randomtuesday
Keely over at The Un-Mom has a fun weekly Random Tuesday thing going…it’s Tuesday and you know the drill…I love Randomness! πŸ˜‰

The Princess Nagger is much better – thank you very much for all your well wishes! She was still talking like she had marbles in her mouth on Saturday, and the swelling hadn’t gone completely down…and she was a bit distressed that her mouth ‘leaked blood’ again overnight. We had been invited over to Grammy Joyce & Papa Eddie’s house for a visit, but we rescheduled it to Sunday afternoon instead. Needless to say, as it got closer to bedtime on Saturday, the Princess Nagger was getting a little paranoid:

PN: “But what if I bleed again?”

Me: “You probably won’t bleed again.”

PN: “But what if I do?”

Me: “It’s really no big deal, honey, if you do then I’ll just pack your mouth with gauze for an hour like I did this morning, and the bleeding will stop again, no problem. I forgot to remind you to be careful when brushing your teeth – don’t brush that area for a couple of days, but definitely brush all your other teeth.”

PN (with a look of horror on her face): “But Mama, I don’t want to get cavities!”

Me: “You won’t as long as you brush your other teeth – just make sure you avoid where you got your tooth pulled and you’ll be fine.”

PN (gingerly holding her hand over the swollen side of her face): “OK, I will only brush where my hand isn’t. That should be OK.”

As I tucked her into bed a short time later:

PN: “I don’t want to have to reschedule again.”

Me: “Reschedule what?”

PN: “Uh, Hello?! Going to Grammy Joyce’s house – if I bleed overnight we’ll have to reschedule again, and I don’t want to do that.”

Me (laughing): “Not to worry, we won’t reschedule again – they’re looking forward to seeing us, and they have a couple of boxes of Asian Pears to give us so we can make jam with them.”

PN: “Oh good. It would make me sad to reschedule again. But what if I bleed again?”

Me: “You probably won’t, don’t worry about it.”

The next morning she was all happy when she came downstairs:

PN: “Look at my face, Mama! No blood!”

She still had some swelling and still talked like she had marbles in her mouth, but she was determined not to ‘reschedule’ our visit. She didn’t eat much of the wonderful dinner they gave us, though, but refused to admit that her mouth still hurt – she sure was a trooper! Yesterday she still wasn’t feeling all that great, which was obvious when I gave her the option of going to school or staying home…whenever she’s had a bad cold or hasn’t felt well, I’ve given her that option and she’s always insisted on going to school. So I knew she still wasn’t feeling her ‘normal’ self when she chose to stay home. But she is looking forward to going back today to see all her friends and classmates. She was happy to report yesterday that she could chew again. πŸ™‚

Speaking of classmates, she came home last week and mentioned that one of her classmates wasn’t going to be at school for a while…when I asked why, she said: “Because ‘A’ is having brain surgery and going to Disney. She’s going to come back to school even smarter! Oh, and she’s going to have a nice new hair cut.” Awwwww! I thought it was great the teacher explained it that way to her classmates, Princess Nagger explained it so ‘matter-of-factly’ and is excited for ‘A’ to come back and show off her new haircut and ‘brain power’. πŸ™‚

Speaking of brain power…I try to get hubby to take daily vitamins…I mentioned it again last week when he was complaining about feeling like he was coming down with something. Being ‘literal man’, he wanted to know what the benefits really are of taking a multivitamin. I told him it’s necessary since he doesn’t eat as nutritionally as he could or should (chocolate will only supply so much of the daily requirement), and told him to face the fact he’s getting old (snicker!), and with not eating ‘right’, he really should supplement with a daily vitamin. So he went and bought himself some ‘manly’ vitamins and proceeded to take SIX of them all at once…I asked why he would take 6 instead of the ‘1’ as in ‘One-A-Day’, especially with him being so literal and all…he said he figured he needed to ‘catch up’ from not taking them for so long… πŸ™‚

