Last week I started off the week after my bloggy hiatus fully intending on being back to full steam ahead, but fizzled when the cold I was fighting turned into a full blown sinus infection.  I was thankful that Princess Nagger started school on Wednesday, because that gave me time to get some much-needed naps in.  I’m not a nap person, but when I feel that bad, naps are the best medicine.  It’s hard to focus on a computer screen when your head feels like it’s going to explode, and your eyesight is blurry.  Those symptoms have thankfully mellowed out, so now my foggy state is a little less surreal and I can get back on track!

Speaking of starting school, Princess Nagger was a bit reluctant to start last Wednesday – we go through this every year, she talks about how not excited she is, because she’ll “miss (me) too much”.  You can tell there’s a lack of excitement by this First Day of School picture:

I asked her to give me a little smile, and this was the result:

A little better, but she didn’t want to show her snaggle tooth.  (in case you missed it last week, I mentioned that her second top front tooth was really loose but Princess Nagger didn’t want to have one of us pull it out for her, no matter how creative we got with our suggestions.  Since she did a Drama Queen face plant that knocked it even looser a couple of weeks earlier, it had shifted more towards the center and was literally hanging sideways.)

While we were waiting for the bus on that first morning, as usual I was sitting on the top steps of our front porch and Princess Nagger was cuddling in my lap.  She started to get bored since on the first day the wait is always longer than normal, there’s a 30 minute window of time when to expect the bus (which ended up being at the end of that window of time, just like it was last year for the entire year, so we could have technically waited until our ‘normal’ time of heading out front, but whatever.)

At any rate, she started getting goofy and hiding her face in my cleavage.  Since we were sitting out front with cars whizzing by, I was getting a little nervous about her pulling on my top as I was worried she’d inadvertently cause me to flash the world.  So I pulled up on my shirt to reduce the ever-revealing cleavage when suddenly she gasped “You just knocked out my tooth!”  I looked down, and sure enough, her tooth was sitting right on top of my left boob.   It was probably one of the few times I was actually grateful for having excessive boobage or the tooth would have been lost forever.

Snaggle Tooth no more:

She’s finally getting used to not having her two front teeth, though it won’t be long – the first big tooth is already showing through since she lost that tooth in early July.  It’s sort of a bittersweet milestone, because once her ‘big teeth’ come in, her whole facial structure will change.  Where on god’s green earth is that ‘pause’ button?!

Her first day of school went great – she was more excited about going to her second day of Second Grade on Thursday, and hasn’t been resistant to getting out of bed so early in the morning, in spite of her not being a ‘morning person’.  We have an Open House on Wednesday evening to finally meet her new teacher (they only do the Orientation for Kindergarten and First Grade – once you hit Second Grade, us parents don’t get to meet the teacher until after school has already started.)  Friday morning we have a meeting with the School Psychologist to go over the test results of Princess Nagger’s Gifted Testing – they pulled her out of class at the end of last year to take the tests, but didn’t get through them all, so they finished them up the first few days of school.  I have mixed feelings about that whole thing – that will have to be its own blog post, or I may end up way to wordy.  Or wordier than I already am.

I finally managed to get a picture of the new kitty – and the dogs have finally stopped barking at her like she’s a serious intruder every time they’ve seen her in the house:

She’s not hiding as much anymore, and getting used to the dogs – even chasing them instead of the other way around.  Princess Nagger named her Aryll – if you’re a Legend of Zelda fan, you’ll know who that is.

Speaking of the Legend of Zelda, Princess Nagger got hooked on that game while we were visiting with my sister and her boys in Iowa – so I had to buy a copy after we got home.  Luckily it’s for Gamecube since our Wii has been broken for a few months – I know, it’s an atrocity.  It put a serious crimp in my Wii Mommies workouts and I’ve gotten lazy about working out.  The Wii wasn’t reading any of the game discs at all.  It kept having an error that told me to refer to my owner’s manual, but the owner’s manual was no help.

I bought a Wii Cleaner and while that worked the first time the issue reared its ugly head, it didn’t work this time.  Luckily I had it registered with Nintendo and was able to take advantage of the extended warranty and send it in for repair at no cost.  It was finally returned yesterday good as new.  Now I suppose I don’t have an excuse not to resume my workouts.

Since Princess Nagger and I finished the Legend of Zelda just before the school year started, she was anxious to try the newer version for Wii, Twilight Princess.  Now that our Wii is back, I’m sure we’ll be spending some free time checking that game out.  I should say I’ll be playing while she watches – she tends to start a game, then ask for help, and beg me to play for her so she can watch.  I better enjoy it now, though, there will be a time when she won’t let me play the games (for her), but want to do it all by herself.  Then I won’t have a ‘legitimate’ excuse to sit and play video games for hours on end.

That’s all the randomness I have for this week – I know, I know, I probably could have gotten a full week’s worth of posts out of this one post…I’ll try to take it easier on you next week.  Apparently losing my voice and having a foggy brain for a week caused a pile up of thoughts to come crashing through once the fog lifted.

One person who doesn’t have to worry about FBS (Foggy Brain Syndrome) is Keely the The Un-Mom – or at least as far as I know.  She might have had her brain eaten by zombies.  But I think she’s safe.  For now.  But you better head over there quick before the zombies get her brain as they’ve obviously gotten mine.

  4. Oh, Sweetie. I gasped when I read the title. I don’t know what I’d do. I have a backup Wii. I’ve been doing so much yoga when I had friends over people were very impressed lol.

  5. Awwwwww I’m not looking forward to Pickleboy losing his teeth, when we told him he refused to give them up and said if the tooth fairy comes to his room he’s going to knock her one sideways. Yep that’s my boy – so sweet!

Grade 2, wow she’s tall. At least she looks tall in the pictures. She’s also adorable. I would have loved to have had a girl but alas God struck me with three boys.

    Happy RT
