How can we possibly be on the last day of July already?? Wasn’t it just June? Didn’t school just let out? Guess I better not mention to the kids they only have a month of summer left – there might be a mutiny on my hands!

I’m ready for the weather to get back to ‘normal’ for us here in the Pacific Northwest – this heat isn’t for the faint of heart! Good thing I’m not faint of heart… 😉 But man, making dinner in a hot kitchen drenched in sweat makes me wish there were more take-out places in our area. Thankfully today is the last day of the extra heat, tomorrow we’ll be back to ‘normal’ temperatures in the 70’s. I’m cool with the 70’s. Literally and figuratively speaking.

Today (the 31st) is my mom’s birthday, so I’m joining her, her sister and a couple of her close friends for lunch today. We’re meeting at a place I’ve never been to an hour-and-a-half north of me, but I’m looking forward to it, because it sounds like a unique place. It’s not just a restaurant, it’s an old train station that was renovated into little shops and restaurants – so I’m sure I’ll have some fun stories to tell next week.

The fires in California are so sad – so many homes and lives lost, and historical places gone. From what I read the big fire that whipped into a frenzy towards Redding was started by a vehicle that malfunctioned. All it takes is one spark – and with the dry weather everyone seems to be having here on the West Coast, Mother Nature has been a force to be reckoned with. Someone posted this poignant image on Facebook the other day:

Fire scares me – it’s so unrelenting and fierce. Keeping everyone in that area in my thoughts and prayers for sure.

We need some levity – let’s move right on into the funnies, shall we? Speaking of heat, someone posted this and it totally cracked me up:

Get it?

Someone was clever with this big cat statue:

This is pretty freaky – this is a real Hammerhead Bat!

Seriously bigger than one of my dogs! Crazy! Glad they’re in Africa and not here – I wonder what a Hammerhead Bat eats?

This cracked me up:

Replace Sprite with 7-Up and that’s pretty much my childhood when I was sick. Which is why I don’t like chicken noodle soup and 7-Up as an adult – reminds me of having the flu. Crazy, right?

This is funny:

This also cracked me up:

I thought this was punny:

As was this:

And finally, I’m going to leave this right here for you (I absolutely do this):

That’s a wrap for this week – you know the drill, link up and join in the fun, everyone is welcome, random or not. And that means even if you don’t have a specific Random Tuesday Thoughts Rebel post posted, you can still link up, I’m not picky. You don’t even have to add the badge, just link up so I can come harass you on your blog. I promise to play nice.

  1. Those fires are so sad, i’ve been praying for everyone in that area.

Yes, it’s almost that hot in Texas! In south Louisiana, we are hot, but not more so than usual, and it will linger another couple of months. It’s great that you will get a break in your temperatures, and your kids have another month before school starts. The powers-that-be here have the kids going back on August 9, when we are still in the midst of the blazing summer heat.

Thanks for the great funnies, and the link up!

  2. Those fires are just to sad… why do people live in California is beyond me. There is always fires there. It’s just like California is goin’ under anyway!!! Anyway… I was just stopping by when I realized I was on Tuesdays Post & I was looking for Monday’s. Yeah, I cannot sit that long so I’m really behind. I sit for about 15 to 20 minutes & that’s about my limit before I feel like someone is hitting me in the back with a sledge hammer. Personally I cannot wait for my surgery, but with this guy being head of the neuro-surgery department makes me feel a lot easier. I’ve been praying everyday that once this is over I can dance again. Silly I know, but dancing & no pain… WOW THAT WOULD BE FAN-FREAKIN’-TASTIC for sure…..

  3. Happy Birthday to your mom. It is also my son’s birthday today. The fires here are sad. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

  4. Growing up we got the vicks treatment for colds, but 7up and saltines were for stomach flu. To this day, they are an automatic go to when my stomach is feeling off.

  5. So much to talk about today! The fires – awful. Fire scares me, too! I saw the picture of that hammerhead bat. I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I hope I never do again. It’s so gross! The popcorn – that is Texas. 100 degrees yesterday where I live. 70’s would be welcome! Heck, 80’s would be! The flu… yep! That’s my childhood. And I won’t eat chicken noodle soup anymore, either. Ohio, Scandinavia, and Kah-nife! All that cracks me up!
