Welcome to Fitness Friday, brought to you by:

This week is extra special – in honor of the WiiMommies Twitter Party happening tomorrow, many of us participated in the #wiimoms Blog Swing. This week, I have the honor of posting Aunt LoLo’s Fitness Friday update! You’ll see my update over at Real Life Sarah’s Blog, and some of your favorite Fitness Friday participants are being guest hosted on various other blogs as well…so much fun! And without further ado, I present to you, Aunt LoLo:

Hi! I’m Aunt LoLo, and I’m a Wii Fit Mommy. I joined Wii Fit Mommies to motivate myself to get on my Wii Fit at least five times a week and work towards losing the flub I gained during my two pregnancies. My oldest is 2, my youngest is three months old. I can be found crafting at www.LoLo-Craft.blogspot.com, cooking at www.ChowReview.blogspot.com and blabbing about life in a Eurasian family at www.TeahLo.blogspot.com.

I was So Excited when I found out I got to Swing on over and guest post here at Stacy’s blog! I love reading about the little Princess Nagger…if ONLY for that name. I know a few little girls who deserve the title….

Moving on.

I’ve been wracking my brain all week, trying to come up with a fitness post that would be worthy of this cute li’l blog…and kinda drew a blank. So. I’m going to just impart a bit of my wisdom, and hope it helps someone out there! It’s a total modge podge…but, ’round my blog, we just call it Doing It LoLo Style.

First, a few tips for Boxing on the Wii Fit: When you are boxing, you can get two points for each punch, instead of one, if you time it just right. You must hit RIGHT on the beat. The easiest way to do this is to watch the numbers in the upper right part of the screen (the score). It will pulse on each beat. (If you try to time your punches to the voice of the Trainer, you’ll be off. If you try to time it to his punches, it’s even worse!) Time your punches to that, and you’re in business!

Next, the Dodge move. Oh, this took me WEEKS to get down. The easiest way to perform the Dodge move is to hold the Remote and Nunchuk close to your body, upright, and then lean your torso one way, then the other (whichever way the trainer says to go first). Got that? For the longest time, I would dodge and dodge and dodge…and the Mii wouldn’t move! I was holding the remote and nunchuk wrong.

Finally, make sure you are holding the Wii Remote down by the buttons, not up near the trigger (B button). If you choke up too far, the Wii won’t register your punches, and that’s just Not Cool.

Now, a tip for Aerobics: To get Perfect on your Aerobics steps, make sure that the foot not stepping onto the board is firmly planted on the floor. The board can’t see you, it can only feel your weight move around. If not enough weight is on your back foot, or your timing is off, you’ll get an OK or a Miss. This is especially important when you’re stepping off. Make sure the foot still on the board is holding half your weight, otherwise you’ll score a bunch of Misses, and again – that’s just Not Cool.

Raise your hand if one of your New Year Resolutions was to Lose Weight. Hmm…yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s pretty much EVERYONE. How are you doing with that? What have you found that works for you?

Here’s what works for me – I found a bunch of friends who also wanted to lose weight, and we’ve got a little competition going. Not so much a competition as a support group, really. Every Friday, everyone in the group must report back to me. They report how much weight they lost, or if they had a bad week, or if they didn’t work out…whatever. The e-mail goes to everyone in the group, and we all write back and congratulation, or commiserate, as the situation requires. So far, our 10 ladies have lost nearly 60 pounds and I couldn’t be prouder! The kicker – when a member of the group reaches their goal, the other members of the group have pledged and promised to send them a present. Pretty sweet, right? I mean, who doesn’t want 10 presents, just for reaching a goal?! (We’ve promised not to send each other chocolate, though. Seems like that might just defeat the point. hehe) One of our gals is about four pounds away from her goal, so we’ve all got our thinking caps, coming up with great gifts for her.

One last tip – Dress your body. No matter what size, weight or shape you are, make sure you have at least one outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks. I know it’s tempting to keep wearing smaller sizes that you’ve outgrown – what’s the point of spending money on clothes that you’re only going to wear for a few months? (Go find a pregnant woman and ask her that question – see what she says!) Getting up in the morning and putting on clothes that are either the wrong shape, size or color is not going to motivate you to back away from those cookies and get on the Wii Fit, treadmill or anything else! Maybe it’s just me, but when I look in the mirror and see a schlump, the first place I head is the cookie jar, to make myself feel better. Get a cute pair of jeans, a top in that perfect shade, throw on a little make up, and you’re good to go!

Don’t have time for make up? Here’s a freebie tip for you – Line your upper lid in a smokey grey, throw on some black mascara, and then find an eyeshadow that’s just a little lighter than your own skin tone, and sweep that along under your eyebrows and in the inner corner of your eye. The lighter shade will perk up your eyes, and having it outline your eyes will make it look like you put a darker shade on the middle of the lid. Pretty slick, eh?

I hope these tips have helped you out! And, now, back to Stacy!

(Thanks, Stacy, for letting me swing on over to your blog. It’s been great, but now I’ve got to be getting home.)

  1. Great guest post! The stepping tips will come in handy here since I’m always off balance when I do the step aerobics.

  2. What a great post! Great information for the boxing – one of my favorite activities on the WiiFit. Thanks for the make-up tip. : ) With the nicer weather and getting out more, I’m making an effort to put something on my face, not just nude and a ponytail.
    Have a great weekend!
