Tomorrow is a big day for fans of Jim Henson’s Sid the Science Kid – it’s the premiere of the 90-minute Sid the Science Kid: The Movie!

Sid the Science Kid airs on PBS and is an educational series for preschoolers with a focus on science and exploration.  This will be the first time Sid will star in a feature-length movie!

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek – and it’s definitely a fun one.  Princess Nagger especially liked the cool dinosaur portion:

From PBS:

Sid the Science Kid: The Movie follows Sid and his friend Gabriela through their adventure in The Super Ultimate Science Museum. After winning a science fair contest for creating an awesome science experiment, Sid and Gabriela are named “Junior Investigators” and get a special viewing of the new museum before it opens to the public.

Once there, they meet quirky scientist Dr. Bonabodon, voiced by guest-star Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), who has designed robot tour guides of the future, including Bobbybot, his greatest creation. When Sid and Gabriela are introduced to Yangyang and Niuniu, the impressive big-kid “Future Scientist” contest winners from China, they start to wonder if they really know their science stuff.

Together the four pals observe giant honey bees, investigate robots, and even encounter a giant singing Tyrannosaurus Rex. But after their robot tour guide short circuits, Sid, Gabriela, Yangyang, and Niuniu have to work together and use science to try to save the day. Together, they learn that you can be a scientist at any age and that thinking like a kid is sometimes the best way to solve a problem!

Princess Nagger has been a big fan of Sid the Science Kid forever (and often he’s the reason she’d launch her own random scientific experiments).  Even though it’s geared towards preschoolers, she still enjoys watching even now – sort of like an old friend.  Little Dude was so enraptured with the movie that it was probably the longest period of time he actually sat still!  I might have to bring this out when I need 90 minutes of peace and quiet.  Ahem.

Sid the Science Kid the Movie debuts tomorrow, March 25th on PBS (check your local listings for times).  There will also be encore performances on March 29th and March 31st in case you miss tomorrow’s premiere.  And, so you can have 90 minutes of peace and quiet, the movie will be available on DVD and iTunes by NCircle Entertainment on April 2nd.  So no matter what, your little Sid the Science Kid fans will be happy campers.

But wait – there’s more!  How would you like to win a cute Sid the Science Kid talking plush for your little fan?  Well alrighty then!

Note:  I received a preview DVD thanks to the Jim Henson Company, and while I was promised a talking plush Sid for the kids, it turned into the proverbial “the check is in the mail” syndrome, as it never arrived.  What a bummer.  No monetary compensation was received implied or otherwise.   As always, all opinions are mine and not influenced by outside sources.
