Why must Monday arrive so quickly?Β  Or is it that the weekend flies by so fast?Β  I suppose that saying is certainly true – time flies when you’re having fun!Β  Princess Nagger especially enjoyed the weekend, since she got to spend 7 hours Saturday at a friend’s house and jump in a bounce-house all day!Β  You can bet she slept like a rock Saturday night.

Mother Nature wasn’t quite as cooperative with the weather over the weekend, though, since she lost her head and gave us almost a full week of beautiful spring weather, she apparently got miffed and decided to rain on our parade for the weekend, and is belligerently going to give us rain every day this week.Β  Thanks Mother Nature (she said sarcastically).

At least today’s theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me is Reggae – that’ll bring a bright spot on a rainy day!Β  The first person I thought of for Reggae was of course the late great Bob Marley.Β  I couldn’t decide which of his songs to select for today, then decided that since it’s a dreary gray rainy day, I’d go with Three Little Birds to cheer us up:

Three Little Birds Lyrics
Bob Marley

Don’t worry about a thing
cause every little thing is gonna be alright
don’t worry about a thing
every little thing is gonna be alright

Rise up this morning
smiled with the rising sun
three little birds
pitch by my door step
singing sweet songs
of melodies pure and true
saying, this is my message to you:

don’t worry about a thing…

.

While Bob Marley is true Reggae, I’ve always associated it with one of my favorite artists, Jimmy Buffett.Β  The hubby corrected me on that, though, and said Jimmy Buffett is more Calypso than Reggae.Β  No matter, I’m still going to sing and dance along with Jimmy Buffett – his songs are way too much fun not to!Β  Besides, how can you go wrong with:

Volcano Lyrics
Jimmy Buffett

Chorus:
Now I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
When the volcano blow

Chorus:
Well let me hear ya now
I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
When the volcano blow

Ground she’s movin’ under me
Got ya tidal waves out on the sea
Sulfur smoke up in the sky
Pretty soon we learn to fly

Chorus:
Hey I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
When the volcano blow

Now my girl quickly said to me
Man, you’d better watch your feet
That lava comes out soft and hot
You better lova me now or lova me not

Chorus:
See I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
When the volcano blow

“Hey Mr. Utley.”

No time to count what I’m worth
Hey I just left the planet earth
But a’ where I go I hope there’s rum
Not to worry, more soon come

Chorus:
I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
When the volcano blow

But I don’t want to land in New York City
Don’t want to land in Mexico (no no no)
Don’t want to land in the Three Mile Island
Don’t want to see my skin aglow (no no no)

Don’t want to land in Comanche Sky park
Or in Nashville, Tennessee (no no no)
Don’t want to land in no San Juan airport
Or the Yukon Territory (no no no)

Don’t want to land in no San Diego
Don’t want to land in no Buzzard’s Bay(no no no)
Don’t want to land on no ayatollah
I got nothin’ a more to say

Chorus:
I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know where I’m a gonna go
When the volcano blow

.

Or this:

Margaritaville Lyrics
Jimmy Buffett

Nibblin’ on sponge cake
Watchin’ the sun bake
All of those tourists covered with oil
Strummin’ my six-string
On my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp they’re beginnin’ to boil

Chorus:
Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville
Searching for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
But I know it’s nobody’s fault

I don’t know the reason
I stayed here all season
Nothin’ to show but this brand new tattoo
But it’s a real beauty
A Mexican cutie
How it got here I haven’t a clue

Chorus:
Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
Now I think
Hell, it could be my fault

I blew out my flip-flop
Stepped on a pop-top
Cut my heel had to cruise on back home
But there’s booze in the blender
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on

Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville
Searching for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
But I know it’s my own damn fault
Yes and some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
And I know it’s my own damn fault

.

And here we have a Country Calypso vibe with Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett together, because it is 5 O’clock Somewhere:

It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Lyrics
Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffett

The sun is hot and that old clock is movin’ slow,
An’ so am I.
Work day passes like molasses in wintertime,
But it’s July.
I’m gettin’ paid by the hour, an’ older by the minute.
My boss just pushed me over the limit.
I’d like to call him somethin’,
I think I’ll just call it a day.

