Summer has begun (well, not officially,  since that doesn’t happen until June 21st, but since school is out and the weather has already been hot, we’re rolling with summer).  I don’t know about you, but during the summer months we tend to utilize our grill as often as possible.  Father’s Day is one week from today – time to start brainstorming on something special for the Dad in your life.

LongHorn Steakhouse thinks they deserve a special day to sit back, relax and have someone else fulfill their cravings for a juicy and flavorful steak.  This Father’s Day weekend, LongHorn Steakhouse is inviting families to give Dad the “ok” to put down the tongs, take a night off from the grill and be treated to a LongHorn “Steakcation”.

We were thrilled when a LongHorn Steakhouse opened here locally – Princess Nagger said any place with the name ‘steak’ in it was definitely good with her:

We decided to do a Father’s Day dinner early, to avoid the excessive crowds on the actual day.  The kids were happy to play king of the rock out in the parking lot while we waited for our table (though this time there were lots more people milling about so I didn’t get pictures this time, but it was reminiscent of our first visit last year):

The hubby was a little disconcerted by the fact that we got seated by the same cowboy on a horse statue as last time – it’s almost like a running joke since he’s afraid of horses.  But he bucked up.  Get it?

Princess nagger was looking forward to ordering a nice juicy steak, happy as a clam:

Little Dude was looking forward to the grilled cheeseburger and fries he wanted from the kid’s menu, too busy to pose for the camera while he colored the kids menu the server provided:

Princess Nagger was looking forward to ordering a steak off the regular menu, vs. the kid’s menu, because she wanted to make sure she got a big steak to devour.  And especially when she saw they had a new Smoky Double Bacon Sirloin – she claimed it was the best of both worlds.

I went with the Bold Balsamic BBQ Sirloin while the spice-loving hubby opted for the Spicy Jalapeno Cheddar Sirloin – all were absolutely delicious!

It’s very obvious they use fresh (and never frozen) hand-seasoned steaks that they really do expertly grill to perfection.  The hubby went with a regular baked potato while Princess Nagger and I opted for our favorite, the baked sweet potato drizzled with brown sugar and butter.  Yum.

There were many times the hubby would joke with the server when they would help pack up any leftovers to take home, if they could accidentally on purpose put one of the awesome steak knives in with the leftovers.  Well guess what?  No, they still won’t pack a knife with the leftovers, but for a limited time, LongHorn is offering its signature steak knife for sale as a gift set.  It’s a great gift for a great dad!

My Electrical Engineering hubby is still learning the fine art of great grilling, so I think I’m going to print out this handy dandy Grilling Tips Fact Sheet just to give him a good basis to work by:

Princess Nagger can’t wait until we go back to LongHorn Steakhouse again in the future – she’s already plotting which steak her carnivorous self will be devouring next.  I wonder how long it will be before Little Dude will decide he wants to graduate from a cheeseburger to a steak?  We’re all looking forward to a return visit in the future – hopefully sooner rather than later.

Are you going to give the Dad in your life a Steakcation this Father’s Day?

  1. Now I totally want steak. We have a Longhorn Steakhouse about 5 minutes from here, but we haven’t tried it. Looks like I need to visit soon!