Speaking of hubby and his brain – gotta give him kudos for trying to fix our furnace himself. He’s not usually the ‘handyman’ kinda guy, but he is an Engineer and the Program Director for the Heating/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration program (along with a few others) at the technical college he works at, so at least he does know something about the mechanics of the furnace because he has to. Unfortunately it appears that the computer board that ‘runs’ the furnace got fried, thus rendering the furnace inoperable. Luckily we have special insurance that covers all our major appliances, so no matter what the cost of repair (or replacement if it comes down to it), we will only be on the hook for $60.00. Boy, are we glad we have that insurance! The furnace guy is here right now replacing the computer board – here’s hoping it does the trick, it’s amazing how cold the house felt even at 60 degrees…it would have been much colder if we didn’t have the pellet stove in the living room! Of course a few months from now we’ll no doubt be wishing for cooler weather…Murphy’s Law. πŸ™‚

Speaking of weather, apparently the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting that we’re supposed to have a huge blizzard here in March. The way our weather has been going this year, I suspect that if we don’t have a blizzard, it will be the polar opposite and will feel like summer temps instead…I’ll keep you posted. πŸ™‚

Blogger was apparently doing some funky stuff yesterday (yeah, I know – so what else is new?) which caused some consternation amongst followers – as in, dropping followers off our ‘followers’ list. Elizabeth over at Nut in a Nutshell had a great post yesterday ‘explaining’ it, so if you’re still confused, hop on over there and read all about it. I was happy to see 7 of the 20 followers that ‘disappeared’ have reappeared this morning…hopefully the remaining ones will mysteriously reappear soon… πŸ˜‰ Now if only they would make a change to their limit of how many people you can follow – maxing out at 200 is not conducive to being able to make someone’s day by following them if you already follow 200. I’m just sayin’. πŸ˜‰

  1. that was an amazingly random post :)… so glad to hear about the pn improvements… and i am keeping my fingers crossed for your furnace!!! if it doesnt kick on, feel free to bundle up and trek through the woods and over the hills to my house ;).

  2. Wow, that’s a lot of thoughts in one day and it’s not even 9am yet. Give me more, give me more. Have a great day Luv.

  3. Glad Princess is feeling better! I NEED more info on that insurance. Where do you get it? How expensive is it? I think I need it. πŸ™‚ Have a great day!

  4. Oh, Blogger was having problems…well that explains where my hundreds of followers went! πŸ˜‰

Great Random Thoughts! Hope hubby comes down soon off his ONE A DAY high! πŸ™‚

  5. Wow, PN is such a trooper, indeed! I think I would be complaining about it more, but jam? I’ll buck up for that! Happy Randomness!

  6. Glad to hear the kiddo isn’t leaking blood any longer. Yikes!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of pear jam, that sounds amazing! Holy cow, I’m going to have to think about trying to figure out how to make that, look into how to make that, and give up on making that when I realize that “making that” requires more than “wishing really hard for that to appear in my fridge”. I’ll live vicariously through your pear jam experience.

  7. Glad to hear Princess is doing better. Jam????? You are so motivated. But you always were. I still remember those homemade dipped candies you made in High School.

I can totally relate to the Engineer thing. Kim headed up the project to design the Statton Island ferry – but the guy can’t even put together a book case from Walmart.

    Good luck on the furnace!!

  8. That explains a lot. I had some problems following people yesterday and know I was already following them. Thanks for the info. Poor princess. First the eye now the teeth. Geez louise. Miss your face! MWAH!

  9. Blogger was all wacky yesterday, there are a few blogs that I still can’t comment on today. So weird.

I’m glad to hear PN is getting better. That’s so cute about her worrying about cavities if she doesn’t brush that area.

I never remember to take my vitamins and my husband even leaves them out for me. No wonder I have no energy.

    Happy randomness!

  10. He’s a brave man. Anytime I try to fix something it’s a huge project that end up making things worse. I’ve learned to outsource…

  11. Good to hear that your little girl is doing better. I didn’t know that blogger had a limit as to how many blogs you could follow. But it makes sense. I sure wish all of my followers would return soon!

