Color Coordination

I have this thing about color coordinating.

Growing up, my sister and I shared a room, and each of us had half the closet.  We used to organize our closet by season and color, we even made up a chart of what outfits to wear so we wouldn’t be wearing the same thing twice within a two-week period.  I carefully planned what I was going to wear, making sure everything matched or colors were coordinated, right down to my shoes.

At the time it would have been nice to have had color hangers to color coordinate even more effectively, like I found on the internet:

That would have taken our color coordination to a whole new level.

Fast forward to now, our house was built in 1817 which means it was built without closets.  Back then no one had the amount of clothing we do now, and the number of shoes I currently own was unheard of.  They had their ‘work’ clothes whether it be working in the fields, in a household or otherwise, and one ‘Sunday best’ outfit for dressing up.  Much simpler times.

So the lack of closets in our house has put a major crimp in my clothing organization, forget about keeping things organized by color.  Instead, I have the one and only closet stuffed too full of equal amounts of clothes that are too small and too big, and the ones I wear regularly reside hanging on hooks of doors in the bedroom and bathroom.

It’s driving me crazy.

I’ve passed on my color coordination mode to the Princess Nagger, too – I help her pick out her school clothes each day (mostly because she’s not a morning person, and doesn’t want to exert any creative energy at that hour, it’s exertion enough just to get out of bed).

The color coordination also includes her shoes – I’ve also passed on my shoe obsession to her, mostly because if I see cute shoes for her on sale I’ll buy them (and sometimes even if they’re too big, because she’ll eventually grow into them but the price can’t be beat) and think of specific outfits those shoes will coordinate well with.

I might need some serious professional help.  But at least I’m coordinated.

Which brings me to this week’s question:

Are you color coordinated?  How does your closet stack up?

Have a great weekend!

  1. I don’t color coordinate in my closet. I do the summer/winter thing. Pants/dresses/tops. So it is organized. Just not color coordinated.
That is cool that yours is…I just don’t have the room. And my shoes are everywhere. I have so many.,.,.Ha!!!

  2. Hi Stacy, my sister and I also share a room and we always fight because of stinky clothes in the floor. I hate unorganized people since I was young. It is my pleasure that you have shared the color coordination hangers. At least now, I can easily find my clothes when I am in a rush.

  3. Hi Stacy,
I think I’m a color coordinated person in general, but you don’t want to peek into my closet 🙂 I arrange my clothes in the order of oldest to newest pieces.

  4. I keep my clothes color coordinated when I am dressed, but in my closet they are not color coordinated, but organized. I know where everything is.

    Thanks for your visit today.

  5. In a small house with horrible closets, I am most concerned about having room to get things stored away. No time or energy left after that to worry about color coordinating.

  6. Interestingly…my husband just organized my closet by color. I think it drove him crazy that I had shirts, blouses, jackets, and pants grouped together but willy nilly when it came to colors. LOL

  7. I am so uncoordinated when it comes to my closet! If there are even clothes in there to coordinate it’s a good day! 😀 The shoes though.. haha that’s different. The shoes in my coat closet are usually pretty well organized, and I have another shoe organizer upstairs for the heels I hardly ever wear. The downstairs closet has mostly flip flops, so it’s really an organization of sandals 🙂

  8. I’m more of the organization person who has to have all the hangers facing the same way, like colors and likes sleeve lengths etc. It really does make things run more efficiently.

    Have a great weekend!

  9. On me yes. In my closet? ARE YOU KIDDING? LOL Winter time I’m mostly a sweats sort of person anyway. When I go out I do use a different closet for my nice clothes, but that’s as far as I go. have a great weekend.

  10. Oh I hear your pain living in an older home without closets. What did they wear back then, one outfit per season Lol!?
Our home was built is 1891 and we installed closets when we renovated and I do color coordinate. I’m a bit of an A type who loves things organized 🙂

    Happy Friday!

  11. Sounds like I need to raid your closet. Any Blanik? 🙂

I just hang stuff. I try to put colors together but I”m not OCD about it. And seriously I don’t have that much clothes at all. Sad. eh. You’d really shake your head if you saw my closet.

  12. I arrange my closet by groups of clothing. All short sleeves together,Long sleeves together, and etc. Lightest color to darkest color. I know. Too much work. LOL.

I totally feel your pain with an older house. Our first house was built in the early 1900’s. Our bedroom didn’t even have a closet. Yikes!

  13. 1817 closets – or lack thereof, i can’t imagine. though i do like to imagine having the amount of clothes they had back then. i switch between being anti-material and being a totally material girl.

  14. I find that I have some degree of restraint when it comes to buying clothing for myself, I didnt used to have and I dont know exactly where I picked it up from but I dont have that restraint when I am buying clothing for my 7 year old. I think its because the same version of what I could buy for me is so much cheaper I feel like I am getting a real deal!

  15. Uh oh, my closet is a free for all. That would drive you crazy!

I have tagged you at my place for 11 Random Things – check it out – it’s fun. I never know who likes to participate in tags or not, so do what you like with it!

  16. Wow! That was so wonderful closet! I wish my closet looks like that too. The color coordination is great and I really love it.
