Second Tuesday of June! It doesn’t feel like June to me yet – how about you?

Kids are in the final days of school – the oldest nerd’s last day is this Friday, the youngest nerd’s last day is next Friday. Though technically youngest nerd will be done this Friday, since his school is having everyone drop off all school books, paper packets and computers this Friday – so even though the official ‘last day’ isn’t until the 19th, there won’t be any schoolwork to do next week.

I myself am quite ready to be done with this school year – my hubby said it best:

My child’s grade for the year will be based not on his abilities or competencies, but on our ability to juggle the full time jobs we still have while having to homeschool.

Especially since they switched to a simple ‘pass/fail’ system for these last couple of months of school. Little Dude is technically ‘special needs’, what with his ADHD, ODD, DMDD, RAD and sleep disturbances – we had just had a meeting for the IEP we’d been badgering the schools for since he was in Kindergarten, and there was finally a plan in place to help him with his learning disabilities when Covid struck and *poof!*  there went his extra help.

We had to switch him from most of the online learning to paper packets from the school – he wasn’t getting much school work done when left to his own devices on the computer, because the online schooling gives them options of ‘Let’s take a break! Click here to play this game!’ so his ‘breaks’ would overshadow his actual schooling. They’re more fun, of course! While there is some learning element to the ‘games’ on the site, he was spending too much time on those and wasn’t getting his actual assignments done. 🤦‍♀️

Speaking of distractions… We’re adding a new furbaby to the family next week:

Isn’t he a cutie? That’s him at 6 weeks old – based on his snout and paws, we may be in trouble size-wise! He’s a Labradoodle. We needed a brother for our Wheaten/Papillon rescue, Raymond Reddington, since his Sheltie brothers crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last year, and I’ve always wanted a Labradoodle (my best dog ever (Elvis) was either a Labradoodle or Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier – he was a rescue, but a breeder identified him as either one of those. He was such an awesome dog that lived a glorious 14 years – I still miss him. Finally found a puppy in our area (instead of multiple states away) that tugged my heartstrings).

So he’ll be ‘old enough’ and ready to come home with us next Monday. We’ve started asking Reddington where his brother is, to get him used to the idea he won’t be the lone doggy anymore. We’re planning to bring him with us when we pick up the puppy, so he has a chance to get acquainted during the car ride on the way home. That way, maybe he won’t be territorial when this new puppy invades his home and yard and infringes on his two-legger time…heh!  I’ll be sure to share the fun next week!

Today’s my Un-Birthday – the exact 6-month mark until my actual birthday. What’s funny is I always thought the ‘Un-Birthday’ was specifically  the 6 month date, but apparently, according to Alice in Wonderland, it’s any of the 364 days of the year that isn’t the day of your birth. Who knew?

Let’s move on to the funnies, shall we? This is hilarious (and true):

  1. Where to start! These are great, my Sweetie and i both laughed until we cried.

Hope all goes well with introducing the new pup, and a very merry unbirthday to you!

  2. Your cat videos cracked me up! I actually laughed out loud at the mailman. And folding the fitted sheet… isn’t that how it’s done? Our schools went to a pass/fail system when COVID hit too. It’s a shame little dude didn’t get the opportunity to see what would happen with accommodations in place Maybe next year? Thanks for hosting!

  3. The new puppy is so cute!

It’s such an odd year. My husband didn’t work at the beginning of COVID (he works at a Dental Lab), then as soon as classes were over for me (College Art Teacher) I was let go. It still seems surreal. I taught there, since 2002. They couldn’t recruit with high schools being closed down. There went my job. I don’t have my education degree, but I have my masters. It’s not easy trying to pick up something new.

  4. OMG I just discovered your blog and after this portion of funnies I feel like I need to check all older posts! I wish I found it at the beginning of quarantine, it would be so much easier for me to get through it LOL
Why memes and gifs with cats are so hilarious? 😀
By the way, your new puppy looks adorable!
Have a good week ahead 🙂