  12. I’m so glad Princess is well πŸ™‚ and that she doesn’t have to reschedule her busy schedule πŸ™‚ LOL

  13. I am so glad to hear that PN is feeling better. That is a lot for a little mouth to go through.

I can never remember to take vitamins every day. Can I just take all of them once a week:)?

You definitely need to share more about your appliance insurance. It sounds like there is a lot of interest.

  14. What a brilliant teacher to think of explaining it that way! And how cute your daughter was worrying about bleeding.

  15. What kind of record does the Farmer’s Almanac have for accuracy? A blizzard in March is not cool. Spring fever has hit big time by then!

You’re lucky with the insurance. Every time we think we’re covered for something, whatever went wrong was one of the exclusions.

  16. I’m glad the princess is feeling better, I’m glad you can get your furnace fixed without spending a fortune. And I’m gonna go make sure I didn’t fall of your followers list. I fell of some peoples and they thought I was mad at them lol. I lost 7 of my own…but not sure who. Stupid blogger!

  17. I’ve never given the kids the option to stay home from school- I’m afraid it would backfire on me.

  18. Pear jam – nom nom!!

I’ve had your site open on my screen since this morning. I got distracted by the opportunity to lay down.

  19. LMAO at your husband taking six one-a-days to catch up. Hope your furnace is fixed in time for the blizzard, yikes!

  20. HAHAHA
That was a lot of randomness!
Your hubby is funny. Six??? He needed to take 600 to catch up!
Glad the Princess is feeling a bit better!

  21. First off, I’m glad the princess is better! It’s so hard when they are hurt, sick or in pain! I hope your furnace keeps working! Second, um, how do I say this nicely? Okay, what is up with the girl in the thong on your homepage? She really shouldn’t be wearing a thong to begin with. Maybe Granny panties or something. Am I the only one that noticed that? I may have a touch of ADD.

  22. That was awesome.

I’m in an odd mood right now, ’cause “Look Mama! No blood!” cracked me up. I’m really glad princess is feeling better!

  23. @annie kelleher: Thanks, Annie! PN is doing much better today – she even went to school! WooHoo! πŸ™‚ And the furnace is FIXED! We have heat! πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for the offer – had the furnace guy been unsuccessful, I just might have taken you up on it! (grin!) πŸ˜‰

    @Angela: LOL Angela! I can be a bit long winded…heh, heh! πŸ˜‰

@Upstatemomof3: Thank you very much! Look at the end of my replies here and you’ll see the info – I’ll also try to email you. πŸ˜‰

@The Obnoxious SAHM: Awww, thanks so much! πŸ˜‰

@Peggy: It’s nice to know there’s a ‘logical’ reason for the disappearing act, isn’t it? πŸ˜‰ LOL!! The One A Day High! LOL! Yeah, he was a bit concerned with how bright yellowish orange his pee was the next day…D’OH! πŸ˜‰

@Sprite’s Keeper: LOL! Bucking up for jam…heh, heh!

@Megryansmom: LOL! Thanks so much! Tried to get hubby to bring donuts home for Fat Tuesday, but he forgot…probably a good thing… πŸ˜‰

@Cat: LOL Cat! You’re too funny – yeah, I guess it does take a little bit more than ‘wishing really hard’…(grin!!) Maybe I’ll have to do a giveaway when it’s all done… πŸ˜‰

@Scary Mommy: You won’t regret it…seems to work wonders for a lot of people! πŸ˜‰

@Lady Bug: Yes, PN is definitely doing much better… πŸ™‚ Yeppers, I’ll be making jam – aren’t you jealous of standing over a hot stove? (grin!!!) I still make the candy – now I make ’em with alcohol… πŸ˜‰ Engineers are a unique ‘breed’, aren’t they? My BIL is one, too – funny how their minds are so genius, but when it comes to common sense…eh, not so much…(grin!)

