Happy Memorial Day! Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend. Princess Nagger only has 1-1/2 days of school left – she’s excited about what summer will bring, of course. Since Memorial Day tends to be the weekend that kicks off Summer, today’s theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me is Summer Songs or Songs of the Weather – but I’m focusing on Summer – because it’s so fun! What better way to kick off this mini music fest than with a song by Kenny Chesney, appropriately entitled “Summertime”:
Since Mother Nature has already been sending us summer heat in the spring, I’m betting we’re in for a long hot summer…so Keith Urban’s song, “Long Hot Summer” is definitely appropriate:
Need some cooling off during the Long Hot Summer? How about Two Piña Coladas:
Are you hungry? Do you need something to eat with those two Piña Coladas? How about a Cheeseburger in Paradise?
How long do we want to enjoy our Cheeseburger in Paradise and Two Piña Coladas? How about All Summer Long:
What better way to enjoy our Cheeseburger in Paradise and Two Piña Coladas All Summer Long than at our Redneck Yacht Club:
Of course you’re going to need some Water to float on:
Sounds like a perfect summer, doesn’t it?
Since today is Memorial Day, I thought I’d wrap this post up with a brief history about Memorial Day, and share a song for this special day.
Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day.
There is also evidence that organized women’s groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, “Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping” by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication “To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead”.
However, wherever or whenever it began, in honor of today I’m sharing Ronnie Dunn’s new song, Bleed Red:
Enjoy your Monday! Have a Happy (and safe) Memorial Day!
Normally I post the lyrics to go along with the songs, but with this many songs, it was making my post way too cumbersome. If you’re interested in seeing the words (particularly if you can’t view the videos) I saved them in a PDF file for you (just click on Mr. Sunshine and you’ll go straight to the PDF file):
More Monday Hops – hop along, won’t you?
