A flurry of activity ensued this weekend, the frantic cleaning mode that happens when guests are scheduled to arrive. Meticulously examining each room to ensure there is nothing for a 22 month old girl to get into trouble with, as well as making sure there are appropriate activities planned for a rambunctious 7 year old boy and his 11 year old brother.
Preparations outdoors were made as well, in anticipation for a delicious cookout on the grill. Second verse, same as the first – a repeat performance of the barbecue ribs and corn on the cob that would this time have an audience.
Shortly after our friends arrival, the big boys headed to the store to pick up the ribs, corn, mushrooms and steak – a veritable feast was in the offing. Meanwhile, my friend and I entertained the kids – her brood of 3 and my Princess Nagger. Boisterous and active, there was no quiet moment to be had for the next 8 hours. And it was good.
Also good was the deliciousness of the eventual dinner, spirits not having been dampened by the torrential downpour that took place shortly before it was time to fire up the grill. There was a steamy break as the sun broke free from the clouds, enabling the transfer of the ribs from the oven to the grill with no interference of a drenching.
Even the 11 year old boy devoured his very own steak and two ears of corn. He is, after all, a growing boy. Princess Nagger and her fellow 7 year old friend both enjoyed a section of ribs and ears of corn, anxious to return to the humid outside world to continue their backyard dinosaur exploration, and possibly a return trip to the cool wetness of the kiddie pool. They opted to flex their musical talents prior to heading back out into the humid tundra:
Good friends, good food, fun and laughter. The way a weekend should truly be enjoyed. How was your weekend?