@Julie@Cool Mom Guide: You’re very welcome for the info, Julie! Blogger has been definitely causing headaches the past couple of days… Poor Princess is right – first the black eye, now the tooth issues…then I dropped her on the way to bed last night when I tripped over a stool she left out…couldn’t see it in the dark…Poor thing has had a rough time the last few months! LOL!! Your comments always make my day! MWAH! Right back atcha! πŸ˜‰

@Casey: Yeah, wacky for sure – I couldn’t comment on a few blogs today, too – so I saved my witty reply on a windows notepad…and wouldn’t you know it, my computer had an error and had to reboot – deleting those notepad notes I had…it was an uphill battle to get anything done today! πŸ™‚

Yes, PN is definitely getting better…I was surprised she was concerned about cavities because of not brushing for one night – but I guess she had to learn the hard way by only doing it halfway before and ending up with cavities…at least she learned! πŸ˜‰

That’s too funny your hubby leaves your vitamins out for you and you still forget to take them…heh, heh! That’s what hubby does, too – forgets to take them even if I leave them out for him…I thought about dissolving them in his coffee, but he might think I was trying to poison him, so I figured I better not… πŸ˜‰

@Ryan@Cool Dad Central: LOL Ryan! Yes, you could say he’s ‘brave’…sure, we’ll go with that… πŸ˜‰ Usually hubby ends up having to ‘outsource’, too – or I end up finishing up whatever project gets started… LOL! πŸ™‚

@Elle: LOL! Yeah, that’s what I told him…not gonna work that way… πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the well wishes on PN! πŸ˜‰

@Cascia: Thanks very much Cascia! Yes, Blogger limits you to 200 that you can follow…there’s no limit on how many can follow you, but you can only follow 200. I hope you get your missing followers back soon – and hope mine find their way back, too! πŸ™‚

@Firefly: Thanks so much, Firefly! LOL! Yeah, I think she’s happy she doesn’t have to reschedule her busy schedule…(grin!) You know, it did sound like she was thinking with her mental calendar “Hmmm…if I reschedule this, then I’ll have to move that…no, no, no, that won’t work!” something like that…heh, heh! πŸ™‚

@Anne: Thanks so much, Anne! It is a lot for a little mouth to go through…I felt so bad for her! LOL! According to my hubby, apparently you can…but beware the very bright yellow/orangish pee the next day…(snicker!) I’m putting the insurance details at the end these replies – and I’ll try to email you, too! πŸ™‚

@Debbie: That’s what I thought, too! She loves her teacher (and I love how wonderful she is with PN and all the kids). Worried about the bleeding was pretty funny coming from such a tiny munchkin! πŸ˜‰

    @Cameron: ROTFLMAO! That’s too funny, Cameron! πŸ™‚

@blueviolet: According the the ‘locals’, the Almanac has been pretty accurate over the years…but I’ll believe it when I actually see it… Apparently it has snowed excessively in March in the past… πŸ™‚

Yes, this insurance is great – it’s specifically for major appliances and not through our home owner’s insurance. We never knew it existed until it was offered with the appliances that came with the house we bought – we added our fridge we bought when we moved in here. πŸ˜‰ I’m adding the info at the bottom of this long reply… πŸ˜‰

    @kathy: They do, don’t they? Yeah…brave…sure, we’ll go with that…(snicker!)

@nikkicrumpet: Thanks so much, Nikki! I’m glad we don’t have to pay a fortune to have the furnace fixed, too…glad hubby decided to continue the insurance when it was up for renewal after the first year – it’s come in handy! πŸ˜‰ Hopefully the follower mess will be straightened out SOON! Thanks for checking your status with me… πŸ˜‰

@Sammanthia: LOL Sammanthia! I have a feeling it might backfire on me in the future, too…Princess Nagger is already saying she’s not looking forward to 1st grade next year for some reason… πŸ˜‰

@Keely: I’ll save you a jar or two of the pear jam! πŸ˜‰ That’s too funny you had my site open on your screen all day – I’ve done that, too! πŸ™‚ Except it’s usually because I get distracted by PN or HH – or any number of things…heh, heh!

