Happy May Day! It’s Friday and we can always count on Ann from ‘Ann Again and Again‘ to host the weekly Virtual Girls Night Out – Come join the fun! Everyone’s invited – even boys can join in the party… There’s great music and drinks, fun party games, and even a Mr. Linky to add your blog for VGNO visits! Ann knows how to throw a great party! 🙂

Ann is having a May Day gathering – wonder if we should crash the party? 😉 Here’s hoping her wish for Mother Nature to hold the rain for tomorrow’s festivities come true…

How about some music? JAM is having us choose which one of the guys we’d like to hang out with in concert…since one of her selections is Keith Urban, and my choice would be Brad Paisley, how about some music by both Keith and Brad:

Time For A Cocktail! In honor of the The Kentucky Derby on Saturday, the drink Ann has come up with for this week is Mint Julep it sounds quite refreshing, so I’ve made one special just for you:

What’s a party without something yummy to eat?

For an Appetizer, we’ll start with Shrimp Cocktail:

For the Main Course, how about Grilled Rack of Lamb with Pinot Noir Marinade:

And for Dessert, how about some Derby Pie:

Time To Share & Win!

This week Ann has challenged us to recall a time when we brought something to a Pot Luck only to see that no one was eating it. She’s going to be recruiting her May Day guests to read our post and select the winners. What can you win? A cool packet of flower seeds to help celebrate this May Day – very cool!

I’ve told this story before, but it bears repeating only to embarrass myself further…(grin!) I was delegated to bring Pumpkin Pie to our family Thanksgiving Dinner one year. I planned to make it the night before so it would be ultra fresh for the dinner. The day before Thanksgiving I came down with a doozy of a sinus infection – I worked all day and was miserable, wishing I could go home and hide under the covers. When I got home from work, I remembered I was supposed to make the Pumpkin Pie – I figured since it’s an easy recipe, I’d whip one up then get to bed. I quickly put it together and spaced out in front of the TV while the pie baked – since my sinuses were all stuffed up, I couldn’t smell anything and had no idea anything was amiss.

The next day I arrived at our family Thanksgiving Dinner still worse for wear but not wanting to miss out on the festivities. When it came time to dig in to the Pumpkin Pie, those who chose that over apple pie took one bite…and promptly set their pie aside, uneaten. I couldn’t figure out what the problem was until I took a bite – it was horrendous! It wasn’t until I got home that night that I realized what the problem was…instead of measuring the spices that go into the pie with a teaspoon, I had accidentally measured with a tablespoon…talk about overkill on the spices! It was years before my dad was willing to attempt to eat any of my pies – pumpkin or otherwise – after that fiasco.

Oh, and JAM? My pick for the concert is Brad Paisley… 😉

Hop on over to Ann’s to join the Virtual GNO and check out all the other cool bloggers participating in this very special event. Anyone can join in the fun… Sign Mr. Linky and visit those that sign-in! Go blog-hopping! And most importantly, Have Fun! Well? What are you waiting for? 🙂

I'll have a piece (or two, or three) of the Derby Pie AND a slice of pineapple. I understand pineapple has reverse calories.

Maybe I'll have a whole pie & several pieces of pineapple!

  6. Mmm…those look so yummy! Glad the pumpkin pie isn’t in that list…lol! Must have been one heck of a pie! I love Brad Paisley too, I may join you after my Jason Aldean concert =) Happy VGNO!

  7. I love Brad Paisley. I was lucky enough to see him sing when I took Haley to see the Jonas Brothers and Friends in Concert in Nashville.

  8. Happy VGNO. I just knew you would have the food! I didn’t feel like cooking today in virtual life or real life, so I sent everyone your way for food to go with their adult beverage!

Have a good weekend! How is the Princess this week?

  9. I’ve been out all day and am now hot and sweaty from packing up for a booth at the Rose Fest tomorrow. That ice cold Mint Julep is looking mighty nice right now. So does that rack of lamb and mashed potatoes!!! Gee, I must be hungry!!

  10. Oh sure, you sit there all night, drinking mint juleps and drooling over hot country guys, while I was stuck in Walmart (or hellmart in this case) for 2 hours. Ugh. Someone just shoot me now!

    Justine 😮 )

  11. Sorry about the pie! However, the spread for VGNO looks wonderful!

    Have a good one!

PS The mint julep looks delicious!

  17. Pass the Julip over….and the shrimp.

You’re right about the weather. It’s been too goofy around here too.
Hey- when are you going to post your hubby’s band?

    Take care 🙂

  18. I love Keith Urban & Brad, I've never had a kentucky derby I'm going to have to try one. Sounds like you ladies had a fun time as always. 🙂

  19. I did the same thing with chocolate chip cookies once! I added a TBL of salt instead of a TSP. Ha! They were terrible!

  20. I love that story! I am known around her for my colossal baking failures. It’s good to know I’m not alone..

BTW if you get a chance to visit my site, I have some blog bling for you 🙂
