Already the last few days of October – but we’re fast approaching my favorite time of year, as Thanksgiving happens to be one of my favorite holidays. It’s nice to take the time to reflect on what we’re thankful for, though we really should do that more than just once a year, don’t you think?

And of course it’s the one day you can pig out and not feel guilty. Ahem.

Since it’s Monday, it’s time for some music – since Halloween happens to be tomorrow (I know, right?!) of course the theme for this week is Halloween tunes! So let’s have some fun, shall we?

Let’s start off with a song that is perfect for Halloween, a little ‘out of the box’ thinking perhaps, but perfect nonetheless.

NightmareBeforeChristmas1

It hails from Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Chistmas” and is appropriately entitled, This is Halloween. Enjoy!

Next up is a song that needs to be on the list – it’s not just the title that’s scary, the vivid imagery and accompanying music video will have you on the edge of your seat.

While it’s about the memory of a former lover, this isn’t just a song of heartbreak: It’s haunting, even a little bit terrifying, and as the artist says, “Some of it’s just damn scary.” It will likely have you avoiding trains, tunnels and coal until next October. Just you wait and see.

EricChurch

Give a listen to Eric Church with “Creepin'”:

Next up is a song that finds the lead singer warning a loved one not to get too close to him as he is “dark inside.” He is more than aware of his imperfections and wants to protect the loved one from himself.

The song’s music video depicts images of the group performing the song at a hometown show in Las Vegas mixed with scenes of audience members thinking about their own personal demons. Director Isaac Halasima added a snippet at the clip’s conclusion showing the band dedicating their hit “It’s Time” to cancer victim Tyler Robinson. The 17-year-old fan subsequently died from the illness.

Give a listen to Imagine Dragons with “Demons”:

Last but not least is one of my favorite earworm songs. There’s love … and then there’s obsessive love. This song borders on the latter, and not only does it have an incredibly catchy chorus (hence the earworm quality), if you look at it closely, it’s actually pretty creepy:

“It won’t be whiskey, it won’t be meth / It’ll be your name on my last breath / If divorce or death ever do us part / The coroner will call it a broken heart”

Plus, the music video, complete with a gravedigger, gives an eerie visual to this perfect-for-Halloween song.

BandPerry

Give a listen to The Band Perry with “Better Dig Two”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday and safe Halloween – try not to overload yourself on candy!

  2. Stacy,
“Creepin'” is a new-to-me but I’m familiar with “Demons” and “Better Dig Two”. While these songs are suggestive to one’s inner darkness casts a certain eeriness especially with Band Perry’s song which totally creeps me out. It always has from the first time I heard it. Great to share the dance floor with you, my friend. Y’all have a safe and fun Halloween! 😉

  3. Hey Stacy,
Excellent picks for Halloween. “This is Halloween” is a fun little tune, isn’t it? And a great video too.
I am really digging “Better Dig Two”. I never heard it before and it’s wonderfully creepy for sure. I’m definitely going to dig deeper into the Band Perry to check out more of their stuff.
And Creepin’ — now that’s a cool song too. Very catchy.
I love the dedication to Tyler at the end of the Imagine Dragons video — it made me smile seeing Tyler having such a wonderful time. I’m sure that was a life highlight for him that night and I loved seeing the band and the audience giving him all that love. It was beautiful!

Hope you have a fun and fabulous Halloween. Be safe out there tomorrow!