@mrsbear: I laughed at him, too! πŸ˜‰ Furnace is fixed – now that it is, maybe Murphy’s Law will make the blizzard land elsewhere next month… πŸ˜‰

@Minxy Mimi: I am full of it, aren’t I? Randomness, that is…(evil grin1) Yeah, that’s what I told him – that he would have to take a whole lot more to ‘catch up’, but he better be sure all his personal accounts and things are in order before he attempts it…(snicker!) Thanks, the Princess is feeling better – now if she would stop being such a cling on so I could get some blogging done! (grin!!)

@Stacy: I absolutely agree, Stacy – it’s so hard when they’re hurt or sick or in pain…we hurt for them! I’ve got my fingers crossed that the furnace will work for a long time… πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the heads up on that funky ad – I don’t have control over what appears there, so I’ve moved her sorry ass down to the bottom of the page. I’m sure I’ll get an email from Spott, because the ad is supposed to be ‘above the fold’ – but not if it’s going to have something like that in the ad! πŸ™‚

@FoN: Thanks, FoN! That cracked me up when she said it, too – she was all proud, and it reminded me of the ‘Look Ma, no hands!’ thing…heh, heh! πŸ™‚

    ************************************
For those asking about the insurance, here you go:

It’s through a company called American Homeshield (www.americanhomeshield.com). It’s not part of our homeowner’s insurance (we have State Farm for that), it’s specifically for major appliances. We pay $30 a month for coverage – it covers the stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, hot water heater, furnace, plumbing, electrical work.

If anything goes wrong with any of the above, you call (or submit a work order online) for the problem, and they are great about having someone either come out that day or the next morning. We had to use it when the stove that came with the house died just before Thanksgiving the first year we were in the house – it needed a computer board replaced to have the stove function which normally would have been a $400 repair bill, but our co-pay at the time was $50.

Then a couple of years later, our hot water heater went out – that actually had to be replaced because the one that came with the house was so old…so we got a $900 hot water heater for a co-pay of $55.

And apparently the computer board that got replaced this morning would have been a $400 repair, that only cost us $60. πŸ™‚ So the $30 a month premium is a good investment on the appliances. Now we’re hoping that our dishwasher breaks soon so we can have it replaced for $60 because it really sucks and you pretty much have to wash the dishes before you put them in there… πŸ™‚

  24. See..now that is a good teacher!!! When my son got sick (cancer survivor 6 years!!) anywho, his teacher actually called me to make sure he wasn’t going to get the other kids sick….I shit you not!!! Needless to say….he missed most of that year…stupid teacher!!!

  25. No blizzards!

Yes, vitamins can do wonderful things!

    Glad Princess is getting better.

Really sweet how her teacher explained the classmates surgery.

  26. Let me know if something works to get Hubby to take his vitamins! I can’t get B to, no matter what I do…

  27. @Heather: The Princess Nagger’s Kindergarten teacher is a sweetheart – I love her as much as PN loves her! πŸ˜‰ That really sucks about your son’s teacher – people can be so clueless and inept sometimes, can’t they? WooHoo on your son being a cancer survivor 6 years!! ((HUGZ!!))

@Yaya: LOL Alicia – from your lips… πŸ˜‰ Yes, vitamins can do wonderful things…as long as you actually take them, and don’t over do it…heh, heh! Thanks, Princess Nagger is definitely back to her old silly self! πŸ˜‰ I agree – I think it’s cool the class is excited for the classmate to come back ‘smarter’. πŸ™‚

@LiLu: LOL! I will let you know, LiLu…I just asked hubby if he’s been taking his vitamins, and he said “Yeah, I have…got ’em sitting right here…” (next to his computer). Maybe that’s the trick – next to where he spends a lot of time… πŸ˜‰
