Super Moon FAIL – Unless Your Name is Tim Durkan

This past weekend was the first of three Super Moons we’ll be blessed with this summer. I had every intention of staying up late enough to get some great shots of the cool moon from my backyard, but it got late and I had an early alarm Sunday morning.

Best intentions and all that jazz.

The only shot I managed to get on a whim with my phone was of the dark sky patiently waiting for the moon to rise above the horizon and trees:

Super Moon FAIL on my part. Ahem.

Luckily there will be an even more impressive one on August 10th – you can bet I’ll be stalking the moon from my backyard regardless of time and/or alarm status. We should be lucky enough to not have cloudy or rainy weather, since August is typically clear here in the Pacific Northwest. (fingers crossed)

Perusing the local and international news and photo submissions, I ran across a submission from a very patient man named Tim Durkan, who stalked the moon and got the most amazing shot in line with the Space Needle:

Isn’t that one of the most amazing shots? If you click on the image, you can see a couple more cool ones Tim Durkan took – I’m going to keep an eye out to see what awesome shots he’ll get with the next two Super Moons in August and September.

Hopefully I’ll get a decent shot over the trees in our backyard next month. Wish me luck!

Did you stay up late (or get up early) to see the Super Moon?

About StacyUncorked

After 20+ years in the Corporate World and years of infertility, Stacy was surprised when Princess Nagger made her miraculous appearance - deciding to forgo the career and stay home was a no-brainer. As if her hands weren't full enough, 8 years later she and her husband added Little Dude through adoption, adding a whole new dimension (of crazy) to their family and even more sleepless nights. When she’s not refereeing kids, dogs and cats, she loves to write, hence the reason she decided to start her little blog, and because she never got a baby book to mark milestones, this was the next best thing. She also enjoys doing reviews and giveaways for products she or her family would willingly use and can stand behind. She loves to cook and try new techniques to turn ordinary into extraordinary. Crafty by nature, she takes on a lot of unique projects and enjoy seeing the end result. Her favorite, of course, is making her award winning wine out of fruits and grapes. Experiments with water currently underway.

  1. I tried to get a shot of the moon on Thursday–it was so huge and lovely. Didn’t really succeed, but I did enjoy appreciating it.

  2. I didn’t realize until after the fact that this past weekend there was a Super Moon. I did see it on Friday night through the blinds in the living room before going to bed and it was pretty amazing, but it just didn’t register. I wish I could have gotten a photo of it now. 🙁 Now this picture is pretty cool. It almost looks like it isn’t real, but some photographers really know how to pull out all the tricks to get those magical shots. Those other ones were pretty amazing, too. Happy WW!

  4. You still got a very pretty shot. I missed the Super Moon this month, too. Must mark the calendar for August 10!

  5. Sometimes our body says it’s enough, and we just have to go and rest (look who is talking – sure).
You still got some nice shots.
Have a wonderful rest of the week!
