So here we are, six days into December and my fall decorations are still prominently displayed.  I suppose subconsciously it’s because the scarecrows really wanted to be hanging out for another week, since I was a week behind digging them out of the shed and giving them their freedom for the season.  I guess they deserve that much.

I really wish the Christmas Elves would get busy and get my Christmas decor all set up and the tree up and decorated.  They’re slackers this year.

Speaking of the tree, I think I’ll have to go with my smaller tree from last year, and set it up on some sort of raised stand in order to keep Little Dude’s paws off the ornaments.  We’ve been referring to him as “Opposite Boy” lately – ask him to do something, he does the exact opposite.  Tell him to not do something, he does it five minutes later.

Poor boy’s going to end up with just coal in his stocking at Christmas at the rate he’s been going lately.  I’m worried that he’ll pluck all the ornaments off the tree (the ones he can reach) so maybe if I elevate it we can avoid that problem.  Maybe.

I’m actually glad that our 9-foot tree is stuck in the back of the shed, so I have an excuse not to wrestle with it this year.  I did a comparison of the smaller one I picked up last year:

Christmas Tree 2009
Christmas Tree 2010

The smaller tree from last year is 3-feet shorter than the original tree.  So maybe if I set it up on my small bar table, we’ll keep little hands off the decor.  We’ll see.  It just might make it easier to pull the whole darn thing over, so I’ll let you know next week how things go.

You know how Staples is supposed to be So Easy?  Well, not so.   I ordered new laser color printer on Cyber Monday with a $150 coupon to cut the price in half.  After clicking submit to charge my credit card, the receipt showed full price.  Full price sucked out of my account.  I tried to cancel the order immediately, but the 800 number their website says to ‘call right away’ has a computer voice telling you to call during business hours.  Which I did less than 8 hours later and the human on the other end of the phone canceled the order.

Except it showed  up three days later.

I Tweeted my quandary to @Staples and was surprised I actually got a response.  The nice guy on the other end of that Twitter ID was very helpful and said a credit was issued to my account to honor the coupon.  He said the refund should show up in the next 72 hours.  96 hours later I’m still waiting.  Staples is Easy?  Not so much.  I’ll keep you posted.

I have to get my act together and organize the Christmas presents I’ve gotten to make sure I didn’t forget anything, and to get the Santa gifts wrapped and shipped to my sister in Iowa to hide, so we’re not bringing them with us and so Princess Nagger won’t bust me as being Santa.  I’m a little worried that once I ship the Santa gifts off to Iowa, I’ll jinx the weather and we’ll end up with a major snow storm that will prohibit our road trip.  If we get stuck here in PA and the Santa gifts are in Iowa, that’s going to be a tough one.  Here’s hoping Mother Nature will be kind and hold the snow until Christmas when we’re already there.

Princess Nagger was to have a half-day of school today, but I decided to make it a whole one since she has a filling that needs to be filled and she’s a wuss when it comes to the dentist.  It worked out great, it’ll be a Family Affair at the dentist office – the ancient filling I had replaced a couple of months ago needs to be replaced again because they missed a spot, so they’re doing a re-do of it (lucky me) and hubby has the rest of his teeth cleaning scheduled (he hasn’t been to a dentist in over 20 years, so they had to do his teeth cleaning in two appointments – left, then right it was that bad.  Good thing I nagged him into going).   So wish us luck – I’ll be able to make the rounds when we get back.

  1. Staples? Yikes, what a pain. Your tree looks lovely either way. Good for you for making your husband go to the dentist! My husband is a disaster about going, and recently paid the price – and I mean this literally. He had to get a tooth pulled and a bridge put in. And it cost a small fortune! Better to take care of them!

  3. I have an opposite boy living in my house too & he drives me bonkers!!! Between him & the kitty, we can’t keep any ornaments on the tree.

Hope all is well at the dentist. I’m a bit like princess, I hate going to the dentist.

  4. I didn’t even realize one of my Fall decorations was still up until I was looking for a place to stash the Shelf Elf and there it was: my Happy harvest sign. And it’ll stay there for today while the elf chills out. :0 Happy Tuesday!

  5. Roof Rack? We’ve also waited for Santa to visit us “first” and then gone on a trip. One year he came on the 23rd when my older boys were 3 and 4. You really have to think about it 24hours? that’s not veyr long for a world trip. The thing with the roof rack is that it’s “out of sight out of mind” And also you don’t over pack because you need to leave room for the bring homes.

  6. I’m glad I’m not the only one with a house adorned with Fall decor! I need an “easy” button for life…….except that it sounds like it’s not working so well. Good luck!

  7. We put our tree up on a table the last two year to keep Bruiser’s fingers out of it. This year the tree is in the front room and not as easy to access, we spend most of our time in the living room, so it’s working so far.

  8. Call me strange, but I never, ever thought about restricting our kids from accessing to the tree. I had more trouble with our cat attacking our tree than any of kids. We no longer have the cat, but not because she went biserk with the tree. My allergies got the better of me, and she had to go. Best of luck with Little Dude and the tree situation. I’m sure he’ll be a good boy. Oh you mentioned getting coal for Christmas. I made some for our kids stockings one year just for fun. I’m thinking about doing it again. Hmmm, I may write on post on this.

  9. Just put some Santa hats on those scarecrows!

Oh, no, 19 1/2 years overdue for a dentist visit!! I wonder if the discomfort is worse, or the flossing reminders!

Oh dear! good luck with the tree situation. I bet PN will police the perimeter pretty well when she is home!

  10. We blew Santa out of the water last year. They kept asking for expensive gifts that we weren’t going to get them, and then when we said we didn’t think they would get it they were all, “Oh, well I’ll just ask Santa” like he was a magic wish fairy. And there was the whole PRESENTS PRESENTS PRESENTS attitude that I did not enjoy. My poor children.

And the story about your husband at the dentist? Makes me simultaneously want to schedule a cleaning and also never go to the dentist ever again.

  11. When the boys were very little, we ALWAYS put a small tree on top of the buffet for the season. It’s just so much easier to keep it out of their reach, then when they can mind better, get a bigger tree again. I’m so glad we did it that way.

  12. I had to laugh because I could totally relate. No Christmas wreath, but there are two pumpkins still sitting by my front door. The Christmas tree is up with light and garland but no ornaments. Nice, huh? But then I’m in the same situation as you with our Little Lion Man. I’m afraid he will pull all the ornaments off the tree. So maybe we should just stick with garland and lights? lol

Sorry about the Staples situation. That totally stinks! Hope it is all resolved for you soon!

  13. I haven’t gotten any Christmas decorations out yet. My fall tablecloth is still on my dining room table. I’m hoping to get them done this week. We did get the tree over the weekend, but won’t put it up until this coming weekend.

I’d be worried about shipping the presents out west too! I’m pretty sure this will be the last year we will have a Santa believer in the house. It’s so sad.
