Whoa! It’s already Tuesday? Where’d the last week go? Today is a special day, though, because it’s the first day of Summer! And it’s Summer Solstice, which means it’s the longest day of the year. So for those of you who complain about the short days of winter, today’s your day to enjoy the extra daylight and hopefully sunshine!

Well, unless you’re my friends in Arizona, who have been having more than their share of hotter-than-the-hinges-of-hell weather lately. Wonder if anyone’s tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk during the heat there?

I also wonder if anyone’s been using the phrase “it’s a dry heat” or “it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity!”

Speaking of heat…. So far we’ve fared OK with the hot weather in our new house, though we haven’t gotten the multiple days in a row scorching heat like Arizona, or year-before-last when we had that blazing hot drought summer. Remember our previous house one of the first things we did was have central air installed, because after living for 11 years in our 1817 farmhouse in hot and humid PA without it, I didn’t want to be without it again.

Naturally, our newest house (built in 1930) didn’t come equipped with central air, but there have only been a couple of nights where it’s been too hot to sleep soundly. If it ever gets to be too much, luckily our guest room is situated in the basement, so if we ever need to sleep where it’s cooler, we can relocate there.

Of course, we’d have to kick Princess Nagger out, she’s been taking over the guest room for its coolness at night since her room on the main floor tends to be on the warm side. While not as hot as our room on the top floor, but she does have a loft bed, so all the heat in her room is situated near the ceiling with her.

I think the house being up on a hill helps keep the heat mostly down, though, because we’re positioned for some great cross-breezes. If we only have to deal with a few nights a year where it’s a bit too warm upstairs, I can live with that. Plus, my craft room, winemaking room, and the guest room are all in the basement – before I head up to bed I make sure I spend extra time where it’s cool – almost to the point of being cold – before I head upstairs, so the heat bothers me way less, as I feel the need to warm up.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love this house? Even without air conditioning!

I’m just going to leave this right here:

It’s time once again for Leslie’s (aka Rory Bore) Tuesday Coffee Chat!

The question or prompt for this week is:

“Shameful!!! Come on, fess up! We all have a book, movie, or song… maybe even celebrity crush that we are a bit ashamed to say we love! I’m listening.

You might think I’m crazy, but I have had a trifecta crush going on for many years. First up, Don Johnson from Miami Vice days:

And honestly, the man has aged fairly well as he’s gotten older. So obviously that 80’s through eternity crush is valid. Then, of course, there’s Johnny Depp – I think all my friends pretty much fight over who gets to love Johnny Depp:

I mean hello hotness! Excuse me while I wipe up some drool… But let’s not overshadow the third in this trifecta of crushin’, the inimitable Robert Downey Jr.:

One word: Yummy! And I just noticed I picked images with close to the same arm poses – what’s up with that pose?! Who cares?!

That’s a wrap for this week – you know the drill, link up and join in the fun, everyone is welcome, random or not. And that means even if you don’t have a specific Random Tuesday Thoughts Rebel post posted, you can still link up, I’m not picky. You don’t even have to add the badge, just link up so I can come harass you on your blog. I promise to play nice.

  1. Those are some great celebrity crushes! Of those three, I’d be most likely to choose Johnny Depp. I don’t know what it is about him. Charisma, I guess. Happy first day of summer! We’ve had over 90 for several days in a row, maybe two weeks? Arizona is definitely hot! We were there when they reached 122. I live in hot weather, but that’s just unreal! Hope you’ve had a good start to summer!

  2. I love when people excuse a hot day by saying “it’s a dry heat.” My father-in-law lives in Tucson and he said it was upwards of 110 the other day and no matter how dry, that’s effing hot!
I am right there with you on RDJ; he can still get it after all these years!

  3. I approve of all your celebrity boyfriends – LOL
That photo with the dog – perfect LMAO.
Hubby cannot stand the heat – dry, humid, whatever, he goes crazy and I go crazy trying to live with him. Or, he freezes everyone out of the house “just put on a sweater” because he cranks the A/C. I don’t want to put a sweater on in July!!! And besides, I find I always get a sore throat from the A/C if it’s too cold. So this summer, we got a fan for our room and what a difference!!! He sleeps so much better now — just that bit of air circulating make a huge difference.
