global crisis really told the story of ‘Do What You Can’ from the place where I lived it. And I know those empty streets look similar to so many parts of America battling this pandemic. But the story of everyday heroes showing amazing courage was inspiring to see and the video, much like the song, has a great deal of hope in it too.”

Without further ado, I give you Bon Jovi with “Do What You Can”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday, I’ll see you on the dance floor, keeping that social distancing! Seriously though – hope you all are staying safe and healthy.

  1. When you have been married for 46 years to the love of your life, the words of Bryan Adams ring ever so true. It s quite possible that this will be my favorite song of the day. Thanks for sharing a beautiful lyric. Have a blessed day.

  2. I love Imagine Dragons. They are a great band. As for Keith, my son lives in Nashville and sees him driving by in his cool car, every now and then. I’m currently pissed at Bryan Adams because he got into an Internet fight with a friend of mine, and he was clearly a jerk! He has great music, but I don’t like him as a person.

Bon Jovi wrote a great song for the times. I pray people with use common sense this weekend and avoid spreader events; however, I hear that is already not the case! I also heard Bon Jovi sing, “I will use social distance until the vaccination is here,” but I heard something odd about that. A doctor reported that a 75% effectiveness for a shot would be awesome. That means that 1 in 4 people might still get the disease if exposed. However, only 60% of the population is planning to receive the shot. Here is the kicker, we can’t have heard immunity if only 60% of the population gets vaccinated. Therefore, I fear we will still be wearing masks and social distancing long after the vaccination is here. 😢

  3. Hmmmm Imagine Dragons? Nope never heard the song or the group… different I must say. Now Keith Urban is really climbing up my ladder for most favorite singer. Love this new tune & video (well, new to me) totally cool! The video is awesome & so is he! He’s really kickin’ ass! WOW! Whoa, Bryan Adams comin’ out with this one is fab! I haven’t heard from him in a long time, but I need to play that for hubby. It’s a cute little ditty for sure! Thanks for introducing it to me. Now Bon Jovi… wow, he is really starting to show his age isn’t he? Total Grey??? Dang Girl, is he getting old or are we? hmmmmm something to think about I’d say! Anyway HAPPY LABOR DAY TO YOU AND YOURS! We really go back a few years haven’t we? Gotta love ya my friend. I hope all is well for you and yours! HAPPY LABOR DAY! HOPE IT’S A GREAT DAY FOR YA! DON’T EAT TOO MUCH! hehehe~ We’re stayin’ home and barbecuing and enjoying each other’s company! Got all my phone calls already from the kids. Woo Hoo! Sending hugs out to all~! Have a great day! I wish you & yours good health, happiness & nothing, but the best!

  4. Stacy,

I remember hearing Imagine Dragons for the first time. It’s hard to believe how quickly the past decade went by. I guess the next will go by even faster. I enjoyed listening to your mewsic picks. Bon Jovi is my favorite! I read in your Tuesday post that your Labor Day was spent working long hours and your electricity went off, too. Bummer! I hope things go better the rest of the week. Have a boogietastic day, my friend!

  5. This was a great set. It started out good, then just kept building, until finally the Bon Jovi video – upbeat but it made me tear up because I am a native of New York City and I am writing this comment on September 11. That video was my favorite. We are seeing some amazing creativity in the music world (and other venues) during this time of social distancing and needing to connect…somehow.
