The first official week of summer (with school out) is now in the bag! Busy week it was, my sister and her hubby and freshly minted college grad son were here for a visit from Kansas – lots of fun was had by all! More on all the fun tomorrow.

Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! This week is a freebie week – grab your favorite tune(s) and dance along with us, won’t you?

Let’s start with the lead single from this American singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album, his first album in 4 years. I wasn’t able to find much on the song itself, just that he premiered it on June 14, 2018. You’re gonna love how catchy it is, though!

Here’s Jason Mraz with “Unlonely”:

Next up is a song from the soundtrack of Netflix original, “13 Reasons Why”. I have both seasons in my queue, but haven’t brought myself to watch it yet. The music is outstanding, especially this uplifting tune addressing and reflecting on their feelings of loneliness and disheartenment after people in their life left them.

Feelin’ like maybe I’m unappreciated / Like my presence in your life has been alleviated / I feel like everything I’ve done before is different now / But I can see clearer than ever from a distance now

Give a listen to OneRepublic with “Start Again”:

Next up is a song that’s an ode to friend zoning, that finds this British singer-songwriter angry with her male pal for trying to move their friendship up to the next level.

Haven’t I made it obvious? (Have I not made it obvious?) / Haven’t I made it clear? (I made it very clear) / Want me to spell it out for you? (yeah) / F-R-I-EN-D-S (I said F-R-I-EN-D-S)

The Essex singer has to spell it out for the dude who just doesn’t get it. The song was inspired by an actual male pal of the artist’s who wanted to move their friendship up to the next level. She was quoted as saying:

“The idea came from a boy that I know that’s my friend and he kind of he wanted to be more than my friend and I was like ‘look brother how many times to I have to tell you we’re just friends.'”

Have some fun with Marshmello & Anne-Marie with “FRIENDS”:

Last, but certainly not least, is an upbeat love song in which this front man shows his appreciation for his girl after overcoming a difficult time in their relationship.

Cause girls like you run ’round with guys like me / ‘Til sun down when I come through / I need a girl like you, yeah yeah / Girls like you love fun, and yeah, me too

The newly released video is pretty much a who’s who of powerful and iconic women. From activists and writers to incredible Olympians and actresses, this music video is a tour de force. The band’s frontman performs on a fairly empty stage, but each time the camera circles around him, a new woman appears behind him. Here’s the full list of wonder women in this all-star cameo:

Camila Cabello (Singer), Gal Gadot (Actress, literal Wonder Woman), Tiffany Haddish (Comedian and actress), Aly Raisman (Olympic gymnast), Sarah Silverman (Comedian), Millie Bobby Brown (Actress), Amani Al-Khatahtbeh (Tech entrepreneur), Phoebe Robinson (Comedian and actress), Lilly Singh (Comedian, YouTube star), Ellen DeGeneres (TV host and personality), Rita Ora (Singer), Trace Lysette (Actress), Beanie Feldstein (Actress), Jackie Fielder (Activist), Danica Patrick (Racecar driver), Ilhan Omar (Politician), Elizabeth Banks (Actress), Ashley Graham (Model), Mary J. Blige (Singer), Jennifer Lopez (Singer and actress), Chloe Kim (Olympic gold medalist), Alex Morgan (Soccer player), Angy Rivera (Activist), Franchesca Ramsey (Comedian, activist, actress).

And of course Cardi B who kills her part by spitting cheeky verses like: “I don’t really want a white horse and a carriage/ I’m thinking more of a white Porsche and karats.”

The clip closes with two final guests: Behati Prinsloo, model and Adam Levine’s wife , and their 20-month-old daughter Dusty Rose.

Without further ado, here’s Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B with “Girls Like You”:

  1. Hi Stacy,
Once again you’ve wow’d me with new-to-me songs. I really liked each of these … and the videos were fabulous too. The first one reminded me of a Jacqui Lawson ecard and it was cool to watch that heart come together. The song was very poppy. I’ve never heard of the artist Jason Mraz (cool name).
I really like One Republic’s “Start Again” — both the song and the video. Loved the black & white treatment in the video. Well done!
Re: “Friends”: I definitely like the song but was more captivated by the Marshmello character. I looked him up on Wikipedia and to me he’s quite fascinating, his story and how he kept his identity veiled for so long. Very creative marketing there…
Finally, Adam Levine/Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” was super. Thanks for including the names of all the women that appeared in the video. I recognized some but not the majority. Great song, sweet ending too. Cardi B’s contribution is fun as well.

Great way to start my week (although it’s Sunday night in my eyes, just a little past midnight here, and I haven’t yet gone to bed so I guess I’ll be starting my week when I wake up)…

    Have a good one,

    Michele at Angels Bark

  2. Stacy,

Thanks for the introduction to all of these songs. I can’t believe this is the first to hear any of these but it’s true. Adam Levine is a nice guy but generally speaking, there aren’t too many of his songs I’m nuts over. He’s really fun on The Voice. I wondered what happened to Jason Mraz, so glad to see he has a new album out. One Republic “Start Again” put my body in motion. I haven’t heard of Anne Marie. She reminds me of another female artist who’s popular right now but I can’t recall her name. I thought her mewsic video was a lot of fun and the inspiration behind her song. It’s not uncommon for guy friends to develop a crush on you or the other way around. Have a pAwesome week and enjoy the summer with your kiddies!

  3. Jason Mraz – the song was well done and catchy, and the video also reminded me of the Jacqui Lawson cards – I wonder if she had anything to do with this production. OneRepublic’s video made me wonder where it was filmed (abandoned factories like that not too far from where I live) and it fit the song perfectly. And, the Maroon 5 song was wonderful to watch with the women, some wearing their philosophies on T-Shirts – glad you gave me the “cheat sheet” because I didn’t recognize the majority of them by sight. What a powerful lineup. I didn’t know any of these songs – but I do now.

  4. HI GIRLFRIEND, How’s tricks? Got some cool tunes here mama! I loved that tune Marshmello & Anne-Marie in “FRIENDS”! Really cool tune & video… thanks for the introduction & of course I loves Adam Levine. I’m so hooked on “The Voice” its not funny! ~hehehe~ Well, today I did nothing, but clean up outside with pulling weeds EVERYWHERE!!! I even swept out the garage, but I have a feeling I’m going to pay for it later. OUCH!!! So my friend you have rocked the house yet once again! GREAT TUNES! hugs
