We are continuing to be blessed with some amazing  weather. So those of you who think it always rains in Seattle should really come for a visit and enjoy the beautiful sunshine and blue skies.

Or actually don’t, because you won’t want to leave.

Speaking of leaving… So yesterday we get a call from the school alerting us to an ‘unplanned calendar change’ creating an extra day off for the kids – but of course pushing the last day of school out one day, since that ‘unplanned’ day off in the next couple of weeks needs to be made up.

Apparently those that are they took a vote last week to do a one-day walk-out… so now it’s being touted as an ‘unplanned calendar’ change – planned  for June. Doesn’t that seem like an oxymoron to you? Planning an unplanned change and planning to push the last day of school a day?

It’s for a good cause though, our school district is among more than 30 teacher associations across Washington that have either held or have voted to hold one-day strikes to rally for funding from the state Legislature.

WA-St-TeacherWalkOut

Though the hubby, who’s a professor in secondary education, thought that it would make more impact, as it were, if they didn’t treat the ‘walk out’ day like an ‘unplanned snow day’ as they’ve described it to be, hence the extra day at the end of the year as a make-up day. Shouldn’t they just call it a day and not make it up to drive the point home to Legislature?

Speaking of walking…or something… I’ve joined one of my favorite radio personalities, Ellen Tailor from The Wolf for in her DietBet challengeDietBet is a game where you put money on the line saying that you’ll lose 4% of your weight in 4 weeks. You submit pictures with code words to prove your beginning and ending weights. After four weeks, anyone who has hit their 4% goal is a winner and splits the total pot money.

Well, you know. Money in the pot. Not actual mary jane dinero. Ahem.

Here’s a visual for what it is:

It’s time once again for Leslie’s (aka Rory Bore) Tuesday Chat!

This week’s prompt or question is:

“The last photo you took with a cell phone, or a camera:  Write a story about the picture in 10 sentences or less.”

That’s an easy one. Here’s the last photo taken on my camera:

BlackspotClocked

My grandfather clock is 7-1/2 feet tall. Ever since I added a cabinet to the right to organize our video games, he’s used it as a launching pad to get up on top just to hang out and watch everything going on (and avoid the dogs) from a very high perch.

He’ll also leap up to the higher point, the old hanging china hutch we re-purposed as our video storage above our TV, but he’s obviously not being very helpful as I see that there’s a cobweb I need to deal with. He could at least make good use of his time up there, don’t you think?

I think I’m going to have some fun (at his expense) with the series of shots I took of him hanging out up there – tune in tomorrow for some Blackspot thought bubbles.

Happy Birthday, Leslie! Hope all your wishes come true today.

That’s a wrap for this week – you know the drill, link up and join in the fun, everyone is welcome, random or not. And that means even if you don’t have a specific Random Tuesday Thoughts Rebel post posted, you can still link up, I’m not picky. You don’t even have to add the badge, just link up so I can come harass you on your blog. I promise to play nice.

  1. Hey Stacy, didn’t you say in a previous post that you don’t want too many tourists? Or was it you don’t want them to stay long – LOL
My cat also always was up there somewhere, the highest vantage point to look down on the world. Or hidden in the darkest part of a closet, couch etc. etc. – you get the picture.
Good luck with the DietBet! I don’t think I am quite up for something like that yet…

  2. We had a random day in October that the kids were off but now they have to go to school on June 1st, a Monday. That seems really odd to me. Why give them a break when they just have to make it up anyway? Makes no sense to me.

  3. We are out this Thursday and I am soooooo ready for the break. I know a few weeks after summer, I will be ready for them to go back, but right now, I am just ready for quiet mornings!

Love the kitty. Felines make our lives complete!

  4. We have two weeks until school is out. Summer has crept up on us far faster than I thought it would. It hasn’t helped that we still have snow in the weather forecast.

  5. I swear cats are like a completely different dimension than the rest of us. they will rule us all one day, mark my words. Our cat gets up on the top of the entertainment unit too. just sits up there watching us, as we watch TV. it’s very weird. LOL
I think they really do want to be “above” us at all times.
Our school district has been in “work to rule” for some time now. instead of striking, which as you see can cause days to be made up — instead they drop other activities within the school day. So one day, they may all just decide not to teach a certain curriculum. Or, they won’t do lunch monitor. No sport practice. whatever they decide. It causes disruptions that are inconvenient for sure: but — the kids don’t end up missing an entire day of education.

  6. Thank you for this post.
    I agree with your point.
Not everyone has a million dollars stashed away or can afford to spend $15K per kid per year.
    Have a Beautiful Day!
    Peace 🙂
