Well whaddayaknow – today is the first day of school! How on earth did the summer fly by so fast?! So today (Tuesday) Little Dude starts 5th grade. And of course since I’m writing this to go live the night before (Monday night, in case you need to be reminded what time it is…heh!)

I don’t have his first day of school photo yet, so here’s last year’s picture so you can have a comparison next week:

And yes, of course he’s shot up in height over the summer, so I’ll be sure to repost this picture along with the one I’ll be taking in the morning before he heads off to his final year at the Elementary school.

Last year for Elementary! And Princess Nagger is in high school! Where is that darn pause button?! Who’s hiding it?!

Princess Nagger is continuing her education online again this year – technically home school, but there are actual teachers that have online classes she attends and I don’t have to be the ‘bad guy’ with giving her assignments and tests and all that fun stuff. I just have to be the nag to make sure she completes assignments given, and shows up to her online classes on time.

I think next year she has the option to take some college courses along with her high school classes to get some of the ‘basic’ classes out of the way before she graduates and moves on to a collegiate institute. She still has the desire to become a Paleontologist (a dream she’s had since she was 4!) so plans will be made sooner rather than later.

OK, later. I don’t want to think about her going to college just yet. She still has 3 years, and she’s still my baby!!

The influx of spam messages and phone calls seems to have increased exponentially lately – this email was received by someone claiming to be from the “United (States) Parcel Service (UPS)”. Apparently they have an “ATM Card parcel” in their “custody” and wouldn’t you know it, they need a whole lot of information in order to deliver said package to me (you can click on the image to enlarge it):

The requested information (in case you don’t want to click on the image to read it) asks for name, address, country, next of kin, phone number, age, nationality, and the pièce de résistance – they ask you to attach a copy of your ID!

The sad part is that so many people fall for that trap and end up losing everything. And because there are so many gullible people out there, the losers trying to steal people’s identities will continue to do so.

I also love the spammy robot calls that come through, too – if I don’t recognize the phone number calling me, I don’t pick up. Usually the robot will hang up on the voicemail, but sometimes I’ll get the back-end of the message, like this one:

“…you will be taken under custody by the local police as there are four serious allegations pressed on your name at this moment. We would request you to get back to us so that we can discuss about this case before taking any legal action against you. The number to reach us is 502-205-5975. I repeat, 502-205-5975. Thank you.”

Again, people totally fall for those bogus calls. Our local police even posted on our local Facebook page about not returning those calls, and definitely not giving out information. I always tell people that my prefered method of communication is by email – that way I have everything in writing. Better to be safe than sorry!

Let’s move right on into the funnies, shall we?

Speaking of Princess Nagger’s dream of becoming a Paleontologist, I saw this posted on Facebook and thought it was perfect:

I thought this was clever and punny:

And finally, I’m going to leave this right here for you:

That’s a wrap for this week – you know the drill, link up and join in the fun, everyone is welcome, random or not. 1. OMG, the grammar ones get me every time! I know I’m not supposed to call people out on it (at least, a lot of my FB “friends” don’t like it…but I can’t stand it. Probably like how somebody good in math can’t stand how I can’t math right. But I digress. I guess those folks just think outside the para-diggem.

I can’t believe your daughter is in high school already – time does fly by fast! Can’t wait to see the pic of Little Dude to compare to last year. My boys grew like weeds from grades 4-10.

  2. I wish your kids all the best this school year! Wow, Princess Nagger is growing up. Seems she was so young when I started reading your blog.
I work for 9-1-1 and get calls from people all the time wanting reassurance about the frauds and scams. Unfortunately, some people have already fallen for them and have been bilked out of a bunch of money. Very sad.

  3. I’ve gotten the call about being taken into custody as well. I apparently have four warrants out there. LOL. These people are crazy. The bad thing is that because I get so many, I don’t answer my phone for real calls anymore.

  4. Stacy,

Love the random funnies! I get my share of spambots informing me that I’ll be taken into custody if I ignore the phone call…blah-blah-blah every little bit and as well I get emails saying a small fortune has been left to me but in order to claim it I have to give out sensitive info. Sorry, not gonna buy into these tricks! Sadly as you pointed out there are plenty of gullible folks out there still even with all the warnings. I’m not even sure how that’s possible but it’s true.

Kids grow up purrty darn fast. There’s no stopping it, either. Here’s to a fun, successful school year to your kiddos. BTW, I noticed on FB, Marie’s daughter posted that she was taken back to the hospital yesterday because of her pain. My heart is heavy for her. 🙁

Have a fun and randomtastic week!

  5. Those scammers make me so mad! One of my dear, elderly clients was scammed out of some money by one of those “this is your grandson, I need money to get out of jail” phone calls a couple of years ago. Heartbreaking and enraging.

Those phrases get on my nerves, too.

A paleontologist is a great goal, i know your girl can make it.

Good luck with the school year!

  6. Aww, how nice that your kiddos are growing up. Nice pic of your son. This is the first year I don’t have both kids in a school. My daughter just graduated college in June.

Thanks for the funnies. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
