I’ve been a coffee drinker for quite awhile, but I had no idea there was an official “International Coffee Day” – did you?  If you didn’t, it was September 29th – you might want to mark that down for next year.

Luckily I was informed of this fun holiday by way of having the opportunity to host an International Delight Iced Coffee Party.  Bet you didn’t know International Delight, well known for their yummy flavored creamers, now has their own ready-to-drink iced coffee, did you?

I’m here to tell you it’s delicious.  I had to scramble to throw a small-ish party together, but since I love to entertain, I embraced a last-minute party because then I could procrastinate a little longer on the organization I’d been subjecting myself to.

Of course just a couple of days prior to the party our kitchen was in disarray with the arrival of our shiny new appliances, so I had one day to pull everything together – and since our new dishwasher wasn’t able to be installed, we had to work around its presence in the living room.  Luckily my friends are used to seeing my house in less than stellar conditions.  Ahem.

I sent the hubby to the store the day before the party to pick up the new International Delight Iced Coffee – apparently he was only able to find the Mocha, so the day of the party not only did I find the vanilla I asked him to get, but as a bonus, the new Caramel Macchiato:

To help celebrate National Coffee Day, we were generously sent an International Delight Iced Coffee party kit that contained everything I needed to host my party. Tasty recipes, a fun banner, chalkboard quotes, coupons and silly straws were just some of the things that were included in my kit.  Princess Nagger has now laid claim on the chalkboard quotes that she plans to use with her party guests for her birthday.  She also loved the silly straws since they’re much bigger than the ones she has, which work better for tall glasses.

Since the dining room still had my winemaking stuff stacked in it, I set up the drink area on our pellet stove (since it was still way too warm to even think about firing that sucker up):

That worked out perfectly, and the bar to the right (that I neglected to take pictures of) was home to all the yummy appetizers I whipped up on a whim to complement the iced coffee.  I also had another carton of each of the iced coffees at the ready, since I knew these would be emptied posthaste.  I think it’s funny to note that Princess Nagger helped me write on the chalkboard quotes – but you can’t tell the difference between the ones she wrote on and the ones I wrote on.

Some fun coffee facts:

  • Think iced coffee is just for Summer? 62% of iced coffee drinkers drink it during Winter months
  • Iced coffee servings have doubled since 2005
  • 78% of people purchase their iced coffee on the go
  • International Delight Iced Coffee is made with 100% Arabica coffee

International Delight new Iced Coffees  currently come in four flavors:  Original, Vanilla (my favorite), Mocha (the hubby’s favorite), and Caramel Macchiato (my second favorite).  I was able to find the Vanilla and Caramel Macchiato only at Walmart, they were sold out at the local grocery stores so they’re obviously very popular.  International Delight also has some great recipes on their Facebook page you make with their new drink line – I’ve been making my own Frappuccino’s right here at home.

All the partiers were amazed at how good the Iced Coffee was, and my hubby is hooked on the Mocha flavor.  He is a chocaholic after all.    It’s nice to keep the convenient half-gallons in the fridge for whenever the craving hits.

Are you an iced coffee drinker?  Have you tried International Delight’s new iced coffee yet?
