You didn’t think I’d want to miss Random Tuesday Thoughts whilst on vacation did you? Of course I’m typing this Monday morning in the hopes that the spotty internet connection I currently have lasts long enough to actually get this scheduled for upload tomorrow morning… and hopefully I’ll have enough bars on the hokey internet connection tomorrow to get around to as many as I can while I’m enjoying my morning coffee before the rest of the household wakes up, while sitting out in the humidity under the gazebo listening to the relaxing sounds of nature all around. Well, that and the loud hum of the air conditioner unit as it struggles to keep the interior of the house cool. 😉

Remember how I was all excited about our friends getting broadband internet so I wouldn’t have to kick it cold turkey while we were on vacation? Yeah, about that… Apparently the ‘broadband’ internet connection is this:
Which, if I’m lucky, results in this kind of connection:
Barely one step above dial up. And only if it stays connected instead of disconnecting right in the middle of doing important stuff. Like reading blogs. Or trying to create a random post.

The weather has been HOT here since we’ve arrived – it hit over 100 degrees yesterday… I don’t even want to know what the ‘feels like’ temp was, it was HOT. Just to give you an idea, currently it’s 10:30 am and the temp right now is 94 but ‘feels like’ 106…which means it’s only going to get hotter. The air conditioning is working overtime trying to keep the interior of the house cool – but the kids tend to thwart its consistency by leaving the front door hanging open. But at least 84 degrees in the house is cooler than outside. We do spend an interminable amount outside, though, because who wants to be cooped up inside on vacation? 🙂

Travis and Elvis traveled really well on the way down – this is Travis’s first official road trip (we don’t count his trip to the vet last week to get his snip-snip done…) and I was pleasantly surprised at how well he did in spite of the long drive. Every time we stopped at a rest stop to stretch our legs and let the dogs go for a walk, he would stand still, frozen, and not want to budge. He looked petrified and kept eyeballing us as if we were crazy for being in these unfamiliar places. Elvis has been to our friends house before, so when we got here he did his usual patrol of the parameters of the property. Travis quickly settled in and the two of them take turns patrolling when they’re outside. They make sure they spend quality time inside, too, so that they can cool off in the air conditioning. More so than us two leggers do – we should really follow their lead more than we do…

We did hose them off one day to cool them off – Travis didn’t seem to mind and dried off really fast:
Elvis, on the other hand, was a bit miffed when we soaked him with the hose:

The kids have been keeping cool by swimming in the little pool that our friends just set up on Friday – Princess Nagger has been having a blast splashing around in it, she’s hard pressed to get out. Speaking of which, here they come now to jump in…too bad I didn’t bring a suit, I’d join them as it’s very hot at this moment!
Our friend Rob even jumped in with the kids at one point to cool off – they thought it was hilarious:

Later today (Tuesday), my friend is taking me to get a full body massage – as my Christmas present. Isn’t that nice of her? She told me that we have plans between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm on Tuesday…then she presented me with a gift certificate. We’re getting massages at 11:00 this morning, then having lunch – no kids, no hubby’s just us two girls. I’m going to be in seventh heaven for sure! 🙂 I’ve never had a full body massage, so this will be a wonderfully new experience for me. Apparently it can be quite addicting.

It’s very possible that we’ll also each be sporting a tasteful tattoo – the jury’s still out this morning on that one (Monday), though the place her cousin has had excellent experience at opens at 3:00 this afternoon. We might take a trip over there and see what the possibilities are. I’ll keep you posted.

I think that’s about all the randomness this heat-induced foggy brain can handle today…I think it’s about time to go indoors and cool off in the air conditioning and make sure the kids are staying out of trouble. My friend took my hubby off to the pet store this morning – she’s buying him a baby snake (corn or king) for his Christmas present. Yay. That’s going to be fun to take home to PA when we head back on that long drive.

In case you’re new here and are wondering what Random Tuesday Thoughts are, you haven’t been around much, have you? (grin!) Random Tuesday Thoughts is the brain child of Keely, the Un-Mom – she thought it would be a great idea to have a day to just be as random as you feel like, without any pressure. It’s one of my most favorite days in the blogosphere, there are some incredibly interesting random people out there and their Tuesday posts are so much fun to read. If you’re feeling random, feel free to join in the fun – head on over to the Un-Mom for some awesome randomness. You’ll be glad you did.

Enjoy the massage and lunch and let me know on the tat. I'm supposed to be getting on in a few weeks but I am not digging the pain thing….

  6. I'm so glad it's all going well on your vacation but the heat…my gosh, that's brutal!

I can't wait to see if you get a tattoo. You're gonna be so relaxed from that full body massage that you won't even feel the pain. (Well, we'll pretend)

Have fun with the girls' day out! I'm jealous!

  7. TATTOO! I have always wanted one but could never find anyone to go with me (cuz I can't get one by myself!). Enjoy your message – full bodies are the best!

  8. I know the rest of the ladies are commenting about the tattoo, but a SNAKE?!?!?! On a lengthy car trip home?!?! I hope Princess Nagger isn't afraid of them! *shivers*

  9. Sounds like a great vacation besides the horrendous heat. And, yes, full body massages are all kinds of addicting! 🙂

  10. Yikes, how can they bear to live in LA with no REAL pool? And why on earth do you not have a bathing suit with you? Aren't you guys going to venture to the beach or something?

Ah, a full body massage? You go girl! And YES!!!!! GET A TATTOO! It's painful but worth it! have fun!

    Justine 😮 )

  11. You need a suit girl, get in that water! Oh and the tat. I've got a few, and let me tell you the pain is certainly there, but with a little concentration it isn't toooo bad. For me it was always worse the few days AFTER.

  12. I loved your pictures. The pool looked so inviting. Given that it has done nothing but rain here for like 8 days, I have pool envy, I guess.

    Thanks for sharing.

  13. Have fun at that massage place and enjoy your vacation. Your kids look like they really love the pool.. I would jump in one right away if I'd had a yard to install one into!
    Anyway Happy Randomness!

  14. Snakes, tattoos, slow internet, pools, massages, sounds like a heck of a trip!! Have a blast!

  17. Sounds like your vacation is so fun. I can't wait for ours to start on Saturday:) I am so looking forward to a little 100 degree weather. (did I really say that) We have just had lousy, rainy, cool June weather. Hope your massage is fabulous!

  18. you will absolutely LOVE the massage:)

    enjoy your blistering hot vacay!

i'm counting the days down to a little bit of freedom coming to me in august…yippee!

  19. Okay…I peed myself over the broadband thing. I'm so sorry. I'm feeling for ya. Really. I'm sending a hug. And some of my broadband…

  20. That internet connection ROCKS. I walked a mile to an actual internet cafe while on vacation in the islands. I got a great connection and a great bagel for a great price. Yay! Good luck and enjoy your vacation!

  21. Oh yeah, I can relate to the heat induced stupor. That internet connection is something but I guess it's better than nothing at all. You'll just have to do all your posts offline and paste them in or something. UGh.

  22. I took a snake on the bus once. They're pretty good travelling companions, actually, if you leave them in their tupperware.

Totally jealous of the massage. And the tattoo.
