Hope you all are doing well during this surreal time, staying safe and healthy! Are the days blurring together, yet? In case you forgot, it happens to be Monday! And since it is Monday, that means music! For the month of April, our Spotlight Dancer is our friend Binky and Granny from Angelswhisper2011! She has chosen the theme for this week, which is “‘Fool’ song titles or lyrics” Let’s get this fool party started! 😉

Let’s start with a song this artist wrote at the age of 16 when she was still in High School. This was featured on the CBS shows Clubhouse and Ghost Whisperer. In addition, the artist played a musician called Mia in 6 episodes of MTV’s One Tree Hill. She performed within the context of the teen drama a number of songs from her album, including this song.

The artist won first place in the 2006 USA Songwriting Contest in the Pop category for this song. She became the youngest artist so far to have won the award.

Here’s Kate Voegele with “Only Fooling Myself”:

Next up is a song that was this artist’s first American #1 hit, giving the 17-year-old the honor of becoming the youngest artist ever to write, perform, and produce a #1 single. The song captures the fantastical feelings of a teenage girl as she deals with heartbreak for the first time and wonders if she can ever love again. It’s very astute songwriting for a teenager, and much more complex than the artist’s first three singles, which were upbeat songs. Looking back at the song, in 2013 she was quoted as saying:

“I find that people have kept (it) with them. I think it’s because the lyrics are simple, but you can fill in the blanks with your adult experience. I know that I can as a singer now. When I was writing it, I was guessing what love would be like … and then also guessing what it would be like to lose love. Now that I’ve been through all that, I can sing the very simple lyrics and really fill it.”

The music video finds the artist expressing her heartache in various settings, including a cabaret, the city streets, and a restaurant where she dines alone. It earned airplay on both MTV and VH1.

Here’s the amazing Debbie Gibson with “Foolish Beat”:

Next up in the fool realm – Fool’s Gold is a name given to the mineral pyrite, or iron pyrite, which is often found in coal seams. Its brassy yellow color give the mineral a superficial resemblance to gold. This pensive ballad is about a manipulative girl, whom the guys can’t help falling in love with, even they know deep down she’s not genuine in her intentions.

Falling for your Fool’s Gold / And I knew that you turned it on for everyone you met / But I don’t regret falling for your Fool’s Gold

All five members of this group penned the song with regular collaborator Jamie Scott and American songwriter MoZella. It was thanks to Harry Styles that this song came to life. Jamie Scott recalled that after penning the tune with MoZella, he originally didn’t know what to do with it. He was quoted as saying:

“I was in the studio with Harry, kind of just recording vocals, and it happened so quick. It took on this amazing sound and meaning for me as a writer on this album.”

Without further ado, here’s One Direction with “Fool’s Gold”:

Last, but certainly not least, this favorite artist penned this song for the 2011 computer animated movie, Cars 2. The movie’s story line has race car Lightning McQueen and tow truck Mater competing overseas in the first World Grand Prix and this song represented a change for the Country singer-songwriter. He was quoted as saying:

“It’s me doing more of an Eric Clapton-type blues ballad about the saddest part in the film, when Mater realizes that since people think he’s playing the part of a fool, he is a fool. But Mater also realizes that’s just who he is, and that was inspiring to me.”

Here’s the inimitable Brad Paisley with “Nobody’s Fool”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday and see you on the dance floor! Please stay safe and healthy!

  1. Great fool songs. I hadn’t heard any of these, but I remember 16 year-old Debbie Gibson. It’s amazing to hear talent from such young artists! Thanks for rocking and stay safe. I didn’t even get dressed, today until after 6:00 . . . PM.

    1. Sometimes movie songs get lost in the shuffle of music suitable for air play. What a great choice to bring Brad Paisley and his guitar to the dance floor today. This might be my favorite tune of the day. Well played!

  2. HEY GIRL, HAPPY belated EASTER to you & yours! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods! Well, down to business let’s rock this place. Kate Voegele with “Only Fooling Myself” nope never heard it before, but it’s cute. Thanks for the introduction. I must say she sounds like somebody, but I cannot put my finger on it. Now the next one I can tell you who she looks like Miley Cyrus! Don’t you think so? She sings better though. She’s new to me too. Damn, have I been sleepin’ under a rock or what? hahaha! One Direction… different… kinda slow, but to each there own. Now here comes my guy. I’ve been likin’ him a lot lately. He’s got some great tunes. Awww I haven’t heard this one & I love it. So cute, and he does a helleva job with it! Great tunes girlfriend I love the way you wind it all up! HUGS and Stay healthy, Stay safe and STAY HOME! HUGS

  3. We loved Ghost Whisperer, Stacy, but we can’t remember this song, although it sounds familiar. It’s lovely. One direction’s fool is fantastic, they made a lot of songs that we like very much. Brad Paisley is definetely not a fool at all…MOL…Hope you had a wonderful Easter despite all the restrictions😺Clean Pawkisses for a Happy Tuesday and Thank you for the mewsic. Stay Safe Healthy and Yourselfie🙏🐾😽💞

  4. Stacy,

The days are long and fast at the same time while in ‘stay at home’ mode. In the beginning, I did blur the days. I couldn’t figure out why we had to get up when the alarm clock went off because in my sleepy morning mind I knew DH would be home all day and then at the same moment clarity would hit that he’s working from home. Very strange! Mewsic is a great relief during these days of monotony. Your song picks are new-to-me, except for Debbie Gibson’s song and that one was introduced to me in recent years. I’m still not sure why she missed my radar but she rose to fame came in the 90s and in my defense I think it had to do with M.B.S (Mommy Brain Syndrome). Thanks for the dance, darlin’! Stay well. Sending love, hugs, & prayers your way!!

  5. Another episode of “I don’t know any of these songs”. I enjoyed Debbie Gibson and Brad Paisley – now I might just have to see Cars 2. I somehow rarely get to see any of these animated movies, for some reason.
