This is it, people! This is the last full week of school for my 4th grader! My 9th grader is in the Virtual Academy, so she has another week beyond this week, but it doesn’t really count, because she ‘goes to school’ at home…heh! Guess I better get busy making summer plans, no?

Meanwhile it’s Monday, and Monday means music! This new month brings us a new honorary conductor – welcome Alana of Ramblin’ with AM for the month of June! Her theme choice for this week kicks of her co-conductor status with “”Crossover” Songs done by a group/singer known primarily for one type of music, but in another type. Example: country singer has a rock hit, or vice-versa.” Sounds like fun! Why don’t you grab your favorite tune(s) and dance along?

Let’s start off with a group that it’s probably more accurate to say that they were forced over to the pop charts than leaving country on their own accord, but they were well-received nonetheless. After being shunned by country fans and radio stations across the country, this trio took a few years to reflect and write before releasing this particular song, a multi-platinum smash that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts.

Give a listen to the Dixie Chicks with “The Long Way Around”:

This next artist may have actually written the book on country-pop crossovers. With producer and ex-husband, this artist recorded some of the best-selling records of all time, in any genre. After toiling away at the top of the country charts, she launched into international superstardom with this song, a love ballad that helped her sophomore effort sell more than 12 million copies.

After staying out of the spotlight for close to a decade, this artist took an exclusive residency at Caesar’s Palace, and released a new album in 2017 – 15 years after her last album in 2002.

Here’s the gorgeous and talented Shania Twain with “You’re Still the One”:

Next up is this artist’s second pop smash from 2009, after having been a country darling for a number of years. That song lived a double life: The original version targeted a country audience with acoustic instrumentation, while the mix for mainstream pop listeners accentuated electric guitars.

This song followed – it was an even bigger hit, and the guitars on its pop version were suitably gargantuan as well. A sly balancing act, but you had to wonder how long this artist could switch-hit like this at that time, without choosing a team.

Here’s the inimitable Taylor Swift with “You Belong With Me”:

Last, but not least, while this song may have landed on the main artist’s pop album, when you get down to it, it is a textbook done-me-wrong song. One of the country duo said that the whole experience, from start to finish, was all good. He was quoted as saying:

“It was amazing working with Bebe on ’Meant To Be,’ you know from the first night writing it together to getting to watch it come to life in the studio and kinda dreaming it up together.”

Without further ado, here’s Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line with “Meant to Be”:

That’s a wrap for this week, have a great Monday – see you on the dance floor!

  1. Stacy,

Incredible crossover artist selections, my friend. I think Shania Twain is my favorite of your choices. She is not only a beautiful woman but her voice is pure gold. She has such a sexy quality about her tone. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me this morning. Have a funtastic week, dearie!

  2. I had Shania on my list today as well. And I had seriously considered using this same song. I wasn’t familiar with the last artist, but it was fun learning about her.

  3. A good set here! I especially thought the Taylor Swift video was cute. I like how she was in the school band and she played the clarinet. Seems girls are always stuck with the clarinet…

  4. So, you’re the last one and I made to everyone today… we got home from our trip late this afternoon and then I found my Post didn’t do just that… it NEVER post. 🙁 I put the time and date & everything and it didn’t work. I have so got to figure that out once & for all. Great job on the theme girlfriend! Didn’t see the Dixie Chicks out there til’ I came here. I didn’t know that… great job!!! New it about Shania and lots of us had good ol’ Taylor Swift … and you really did your homework on everyone else. I’m bushed… time to hit the hay as they say………… big hugs! YOU DEFINITELY ROCKED THE HOUSE ONCE AGAIN my friend! hugs

  5. Hi Stacy,
Great set here today. I totally forgot about the Dixie Chicks! I like them. I don’t know a whole lot about them but I’ve always enjoyed their music when I heard it. Thanks for bringing them back to the front of my mind…

Another one I don’t know much about is Shania Twain. I saw a few folks featuring her so I’m sure I’ll be exploring her music more now.

And I adore Taylor Swift! I have a lot of respect for her talent and the way she has always handled her business and her fame. Super impressive. Great song, that one.

I never heard of Bebe Rexha but for sure I know Florida Georgia Line. That was a great pairing and a good song. Thanks for turning me onto it.

    Have a great week,

    Michele at Angels Bark

  6. I think Shania Twain did a great job on her song. The Dixie Chicks – to me, that song still had many country overtones to it – not a bad thing but it really is a shame what happened to them in the country world – I think their voices and style says that is where they truly belong. Beebe Rexha is new to me – I wish my weekend could be as laid back as riding in the back of a pickup. And Taylor Swift – what can you say but, what a talent!