Pour me somethin’ tall an’ strong,
Make it a “Hurricane” before I go insane.
It’s only half-past twelve but I don’t care.
It’s five o’clock somewhere.

Oh, this lunch break is gonna take all afternoon,
An’ half the night.
Tomorrow mornin’, I know there’ll be hell to pay,
Hey, but that’s all right.
I ain’t had a day off now in over a year.
Our Jamaican vacation’s gonna start right here.
Hit the ‘phones for me,
You can tell ’em I just sailed away.

An’ pour me somethin’ tall an’ strong,
Make it a “Hurricane” before I go insane.
It’s only half-past twelve but I don’t care.
It’s five o’clock somewhere.

I could pay off my tab, pour myself in a cab,
An’ be back to work before two.
At a moment like this, I can’t help but wonder,
What would Jimmy Buffet do?

Funny you should ask that because I’d say:
Pour me somethin’ tall an’ strong,
Make it a “Hurricane” before I go insane.
It’s only half-past twelve but I don’t care.

Pour me somethin’ tall an’ strong,
Make it a “Hurricane” before I go insane.
It’s only half-past twelve but I don’t care.
He don’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s five o’clock somewhere.

What time zone am on? What country am I in?
It doesn’t matter, it’s five o’clock somewhere.
It’s always on five in Margaritaville, come to think of it.
Yeah, I heard that.
You been there haven’t you.
Yessir.
I seen your boat there.
I’ve been to Margaritaville a few times.
All right, that’s good.
Stumbled all the way back.
OK. Just wanna make sure you can keep it between the navigational beacons.
Bring the booze, I tell you.
All right. Well, it’s five o’clock. Let’s go somewhere.
I’m ready, crank it up.
Let’s get out of here.
I’m gone.
Let’s get out of here.

I’m outta here – Enjoy your Monday!

  1. Hey tell the hubby this is my meme & I’ll just go add Calypso — lol I knew you’d be up & running so I thought I’d stop by. Tomorrow I won’t be around until early evening because I have a Memorial to go too that’s about an hr & a half drive from me. So, hold down the fort for me girlfriend. Also, my blog may not have too much action the next few days, but I’m going to try, and predate a couple of Posts & see if that works. Goin’ in for surgery on Tuesday. See ya when I get back. Hugs & have a great day!

  2. The weekend most definitely always seems to pass way too quick. Bob Marlely awalys puts me in a good mood.

The weather aint so good in London either, but we will seemingly have sunshine and blue skies on Friday, so this will keep me in a good mood till then.

  3. Great choices. Would you believe I’ve actually listened to Three Little Birds while in front of a volcano at 5 o’clock (and drinking a Corona)? Absolute Paradise!

    Cheers!
    VB

  4. The story of your daughter’s bouncing made me laugh. I remember reading about an Olympic athlete (I think it was Jim Thorpe) who tried to keep up with a a two year old, mimicking all his movements and climbing. I think the athlete gave up after two hours. How long could we hang out in a bounce house?

Nowhere near as long as your Princess! Seven Hours? That’s got to be the equivalent of running a marathon!

  5. Oh, you’re a reggae fan – just one more reason to love you! πŸ™‚

Yeah, we’re getting all that rain, too. Just SO wrong.

  6. Love your Jimmy songs!! He’s great…Oh and I picked the same Bob Marley song..hehe! Guess we were thinking alike this morning.

  7. Morning Stacy!

Have a good one! Squishes to Princess Nagger!

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog, yeah, I’m going to have to write more about my story when my story unfolds more! πŸ™‚

  11. Love all of these! Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley are two of my favorites! And as you already know, Three Little Birds is one of my favorite Marley songs. Great picks, mama!

  12. Gotta love Bob Marley when you’re talking Reggae and while I have to agree with your hubby on Jimmy Buffett, who CARES! I agree with Dolly, this is our meme and we can let you add Calypso music also! Besides, Volcano is one of my favorite songs by him. The other two are Ok, but kind-of too commercial for my taste. My other favorite is Cheeseburger in Paradise. =)
    Have a great week.

  13. hi, thanks for dropping by my blog…anyway, bob marley on a monday is like extending the weekend one more day.:)
