Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for sassy updates.

The past 2-1/2 days have been crazy since we arrived in Iowa – pretty much as soon as we hit my sister’s driveway Tuesday evening it’s been a constant flurry of activity.

Fun activities, of course – in between driving our husbands nuts with our constant banter as we play catch-up, we’ve enjoyed special events like a Shakespeare play at the University of Iowa, checking out the Amana Colonies (and enjoying excessive amounts of fudge) and fabulous cookouts on the grill in their relaxing back yard since the weather has been absolutely perfect.

Since I keep getting interrupted every 1.2358 seconds, I haven’t had a chance to get online let alone post or visit – but I figured I better throw something up so the dust won’t collect here too rapidly.  I know I’ll already have enough dust to deal with when I get home and find out how many parties our cat Norman had while we were gone.  I thought I’d share some more pictures from our second day of travel.

We saw a lot of these:

Some of this:

And a lot of this:

Princess Nagger chose not to utilize the DVD player, and decided to create her own entertainment during the trip.  Which ended up entertaining the front seat drivers, too.

We passed a Wind Farm at one point in either Ohio or Indiana, and afterward kept seeing these going down the road from the opposite direction:

Either just before or just after we crossed the border of Iowa, there was a parking only rest area on both sides of the freeway, and we saw that three of the oversize load semis were sitting in the opposite side – so of course we had to stop and take pictures from the other side of the freeway:

With so much activity and so much fun, sleep has been a welcome reprieve – even for the Nagger:

Have a great weekend and a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

Hurray for PN making her own entertainment! I bring CDs and puppets on our road trips from Chicago to Des Moines, and that helps us get there happy!

Love the scenery and PN looks so happy to be on the trip! Without a DVD player? Sprite would be climbing the chairs in minutes!

Yep…that’s what it pretty much looks like here. FLAT and corn/soy beans. Jealous? Kinda like Green Acres.

Hey, at least you had internet and great weather :)

Have a safe rest of your trip.

Yeay for Iowa! :-) I spent my first 8 yrs in Ankeny (by Des Moines) and my next ten (graduated high school) in the small town of Marengo (by Amana). I went to college at ISU (Ames) and met my husband who is from Newton, so we still get back as much as we can. I had my first job in Cedar Rapids (by Iowa City). It sounds like your sister lives in a similar area as to where I went to high school and worked at my first job. So I enjoyed reading this post :-)

P.S. Your earlier comment from Harriet is incorrect — Iowa is NOT flat, that is a huge myth. Just ask anyone who has ridden on the famous RAGBRAI (this year’s will be held later this month), LOL! There aren’t any mountains but there plenty of hills!

You kind of lost me at “excessive amounts of fudge”. But good for PN for creating her own entertainment – WE all had to do it, right??

Living and working in the hussle and smog of a big city, those pictures sure do bring back a yearning to go back home for the ‘quality’ of life. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
