Well, what do you know? It’s the last Monday of January! Luckily there’s still plenty of time left this year, since it’s only the beginning. Hopefully we won’t fast-forward through the next 11 months and wonder why it went by so quickly.

It is Monday, and Monday means music! This week our Spotlight Dancer is Joyce from Catch My Words, who has asked if we could all say Happy Birthday to her little girl Erica who is turning 25 yrs. old today! Naturally, her chosen theme is presenting songs about birthdays or pertaining to kids growing up and being young and beautiful, just like her daughter! Let’s get to it, shall we?

Let’s start off with an emotional duet between this artist and her father that describes a child’s transition to adulthood. I think it fits this theme perfectly, don’t you?

Give a listen to Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus with “Butterfly Fly Away”:

Next up is an upbeat jam that finds this artist promising to give some lucky person the best birthday ever. The song’s music video features the artist playing five characters; “The World’s Worst Birthday Party Entertainers.” They are Goldie The Dancer, Jewish MC Yosef Shulem, Kriss The Crown, Princess Mandee and Ace the Animal Trainer. The prank-a-thon clip shows the artist crashing various real life birthday parties in disguise and ruining them.

The artist said she had to con party planners into thinking they were taking part in a reality TV show for the video. She explained,

“We had to keep this super top secret. Of course, I had to go completely undercover, so it was skewed as a reality show called Birthday Blowout. So people signed up their birthday parties for this crazy reality show where anything could go, and anything did go…! The whole thing was staged.”

Here’s the crazy but talented Katy Perry with “Birthday”:

Next up is a song that encourages us to cherish the moments of our life. It’s a powerful song, and this artist has a powerful voice, but he sings this song with a tone of he’s been there, and he’s sincere.

This song gets to me every time I hear it.

Without further ado, here’s Trace Adkins with “You’re Gonna Miss This”:

Last, but definitely not least, is a funk-filled jam that was the debut single from this band. It’s a party anthem for every occasion – so today it’s all about Erica’s birthday.

Get ready to dance – here’s DNCE with “Cake By The Ocean”:

That’s a wrap for this week – Happy Birthday, Erica!

Have a great Monday, y’all – see you on the dance floor!

  1. Thanks for Erica’s birthday shoutout. She used to watch the show with Miley and her dad when she was younger, so that fits!

  2. Stacy,

Excellent songs! Miley looked so cute and sweet when she was younger. “Cake By the Ocean” always gets me to my feet. Fabulous dance mewsic for the birthday girl. Thanks for putting the groove in my move. 😉

  3. Definitely some great tunes here girlfriend & great ideas for our birthday girl to listen to on her B-Day! Katy Perry was popular today I must say… and the Paul McCartney to in his B-Day son. Cake by the ocean wow introduction for me. I like it! Great dance tune! Have a rockin’ week my friend! Big hugs!

  4. hahaha! OMG, that Katie Perry video was HILARIOUS! I had no idea she had such a great sense of humor. How fun. I just wish we could’ve seen her “big reveal” at all those parties. The part that cracked me up was when she took the man’s artificial leg and started strumming it like a guitar! Lol! Very fun. And a great way to start my day with a laugh… Thanks for that!

DNCE is new to me. “Cake by the Ocean” is a fun and catchy song. The video was a trip. Loved some of those hair-dos!

Trace Adkins and Miley Cyrus with her dad were two really nice touches on this birthday post.

Loved your whole post. Great job! (and now I have a DNCE earworm: “Go f”””in’ crazy” la-la-la-la-la… 🙂

    Have a great week Stacy.

  5. “Butterfly Fly Away” is such a sweet song about growing away. “Cake by the Ocean” is an upbeat party song, perfect for a 25th birthday. And I also picked the Katy Perry video. I didn’t know what to think the first time I saw it (for my post) but it really is hysterical. All good choices!
