Can you believe that Thanksgiving is a mere two-weeks away?  Well, if you want to be technical about it, it’s really only 13 days away.  I love Thanksgiving.  It’s kind of a bummer that Thanksgiving tends to get pushed to the background now that Christmas starts loading up the shelves at or before Halloween.  I still consider Thanksgiving weekend to be the weekend that kicks off the whole Holiday season.

I love cooking up a huge feast (and devouring said feast), even though hours of preparation and cooking can be demolished in 13 minutes. I read that statistic somewhere.  The main course, of course, will be the Champagne Turkey I make each year, along with all the usual side dishes and desserts.  I’ll spend the day before Thanksgiving doing a lot of the ‘make ahead’ parts (including making pies) so there’s little less grunt work left for the actual day.

Princess Nagger’s favorite Thanksgiving pie is Pumpkin Pie – so much so, she’s asked that I make her one for her birthday next week, in lieu of an actual birthday cake.  She’ll still get a birthday cake, but that will be for her party which will be the Saturday after.  Which I still need to plan.  I guess I better get busy.

Which brings me to this weeks question(s):

Do you make or eat a big Thanksgiving feast? If so, what’s your favorite dish of said feast?

Have a great weekend!

From Kailani at An Island Life:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So on Fridays let’s take it easy on posting, too. Ask a simple question…nothing that requires a lengthy response. It’s a great way to make new blogging friends!

  1. Princess Nagger is my kinda girl!!! I love Pumpkin Pie!! So does my daughter! Hubby is a weirdo, he doesn’t like it… We fry our Turkey every year, it’s so good!!! We always have a house full of friends and its so much work but so much fun!! My fav dishes are probably the deviled eggs, (an appetizer really, there are never any left once dinner is served, LOL), the sweep potatoes and stuffing! I cant pick just one!!

  2. Sadly I’m not American so no Thanksgiving Feast for me this year.. but last year I was very lucky to join my friend and her family in Pennsylvania for my very first Thanksgiving.. it was so beautiful and I loved ALL the side dishes.. there was stuff on that table I had never seen before and more food than I could ever imagine us eating (and I was right, we ate leftovers for the rest of the week). Now that I’ve had one, I know what I’m missing 🙁
I Hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving.. eat some Pumpkin Pie for me!

  3. LOL – do you really need me to answer that question? Since I haven’t even decided what exactly I’m going to cook, besides turkey, I can’t tell you what my favorite dish will be. But I’m betting it will include sweet potatoes or butternut squash. 🙂

Did you know that it’s less than two weeks till Thanksgiving and there’s not a fresh cranberry to be found in the stores? There’s something wrong with that.

  4. I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner! We always used to go out, but over the past couple of years it just makes more sense to sit in! We just lounge around in our pjs so it’s a super relaxed day! And I find that when I cook dinner, I usually eat wayyyy less then if someone else cooks, because by the time I finish making it all, I am tired of seeing it! LOL And pumpkin pie in my favorite too! 🙂

  5. I always think of my birthday as kicking off the “season”. It’s at the end of September. Then we get swept up in getting ready for Halloween, when that’s over, we get ready for Thanksgiving, then Christmas! I love this time of the year, always with something to look forward to.

We “participate” in Thanksgiving. My MIL does the turkey, but we all bring the sides and dessert so no one has to do too much! And I am VERY thankful for that.

  6. I love Thanksgiving! We actually have two big feasts. We get together with my side of the family for a huge meal at noon. Then, we have to do it all again with my husband’s family around 3:00-4:00. I don’t think I can pick just one favorite – I love dressing, dumplings, sweet potatoes baked with marshmallows on top….MMM! I can’t wait!

  7. We do. My husband cook the “deep fried turkey” 🙂 – i can’t think of just one favorite Thanksgiving dish – I like them all 🙂 Happy Aloha Friday!

  8. I wish I could host Thanksgiving. We go to my sister-in-laws which is just a nightmare from a food allergy standpoint. She has a dairy allergy and I have already been asked if she can have sour cream. Really, you don’t know that sour cream is cream?

  9. I cook every year because my kids love my stuffing (I’m told – or they just want their mama’s cooking). I love when we all get together. Sometimes I get all of them, but they’re so widely spread. I love parsnips or white carrots as my kids call them. My dad loved them, and so do I. I guess because he liked them. I’m the only one that eats them, but when I met my hubby I found another person who liked the & that was my fabulous MIL. We shared them every years. It made us happy in our own moment together! I miss her so much. She was an Angel on earth. Oh and I love warm pies especially Pumpkin.

  10. Sadly I don’t like a lot of the traditional Thanksgiving fare. Turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes are not my thing. Give me a nice slick of lamb and a little mint jelly and I’d be in heaven. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet learned how to cook lamb. Fortunately, I’ve never had to cook my own Thanksgiving dinner yet so I don’t have to slave away all day cooking a meal I’m not going to enjoy.

  11. Make, yes, but eat, no, no longer. I love it all but ESPECIALLY the creamy mashed potatoes with way too much butter and gravy and sour cream… though mybe not all 3 at once. 😉

Totally OT, how’s it going with your Jafra stuff?

  12. That is so cute that she wants Pumpkin pie instead of a cake : )
I love Thanksgiving. Everything about it makes me smile.
A holiday to be thankful! What could be better? My favorite thing to eat is these buttery carrots my mom makes with a bread topping. Oh my goodness. I think they have a whole pound of butter. So flipping delicious!

I saw on Jill’s post that you are going to give to a family in need and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love people that make a difference : ) It is especially kind of you to help right now when you are struggling. That is very sweet.
