Quotable Sunday – Technology

Since that is what my internet connection has been this past week, and has since been cut off due to the limit being reached, I’m posting quotes this week about Technology. It’s been a frustrating week technology-wise, but since our vacation is coming to a close, we’ll be home later this week and back to ‘normal’ so I can do some catching up. And really, having limited then no internet access meant I could give some undivided attention to having some on vacation, and isn’t that what vacation is all about? 😉 Enjoy the quotes!
“All of the biggest technological inventions created by man – the airplane, the automobile, the computer – says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness.”
Mark Kennedy

“Inventor: A person who makes an ingenious arrangement of wheels, levers and springs, and believes it civilization.”
Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary

“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.”
Albert Einstein

“Technological progress has merely provided with more efficient means for going backwards.”
Aldous Huxley

“Do you realize if it weren’t for Edison we’d be watching TV by candlelight?”
Al Boliska

“Technology… is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other.”
C.P. Snow, New York Times, 15 March 1971

“The system of nature, of which man is a part, tends to be self-balancing, self-adjusting, self-cleansing. Not so with technology.”
E.F. Schumacher, Small is Beautiful, 1973

“Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain.”
J.K. Rowling

“Use of advanced messaging technology does not imply an endorsement of western industrial civilization.
Anonymous

“It is questionable if all the mechanical inventions yet made have lightened the day’s toil of any human being.”
John Stuart Mill

“We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.”
Carl Sagan

“The real danger is not that computers will begin to think like men, but that men will begin to think like computers.”
Sydney J. Harris

About Stacy (the Random Cool Chick)

After 20+ years in the Corporate World and years of infertility, Princess Nagger made her miraculous appearance and I chose to become a SAHM and WAHM - I love every minute of it. We added Little Dude through adoption, adding a whole new dimension to our family. We have an eclectic mix of pets: dogs, cats, birds and fish. I love to cook and try new techniques to turn ordinary into extraordinary. Crafty by nature, I take on a lot of unique projects and enjoy seeing the end result. My favorite, of course, is making my own wine out of fruits and grapes. Experiments with water currently underway. I blog about the joys of parenting, family, friends, life, love and anything else that strikes my fancy. I do enjoy doing reviews and giveaways for products I use, believe in and can stand behind.

  1. I have been stressing about my vacation in August and now I have some unexpected guests coming who want me to also go to Vegas for a few days with them. I am so afraid that if I don't commet people will stop following me. You really can't catch up on the reading. I don't know why I'm worried, I wouldn't stop following someone when I knew they were on vacation.
Enjoy, they don't come about that often.

  2. I loved the Mark Kennedy quote!!!

Happy Sunday and the high technology awaits for you arms wide open:)))

    Happy B-lated 4th!!!

  3. Maybe being technology free was a blessing in disguise! I'm glad you been enjoying your vacation!

  4. I like this quote…"Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain."
    J.K. Rowling

I hope you enjoyed a few stress free technology free days!

Now I need to go figure out my TOPIC for the week!

  5. Technology is one of the things that makes me doubt my doctors. When they claim that nature was mistaken, but they have the technology to overcome / correct it, I lose faith in them.

  6. Yeah, so frustrating! I couldn't even imagine having a limit. Not with all the accessing we do in this house, omg!

  7. Yeah, so frustrating! I couldn't even imagine having a limit. Not with all the accessing we do in this house, omg!

  8. Ah yes…so very true! Technology is both a blessing and a curse indeed! I especially like the quote from Aldous Huxley about a means for going backwards. I see that especially with today's children and all of the texting. It's like they've forgotten how to speak face to face and communication is no longer a valued skill. What will happen to them when they go on their first job interview? I don't think they'll sit across the desk from their potential employer and text back and forth. Hmm…great post!

  9. I know you're about to go crazy without internet connection! Ha! I hope you have a great vacation!

  10. I love technology!!! My cell phones navigator tool got me home last week when I was lost!!!

  11. I love the Mark Kennedy quote! It is so true that tons of inventions come from laziness!

  12. I'm very impressed with your blogging dedication … I never blog on vacation and you are doing it despite technological problems. At least you don't have to write a vacation post when you get home!!! : )

  13. Too funny! We were on vacation beginning of June, and there is no internet access in the cabins where we stay.

I popped open the LT just on a whim one evening and discovered an unlocked signal coming from the neighboring house on the river.

I found myself teetering atop a picnic table and the gate with the LT held out just far enough so that I could check my email. LOL!

Come to find out? They are bringing in internet, but they just hadn't gotten it to our cabins yet. And, the little store up the road offered an open signal!

Now I have a G1 Phone so I'll never go 'unwired' again!

  14. I think you did quite a lot considering you were working with handicapped Internet. I hope you had a great trip!

  15. "Technology… is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other."

    Isn't this one so true?
