Raise Your Glass of Mai Tais making Memories on New Year’s Day!

The year is coming to an end! I’m really looking forward to what 2020 has in store, that’s for sure – how about you?

Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! For the whole month of December our honorary co-host has been… “Santa Claus”, with the whole month dedicated to Christmas tunes or Christmas related. Now that Christmas is over, and the New Year is almost upon us, I decided to shift to New Year type songs instead. Let’s get this party started!

Let’s start with an anthemic song that was the first single from this American pop-rock singer-songwriter’s greatest hits collection. It was one of two brand new tracks on the compilation back in 2010. The artist explained that the song is a for those who felt left out from the popular crowd:

“I had been on the road for two years and I hadn’t written anything and I wanted to write a song about underdogs. Instead of going and becoming a cover girl and endorsement girl and popular girl and having #1s, I kind of just hit the road and pounded the pavement – and became a touring artist. You don’t have to be popular when you’re a touring artist, you just have to be good, and this is just a celebration and a thank you.”

The video is the dance party scene in 2011’s New Year’s Eve move – Zac Ephron and Michelle Pfeifer sure steal the scene!

Next up is a brand new song that actually debuted on Princess Nagger’s birthday (November 15th). I thought it a perfect one to start the new year off with! The Hawaii-inspired tune has a relaxed melody that really feels like chillin’ on the beach:

I’ll be sippin’ Mai-Tais / Looking back at my life / Remembering the highlights / Thinking how the time flies / I’ll be sippin’ red wine / Looking back on my life / Remembering the stage fright / The butterflies at night

The band debuted the new tune with a special world premiere performance alongside in a recent episode of Magnum P.I., and as a bonus the front man guest starred as himself on the episode. The band was quoted as saying:

“Now you can have a cocktail on a beach somewhere no matter what time of year it is. We had nothing but good vibes while making this one together with Skylar. We hope you enjoy it!”

Next up is a song I’ve shared before, but it’s worth sharing again to ring in the new year – a sparse, reflective track in which the lead singer looks back on the good times with a loved one while enjoying some drinks with friends. The effects of the alcohol and camaraderie with his pals cause his emotions to bubble up as he remembers their times together. He was quoted as saying:

“This song is for anyone who has ever experienced loss. In other words, this song is for all of us.”

“No matter what happens in the world around you, think about those people you love and share some good . We wrote this song to bring people together. It’s an important message for right now.”

Last, but definitely not least, this is one of my from this artist, an acoustic ballad that’s perfect for wrapping up this year. The song is set during the aftermath of a New Year’s Eve Party, she celebrates the lover who’s there to help with the clean up when the party ends.

Don’t read the last page / But I stay when you’re lost, and I’m scared / And you’re turning away / I want your midnights / But I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day

The artist was quoted as saying:

“We threw a big New Year’s Eve party in London this year, and I was thinking about how everybody talks and thinks about who you kiss at midnight. Like it’s this big romantic idea of like, ‘Who are you gonna kiss at midnight, like ring in the New Year.’ And I think that is very romantic. But I think there’s something even more romantic about who’s gonna deal with you on New Year’s Day. Who’s willing to give you Advil and clean up the house. I think that states more of a permanence. So I was thinking about that, and I wrote this song called ‘New Year’s Day.'”

The artist debuted the song a day before the album’s release, during a special performance shot at her Rhode Island home, that aired during the November 9, 2017 episode of Scandal. The pre-recorded footage shows her singing the ballad in a candle-lit living room and surrounded by fans.

Without further ado – here’s  with “New Year’s Day”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor, and have a Happy and Safe New Year!

About StacyUncorked

After 20+ years in the Corporate World and years of infertility, Stacy was surprised when Princess Nagger made her miraculous appearance - deciding to forgo the career and stay home was a no-brainer. As if her hands weren't full enough, 8 years later she and her husband added Little Dude through adoption, adding a whole new dimension (of crazy) to their family and even more sleepless nights. When she’s not refereeing kids, dogs and cats, she loves to write, hence the reason she decided to start her little blog, and because she never got a baby book to mark milestones, this was the next best thing. She also enjoys doing reviews and giveaways for products she or her family would willingly use and can stand behind. She loves to cook and try new techniques to turn ordinary into extraordinary. Crafty by nature, she takes on a lot of unique projects and enjoy seeing the end result. Her favorite, of course, is making her award winning wine out of fruits and grapes. Experiments with water currently underway.

  1. Stacy,

I hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas. I can’t believe December is almost gone. I knew it would vanish before I get my first breath of air. Your song picks are a purrfect way to round out the holiday season.

I look forward to more coming days of sharing and building our friendship. Here’s to 2020 being a year filled with good health, loads of happiness, and dreams coming true, my friend!

  2. I think everyone has shifted into New Year’s mode by now. Kind of sad that Christmas is over, and New Year’s Eve is the end of a year, for better or worse, but there are always new beginnings, right? Happy New Year!

  3. Happy New Year! I enjoyed the Taylor Swift video – the intimate setting in her home with a handful of fans, her long fingers playing that piano – and yes, just her, the fans and her piano. If only more artists did that! Also enjoyed Maroon 5. Hope you are having (so far) a Happy New Year.
