We had a gorgeous weekend, finally! The sun was shining brightly for my hubby’s birthday yesterday, which made him very happy, especially since the temperature reached the low 60s! He was in 7th heaven and of course had a great birthday (if I do say so myself…heh!)

Meanwhile it’s Monday, always the perfect day for some great music! This week’s theme is a freebie, so grab your favorite tune and come dance along with us, won’t you?

Let’s start with an artist who is celebrating the premiere of the Netflix Series “13 Reasons Why”. Not only did she record this song for its soundtrack (a haunting cover of an 80’s tune), but she also executive produced the series.

13 Reasons Why is based on the popular young adult book by Jay Asher (published in 2007), which holds a special place in this artist’s heart. She was quoted as saying:

“After 7 years of holding onto this book, I couldn’t of picked a better time for this message to exist. Jay Asher wrote a beautifully tragic, compelling story and we were lucky to have brought it to life. Thank you to every single soul that put their heart into this passion project.”

Give a listen to Selena Gomez with “Only You”:

Next up is a dancy song this artist penned with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and pop producer Steve Mac. He sings about falling in love with a girl that he meets at a bar.

The song broke a Spotify record for streams in a single day when it was played 6,868,642 times globally in its first 24 hours.

This was this artist’s first US Hot 100 #1 as a performer , though he had previously topped the tally as a writer, having co-penned Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”

The video stars the artist as an aspiring boxer who strikes up a romance with a fellow pugilist played by Fresh Pair actress Jennie Pegouskie. The clip was filmed in Seattle and directed by Macklemore’s frequent visual collaborator Jason Koenig.

This song has been stuck in my head for a few weeks, so now it’s your turn to have it stuck in yours. In a good way, of course!

Without further ado, here’s Ed Sheeran with “Shape of You”:

Next up is a song that I heard on a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy – so of course I had to hunt it down. It was inspired by a “girly chat” that this artist was having with her stylist in a hotel room, whilst on tour in Scotland. The singer was quoted as saying:

“She said that when she got back home with one of her boyfriends she said It really felt like that’s where I sleep, and I just loved that phrase. Like it doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you always know that’s where your home is.”

Here’s the talented Emeli Sandé with “Where I Sleep”:

Last, but definitely not least, is a brand new song from one of my all-time favorite artists. He’s steadily morphed from a standard pop-country crooner who alternated between devastating ballads and goofy hits in his early career to country music’s most reliably woke bro.

The artist’s latest topical target is people snapping photos of themselves at the worst times, and this song mostly hits the mark. I have to say, though, that the composition is not quite up to par as other songs from this artist, because it stops and starts in odd ways that make us think maybe he got overwhelmed with excitement about the idea of the song before he had a song all the way together.

Still, the selfie-stick smashing lyrics and jokes about funeral photo ops make the track worth a listen – for the most part the song is a goofy and fun listen.

Here’s the ultra-talented Brad Paisley with “selfie#theinternetisforever”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday!
