It’s time once again for some Friday fill-in fun, the perfect way to wrap up the week and kick off the weekend!

From Ann of McGuffy’s Reader:

“The Friendly Fill-Ins are four fun and easy statements to complete. Ellen of 15andmeowing provides the first two statements and the final two are offered by myself. We try to make sure they will be fun to both answer and share. On Friday, the linky will be posted at or about 12:00 AM. Please come back, link up, and share your thoughts!”

And away we go! Here are this week’s statements with my fill-ins:

1. I hope… Emerald City gets renewed for another season.

EmeraldCity

There’s no place like home… and every week, home for me Princess Nagger has been Oz. Thanks to Emerald City, we’ve been watching Dorothy, Lucas, Glinda, West, Tip, Toto, and The Wizard go on different adventures. But the first season has come to an end as of March 3rd, and of course they left us with a cliff hanger.

So now we’re hoping against hope that Emerald City will return for Season 2. Announcements won’t be made until May, of course, when the networks typically do their up-fronts and let us know what shows are renewed or canceled, and what new shows will be coming.

For those unfamiliar with it, Emerald City is a grownup take on the story that’s (not inaccurately) being called a darker interpretation and “The Wizard of Oz meets Game of Thrones.” It’s an over-the-top, often eye-popping spectacle that keeps steady with the basic story while giving it modern updates and imaginative, playful turns. It’s addictive – if only to see how the plot points you. So now, especially with a cliff-hanger, Princess Nagger and I are hoping against hope it gets renewed for Season 2.

Besides, it’s fun to watch Vincent D’Onofrio – who spent most of his career on the big screen, but signed on for his first-ever series-regular role in 2001 as a brilliant, oddball detective on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. That’s where I remember him best (and missed him when he left the show), but now? He’s a brilliant oddball wizard. It’d be a shame if this new series only lasted the one season.

2. My first crush was… Erik Estrada from CHiPs:

ErikEstrada

Long story short, my dad didn’t think TV was a good influence on us kids early on, so he got rid of all our TV’s. When I started babysitting our neighbors kids as my first paying ‘job’ at 12 years old, I discovered this new-ish show called CHiPs, and was hooked. Not only on the show, but crushin’ big time on Erik.

Funny thing is, when I described the show to my parents, my dad happened to be helping out a guy from work fix his TV (my dad is handy like that – I learned a lot and can be quite handy myself), so he decided to check out this cop show I was going on and on about. That was the turning point in the ‘No TV’s in the house’ rule – he got a TV and the rest, as they say, was history.

Of course my crush transferred to others in the following years, but I’ll always remember Erik Estrada as my first crush.

3. Coffee usually makes me very happy in the morning.

Coffee

I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was in my early 20’s – I worked in an office where I was one of the first ones in every morning to avoid the snarl of the crazy commute, and knowing all my co-workers were avid coffee drinkers, I’d get the coffee started. I’ve always loved the aroma of fresh brewed coffee, but didn’t like the taste.

Until one morning, inspiration hit, and I decided to add a packet of hot chocolate to a cup of coffee – I probably invented mochas, but whatever. That was the day I started drinking coffee. I can’t just drink it black, though – I have to have it doctored up or no coffee for me. But my morning routine just isn’t the same without it.

4. If I were a super-hero, I would be… Wonder Woman

NewWonderWoman

I absolutely loved Lynda Carter in the original (to me) role, but from what I understand the ‘new’ Wonder Woman for the movie is awesome, too. I mean, who wouldn’t want to give the other superheros a run for their money?

Plus, I would so love to have the Lasso of Truth, wouldn’t you?

This week I’m celebrating (and patting myself on the back) for having successfully built one of these all by myself:

KitchenIsland

I wanted a kitchen island, but wasn’t sure the space would accommodate a permanent one, so I bought this one instead, since it’s on wheels and can be moved around at will. It was a bear to put together solo, but I managed it! And it looks awesome – I’ll have to take pictures of it so you can see it in my kitchen, but trust me when I tell you it’s perfect.

Now the vintage/antique wall-mounted hutch that was part of my antique/vintage sideboard (which is taking up residence in the living room – the hutch is hanging on the end wall in my kitchen) will need to be painted the same color of red so it’ll match, of course, but that’s next on my project list. Maybe I’ll wait to take pictures of both when done so you can see the ‘final’ effect!

That’s a wrap! Hope you join in the fun! Check out the other Friendly Fill-Ins participants and join in if you feel the urge for some fun!

  1. Love the island! I am not a coffee drinker but I do enjoy those frufru coffees at Starbucks occasionally but… duh… I never thought of adding a packet of hot chocolate to a mug of coffee. Must try! Like right now!

  2. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I love the story about getting your Dad into CHIPS. I hope Emerald City gets renewed, I have never seen it, but I know how frustrating it is to get into a show only to have it get canceled. Coffee makes me happy at any hour. Your red island came out fantastic. I love that pop of red color.Have a great weekend!

  3. I’d never be able to build that by myself. You’re truly Wonder Woman! It looks so great. I wish my kitchen was big enough for an island… I hope you see a renewal of that series you like. I like my coffee with choc, creamer, and sweetener! Have a great weekend!

  4. I love your #2 answer! How funny that CHIPs made your dad a convert, so to speak, back to TV.

That is wonderful that you made a kitchen island! I’m so envious!

  5. I have never heard of that TV…but there are so very many, now. That is great that you watch it together. March seems so early to end a season! I recall it used to be September -May! Not anymore. I never watched CHIPs either, but I remember it, and several friends had crushes on “Ponch”.
I definitely need coffee in the morning. I got hooked when I was 17. I gave it up in my 40s, but that didn’t last. I enjoy it but am not addicted, now.
Wonder Woman was a popular answer, and Cat Woman, too. I am not sure Cat Woman was a super-hero, though. Wasn’t she a villain?
I hope to get an island like that when we move if needed. I think that is great that you did that! Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs.

  6. I am impressed with the island! Good job. I would like to have a body like Wonder Woman with or without the superhero power stuff. The hot chocolate and coffee thing…definitely have to try.

  7. Your island looks great- congrats! The smile on the coffee mixture is so cute. . .I’m going to have to try that. I bet the kids would love it (well, without the coffee and just hot chocolate in their case 😉 )
