Another weekend has flown by super fast – why must they all go so quickly? I guess what they say is true – time flies when you’re having fun, eh?

Being that it’s Monday, Monday means music! For the month of April, our Spotlight Dancer is our very own bloggy friend, Kim From The ReInVintaged Life! She has chosen the theme for this week, which is “‘Songs where a particular instrument has moved you’ – whether it’s a favorite vocal sound, bass line, drumming/beats, piano, guitar solo, …” I’ve chosen some great ones that have all of the above, so let’s get this party started!

Let’s start with a song I love that was this band’s first single from December 2011, and it grabbed my attention when it was used in the season finale of a show I loved, the CW’s Hart of Dixie. Having been used in that show, it of course started a national buzz on social media. Anytime it comes on the radio now, it’s a must listen for me.

Give a listen to The Lumineers with “Ho Hey”:

Next up is definitely a great one for this week’s theme – this playful track about two friends deciding to start a band is a duet with two of my favorite artists. The two of them have been friends since before either of them had record deals. One was quoted as saying:

“When I called him I said I had a couple ideas for what we could do. One of them was just go write a real fast guitar instrumental and try to blow people’s minds. The other was this song about starting a band that was pitched for my last record that I didn’t cut. I told him the words to [this song] and sent it to him. He cracked up when he heard it because we’ve both been through this so much in our lives, just our attempts to be cool as guitar players you know, and wanting to fit in.”

“I couldn’t finally get the chance to play with [the other artist] and do just some obscure artsy thing that no one was going to appreciate. I was like, ‘Let’s do something really cool that people are going to talk about and want to hear.’ So we went in and had fun and he worked his butt off on that song. He spent all day doing harmony parts with his guitar and came up with lines I never would have had on that chorus.”

Get ready to be impressed with some amazing guitar solos, here’s Brad Paisley and Keith Urban with “Start A Band”:

Next up is an anthemic tune that is a collaboration between a favorite duo and British band. This dance floor-ready song was premiered with a live performance by both groups at the 2017 BRITS Awards on February 22, 2017. This is one of those songs that gives me goosebumps when I listen to it.

The song is about a relationship that doesn’t need to be superhumanly perfect:

I’m not looking for somebody / With some superhuman gifts / Some superhero / Some fairytale bliss / Just something I can turn to / Somebody I can kiss

The song’s lyric video set a new mark on YouTube for single-day views. The clip was streamed more than 9 million times in its first 24 hours of availability, overtaking the previous record held by Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” lyric video, which was played 8.2 million times in its first day.

Get ready for those goosebumps, here’s The Chainsmokers and Coldplay with “Something Just Like This”:

Next up is one of the very first songs I ever heard from this four-piece rock band that turned me into a big fan. This song is about self-empowerment and staying true to your roots. The frontman wrote the inspirational anthem in his kitchen as he dealt with a bout of depression. He was quoted as saying:

“I was dropping out of college, making some changes, and it wasn’t the peak of my life. I was just trying to write a song for myself. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety, and the song spurred from that. Whoever connects to it, I’m happy.”

Here’s Imagine Dragons with “It’s Time”:

Last, but certainly not least, is a brand new song from this favorite artist. She has never been good at faking it, but on this song, the bouncy dance pop single she released on Thursday morning (April 11), the singer tries to just act like things are fine, even if they are totally not.

So can we pretend that I’m 22 today / Dancin’ on the tables with you, oh yeah / Can we pretend that we all end up okay / I just want to forget with you

The song reminisces about a time before social media and 24-hour news feeds, when we didn’t have anywhere to post pics of said table dancing and you could look forward to running over to someone’s house to tell them what you’re thinking before they could read it on Twitter.

Without further ado, here’s the inimitable P!nk with “Can We Pretend”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

  2. Great music over here, Stacy. Grandpaw is a Heartof Dixie lover and we all like Country here. Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are just amazing! Granny is a great fan of Coldplay from the beginning, so Thank you for the music. We enjoyed them all <3 Pawkisses for a wonderful day🐾😽💞

  3. These were all fun songs, and I enjoyed the lyrics to the Brad Paisley and Keith Urban song (yeah, if only it was that easy). If I had to pick…surprised me a little, but I would choose the Chainsmokers and ColdPlay collaboration. One of my cousins is a huge Pink fan, and has been to several of her concerts in New York City.
