We made it through the weekend of stormy weather! So. Much. Rain. But nothing compared to what others got with hurricanes and such. Mother Nature really does seem to be going through some major menopausal symptoms with the weather – hot-cold-hot she’s been doling out all over.

Rain or no rain, I’m happy it’s finally fall – my favorite time of year. Another busy week ahead, but thankfully there won’t be rain to rain on our parade.

Meanwhile, it’s Monday, which means it’s time for some music! This week’s theme is “Tunes that are about vehicles such as cars, trucks, boats etc.!”  So grab your favorite tune(s) and dance along, won’t you?

Let’s start with a song that’s a laid-back humorous lament about this artist’s lack of cash and the practical notion that while we all know it can’t buy true happiness, it can buy a boat.

The video features the artist crooning along in his extra-deep register and strumming on an acoustic from a makeshift stage (a YETI cooler), surrounded by friends who share the same sentiment, as he explains that money can, of course, change how people see you (in his case, “redneck” and “blue collar”), and would that be such a bad thing?

If you’re a “” fan, you’ll recognize Deacon (Chip Esten) as he floats by in a canoe and exchanges a hat tip with the artist. This single was the first off this artist’s debut album, and was a big hit, showing great promise for the singer-songwriter, who had been bubbling under the surface for years, penning songs for artists like Tim McGraw (“Truck Yeah”) and Justin Moore (“Off the Beaten Path”).

ChrisJansonGive a listen to Chris Janson with “Buy Me A Boat”:

Next up is a favorite from a group who released this single in 2012, which became their first #1 hit. The song sparked a fashion craze, as fans sported T-shirts adorned with a phrase from the song, “Mmm….motorboatin’.”

The group had been nominated for at least one CMA Award at six consecutive ceremonies since their first nomination in 2006, but walked away empty-handed each time. Finally, in 2012, won Single of the Year for this song as well as Vocal Group of the Year.

Here’s  with “Pontoon”:

Next up is another I had to include because the artist is one of my all-time favorites.  It’s from her fourth studio album, and she co-wrote this dark tale of a scorned woman turning to murder.  She told Glamour magazine that though her lyrics are darker than ever, it doesn’t mean that she is a violent femme herself.

She shared with Billboard magazine that when she goes into a writing session, she sometimes adopts a character – one who doesn’t reflect the contentment in her real life situation. She sang this at the Grammy Awards in 2013 wearing a white dress that became a screen when images were projected on it.

Here’s  with ”:

Last, but not least, is an artist that wrote this particular song after reflecting back on his youth and how he came to the realization that owning a truck helped him pick up girls. He apparently drove what he called a ‘little box car’ during high school and college, and any time he would take someone out, they didn’t seem real interested in him every time they climbed in that little bucket car of his.

He learned that ditching the little box car for a pickup changed everything. He said it was like he became a whole new person, couldn’t peel the girls off him. He was the same person, so he figured there must be something about a truck.

  1. There is something about our vehicles, isn’t there? Great music selections, and i hope you have a fabulous Monday!

  2. Hey, I’m still alive. Took a blogging break so I could find my motivation again. Love all of your selections today and thanks for the thought on Tim McGraw’s Truck, Yeah, I posted it.

  3. Pontoon reminded me of all the pontoon boats I would see (I think they called them “party boats” on lakes when I lived years back in Northwest Arkansas. My favorite here was Carrie Underwood’s. Although I am not a big country music fan, I like her (and remember her beginning on American Idol).

  4. Oh yeah, “Pontoon” is definitely a vehicle & one of my favorite songs & will probably be stuck in my head for a few weeks I’m sure!!! LOL And who doesn’t love love love our Carrie – never saw this ending in her video!!! Then we have your last one many people posted today! Hope all is well with you & the little ones.! BIG HUGS & THANKS FOR THE FOOT STOMPIN’ BOOGIES!!!! woo hoo!

  5. Stacy,

Great minds think a like! You picked “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck” and so did I! Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” is a fun, summery song that always sets off the country boogie in me. I’m growing less enchanted with Carrie Underwood. I think it’s because every time I watch Sunday Night football I have to see her wearing that horrible red dress with the pretend sheer panels. There’s nothing sexy or pretty about it. I think if it were just a short red dress that isn’t trying to appear sheer would not only be prettier but sexier. Maybe next season, she redeems herself by wearing something amazing! 🙂 Thanks for sharing some fabulous mewsic about boats, cars, and trucks!

  6. Wow, wow, wow! I never heard Carrie Underwood’s “Two Black Cadillacs”. What an amazing story and a great video! She sure has a vengeful spirit — I posted her song “Before He Cheats” because the car is the main feature in that video. She has an awesome voice. Thanks for introducing me to “Two Black Cadillacs”!

I LOVE the pontoon song! One of my best friends used to have a pontoon boat and she planned a big outing for me and a bunch of friends out on the boat for my birthday one year. That was so much fun and I have great memories from that night…for the most part anyway. A few of my friends ended up walking me upstairs and putting me to bed that night, I had so much to drink. I heard some funny stories the next day! Lord, that was a while ago. I was in my 30s! Way too long ago…
Anyway, another great introduction: Little Big Town and “Pontoon” is now going on my Favorites playlist, thanks to you.
And “Buy Me a Boat” is such a cool song as well. I included Kip Moore’s truck song on my country playlist too.
This was such a fun theme, wasn’t it? I almost skipped it but the more I thought about the theme, I knew I just had to dig in and do it. Glad I did!

Awesome 4M post Stacy! Have a good week…

  7. There is mess in the weather indeed. It happens each year in some degrees or other 🙂
It’s just rough all the way around.
And sad when we stop hearing how people are doing on the news.

Thanks for bringing out the boom radio with the tunes.

    Have a lovely day!
