Is everyone ready for Christmas? Can you believe it’s next week?! Because I’ve been running behind, I decided to just use our fake tree again this year instead of getting a real one (definitely going with a real tree next year). So much for ‘easy’, I finally got our tree up last weekend, but couldn’t decorate it, because more than 50-percent of the lights were out when I plugged it in.

Instead of trying to figure out which bulbs needed replacing, I figured it was easier just to string more lights. Of course finding the time to do that was problematic, so we had a half lit tree all week long…heh! Finally had a chance to add more lights yesterday, so we could finally decorate it!

Seems every year I get further and further behind getting ready for Christmas – I think I need to adopt the retailers mindset and start planning Christmas in the middle of the summer…heh!

Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! For the whole month of December our honorary co-host shall be… “Santa Claus” and the whole month of December shall be Christmas tunes or Christmas related! Let’s get this party started!

Let’s start with a group I stumbled upon when I was looking for ‘fresh’ Christmas tunes. These guys are hilarious! I haven’t been able to find much about them, but I know you’ll enjoy their performance as much as I did.

For your supreme entertainment, here’s the United States Navy Band with “12 Days of Christmas”:

Next up is a cheeky, retro-Cuban number that takes the form of a phone call between the two SNL veterans, Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph. Ana is sharing some big news: She flew to Havana to buy a secret Santa gift, but after a couple glasses of rum, an orange Fanta, and a slip on a banana, her holiday plans have changed. It’s just one of the many quirky highlights from Ana’s jazzy, brilliantly titled new holiday album, Sugar & Booze.

Get ready to be entertained, here’s the very funny Ana Gasteyer featuring Maya Rudolph with “Secret Santa”:

Next up, this artist is giving his wife the Christmas gift she’s been asking for for years… Music. He was quoted as saying:

“Christmas is hands-down my favorite time of year. We have so many Christmas traditions in our family that include a lot of festive music, but I’ve never recorded anything myself.

[My wife] has wanted me to make some Christmas music for a long time, so this year felt like the right time to finally take a stab at writing something and to put my own twist on one of the all-time classics.”

Here’s Thomas Rhett with “Christmas In The Country”:

Last, but certainly not least, this artist performed her fair share of Christmas classics during her six seasons on Glee, but this year, she’s made an entire album packed with holiday standards and cute duets. This one is an original number, a tribute to the starlet’s first home.

She sings about all the iconic NYC scenes — from Broadway to Macy’s to a snowy Central Park — with wide-eyed wonderment. Rachel Berry would totally approve.

View New York through her eyes, here’s Lea Michele with “Christmas in New York”:

That’s a wrap for this week – see you on the dance floor!

Now on to the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:   Photobucket

  2. Stacy,

Christmas comes on faster and faster with each passing year. Just keep your tree up 365 days and that way you’ll be ready next year before anyone else. lol That’s really tempting, isn’t it? The US Naval Band quartet are four silly guys with fabulous voices – what a wonderful introduction! ‘Secret Santa’ is another newbie to me. I knew Maya Rudolph had some mewsic talent with her late mother being Minnie Riperton (Loving You). Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, darlin’! Have a blessed Christmas season. xx

  3. I enjoyed thse, particularly the one by Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph (whose mother was Minnie Riperton, did you know that?). Saturday Night Live was still funny when they were in the cast…

  4. Those Navy Sideboys were hysterical. and I do say, that song does sound nice done to the tune of “Carol of the Bells”. The Secret Santa song is going to be a new favorite of mine. Growing up in New York City, though, that outfit in “Christmas in New York” made me feel just a little too cold – brrrr!
