The school rush each morning is particularly crazy what with the kids going to two different school districts this year, and me getting acclimated to spending a lot of time in my car driving them to and from school. There are some mornings when I have a major Blonde Moment and forget to pack a lunch for one of the minions, until just before we’re all ready to leave.

Some days I need to just get up a bit earlier (as if 5:00 a.m. wasn’t early enough – !!) and maybe have an extra cup of coffee to make sure important things, like packing a lunch, aren’t overlooked until it’s time to rush out the door. At least I’ve never made the mistake I did when Princess Nagger was in 1st grade and sent her to school with an empty lunchbox, thinking I’d already packed it. #MomFail.

You know those lunch kits – who shall remain namelss – where they have crackers and cheese (among other things)? Well, I used to keep those on hand all the time, just for a quick snack option, or to throw into a lunchbox when the time crunch is closing in before racing out the door. Apparently Princess Nagger no longer wants those in her lunch, because they’re “embarrassing”. Who knew?

Luckily Revolution Foods has a non-embarrasing, healthier option for those pull-your-hair-out-because-the-kids-dilly-dallied-and-you-forgot-to-pack-a-lunch moments:

Not only does their pleasant packaging meet with Princess Nagger’s approval for being non-embarrassing, but these yummy kits are made with all natural ingredients, with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Score!

Revolution Foods Meal Kits come in these varieties:

  • Turkey & Cheddar
  • Ham & Cheddar
  • Cheese Pizza
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly

Each meal kit provides one whole serving of fruit and at least 7 grams of whole grains.  They also contain humanely raised meats that do not contain hormones or nitrates or nitrites and cheeses without rBST growth hormones. Revolution Foods keeps it simple, nutritious and great tasting.

I found them in my local Safeway store, but they only had two of the four flavors available, so I got two of one flavor and one of another just to kid-test them:

Notice which one I doubled up on? I’ve never met a kid who doesn’t love pizza – no matter what form it comes in.

Surprisingly, Little Dude asked for the cheese and cracker one to take along for his field trip last week – these kits make those field trip days so much easier, since you need to pack a lunch that can be completely disposed of so there’s no containers or lunchboxes or anything to have the parent volunteers and teachers keep track of.

When he got home from his field trip, he raved about how good his lunch was – he especially liked the fruit snack that came in the kit, too. He reported that his lunch was “Yummy to [his] tummy!”

Princess Nagger tested out one of the pizza kits, and gave it two thumbs up. She said I can buy as many as I want to keep on hand, as she’d like them for an after school snack on occasion, too. She also said when she gets bored of the usually requested ham sandwich or mac’n’cheese in her lunch, she’d like to take one of these to school – and won’t be embarrassed to do so. Alrighty then!

These kits are great for adults, too – they make a great light meal or snack, and be confident you’re eating something healthy (as opposed to other types that are loaded with preservatives). I’ll definitely be keeping these on hand for those snack-attacks or crazy Blonde Moment mornings to make sure the kids have something healthy ready for consumption.

Plus I’ll keep checking back for the other flavors – I’m really curious to see how the peanut butter and jelly kits measure up to my kid-testers. I might beat them to the punch on that one. Ahem.

Revolution Foods Meal Kits are available at Safeway stores nationwide, and you can even print out a money saving coupon here. Feel free to follow Revolution Foods on Facebook or on Twitter to stay up to date on any future offers and new products, too.

Do you have any favorite quick-and-easy go-to healthy snacks you keep on hand for emergencies (or non-emergencies)?

  1. Well, look at Lil’ Dude! I haven’t seen him in a while. He’s gettin’ big & what a cute smile. Now as far as snacks well I like to cut strips of celery and put them in baggies & baby carrots the same way along with cucumbers and I leave them in the frig as snack food. Sometimes I go for variety, but it just depends on my mood when I’m at the store I guess. 🙂 These sound great though to have around when the kids come over. I might try that turkey & cheddar. Thanks for sharing.
