Here we are, facing another Monday – with a slightly different aspect, seeing as how summer is coming to a close.ย  Some kids are already back in school (like Princess Nagger) while others still have this as their final week of ‘freedom’.

In honor of this being Back to School season, one of our Spotlight Dancers, Heather’s Happenings, suggested the theme for the week’s Monday’s Music Moves Me be Billboard Hits from the year you graduated High School, or your Favorite Prom Song.

I decided to do things a little bit differently since I didn’t really have any favorite songs from the year I graduated (and I don’t want to be boring) and we didn’t have Prom at our school (I know, right?) so I’ve opted to go with a creative twist and chose great songs from more current top Prom songs.ย  You’re welcome.

First, let’s start with ever controversial but oh so talented Katy Perry with her newest hit “Wide Awake”:

She does have a cool official music video for the song, but the embed option is turned off for now.ย  You can see the official music video here:

Next up is an artist who I’ve only fairly recently gotten familiar with, and love her music, here’s Carly Rae Jepsen with “Call Me Maybe”:

Next up is a group who got their start on the Disney Channel.ย  Have you noticed Princess Nagger has had some influence on expanding my musical preferences?ย  Though she’d much rather I share something from Linkin’ Park or the theme song for Soul Eaters.ย  Maybe next week.ย

At any rate, these guys have a song that’s featured in the movie PROM, so naturally it’s a great fit for today’s theme.ย  Here’s Allstar Weekend with “Not Your Birthday” (PROM Movie Version):

And finally, a group I’m not all that familiar with but they have a great sound, here’s a song that was nominated for a Teen Choice Award, give a listen to We the Kings with “We’ll Be A Dream” (featuring Demi Lovato):

ย

Wait… am I dreaming?ย  Have a great Monday.

Now on to the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:

  1. I love the way you put a twist on things. Katy Perry & Carly Rae Jepsen I’m already diggin’, now you’ve got my brain pulled into two new (to me) groups – Allstar Weekend & We The Kings. Thanks for the introduction! You so rock, my friend! =D

    1. Isn’t that Katy Perry song great? She does have talent! ๐Ÿ™‚ Yep, no prom – small private school, so they decided to forgo any kind of Prom. They did have Homecoming, though – just no dancing. I was deprived! ๐Ÿ™‚ Speaking of deprived – the cads at Google took away GFC for us non-blogger.com blogs. I’m still miffed. Thanks for following me through BlogLovin’! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. You’ve definitely assembled an interesting mix of songs here! I must say, while not really my tastes, I DO really like that Katy Perry song; I will admit she is quite the artist! I initially expected really poppy songs from her, but aside from the pop, she has some really interesting spins on her songs.

I can’t believe you didn’t have a prom either! I almost didn’t get to go myself, but for completely different reasons involving health.

Thanks for playing along and sharing some new songs with us all ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a musical week!

  3. It’s funny how our kids can influence our musical tastes now and then. I still find myself humming some of the Wiggles tunes :/

right now my kids are obsessed with finding all the different parodies of Call Me Maybe. The cookie monster one is their current fave, but I found a Star Wars one that will blow their little minds. ha

    1. It is funny how our kids can influence our musical tastes – I thought I was done with humming Wiggles tunes – or the theme to Caillou, or any of the others since Princess Nagger outgrew them…but then Little Dude joined our family and it’s like I stepped in a time machine backwards 5 years! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I’m going to be obsessed with finding all the parodies of Call Me Maybe – especially since you mentioned there’s a Star Wars one! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I’ll have to check those songs out – I haven’t heard of any of them except for Call me Maybe – and that’s just because Cookie Monster did a parody of it. I gotta find time for music – it’s all kiddie stuff these days! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. The song “call me maybe” is really cute! Personally, the intro part of the song is something that wouldn’t suit my taste. But as I continue to listen to this song, I find both rhythm and lyrics very interesting.
