Can you believe it’s the last Monday of January already?  I sure hope 2012 doesn’t fly by as fast as years past.  Particularly if the world is supposed to come to an end at the end.  Don’t want to be speeding recklessly to an early demise.  I’m just sayin’.

The weekend, as usual, was much too short – so let’s jump right into the fun of Monday’s Music Moves Me, shall we?  This week’s theme is Broadway hits – I know a lot of people are not musical fans, so I’ll try to  keep it interesting for you. Since I need to keep it interesting for me, too.

Let’s start off with a Broadway show I would liked to have seen, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark – with Reeve Carney featuring Bono and The Edge with “Rise Above One”:

And “Boy Falls From The Sky”:

I never got to Wicked though I always wanted to go and lots of my friends have raved about how great it is, so I thought I’d pick an awesome song by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth “Defying Gravity”:

And just for fun, since the Tony Awards are to celebrate excellence in the theatre, I found this fun video of Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris starting off the Tony Awards in 2011:

One of these days I’ll get to a show. So far the only ones I’ve seen are Les Misérables and Cats (does The Nutcracker count?) Do you like Broadway shows? Have you been to any? Enjoy your Monday!

Now on to the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:

  2. Wicked is definitely one of my favorite musicals of all time. The soundtrack is outstanding and Defining Gravity gives me chills. when Elphaba flies overhead, it is an unbelievable sight! I’ve seen the show three times and vow to see it every time it comes to Tampa. That’s how much I love it.

I hadn’t seen the Hugh Jackson and Neil Patrick Harris number before, but that was awesome!

  3. Thanks for the videos! Inspiring for the last Monday of January. I get the feeling that time is flying by much faster than expected. It seems to me that it was only yesterday when we were deciding what we were going to buy for Xmas!

  4. I have not seen a show as yet, but I really hope I get to and that it will be a great one like these.

    Love your choices!

I would think the Nutcracker counts.

I just learned about CATS from my SIL. Her daughter loves it but it was too expensive for them to go.

  5. Oh, I love the music from Spider Man, I had heard it got panned by the critics yet it is still running in New York, so you can still see it.

If you have chance see Wicked and Wicked tours so maybe you can see it in a City close to you? I have seen it several times and love it every time and actually my daughter has missed going so I promised I would take her the next time.

Loved the Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris performance.

    Have a wonderful day!

  6. I’ve never heard any of the songs from spiderman before, but I love U2 and that song was fantastic.
I haven’t seen Wicked but that is one that I would really love to see and I adore Kristen Chenoweth… that song is awesome.
Thanks for including that last one with Huge Jackman and NPH – it was so good, I smiled through the whole thing, they are both marvelous performers.
    Have a great week.

  7. You MUST youtube NPH on his Tony opener, “It’s Not Just for Gays Anymore”. Hi-larious! Unless that was what you posted, then I don’t remember seeing Hugh Jackman in that performance, but I can’t see it anyway since I’m at work and this comment just took a right turn at unexplainable…
Just forget I wrote anything up there and let’s leave it at “I love Wicked!”

  8. Thanks for swinging by yesterday! I’m running a day late, but my excuse is a good one. Our youngest daughter got married yesterday thus my attention was elsewhere, as you can see. Anyhow back to your Broadway Musical picks!

LOL, what great fun the last clip was with Hugh Jackman & Neil Patrick at the Tony’s. This has turned out to be a pretty fun and interesting theme for this week’s 4M. I’ve enjoyed it a lot.

  9. Well, I’ve never been to Broadway (although I have to admit I have the dress and matching pearl earrings to go in), but I would LOVE to go! I never knew Hugh Jackman won a Tony!? Heck, I didn’t even know he could sing! It just proves my ignorance; and I thought I was knowledgeable in music! I will go and immerse in a nice half an hour of Broadway videos, now – maybe I’m in for a few more surprises. Bye! 🙂
