randomtuesday
Keely over at The Un-Mom has a fun weekly Random Tuesday thing going…it’s Tuesday and you know the drill…I love Randomness! πŸ˜‰

I’m a bit late getting my Random Tuesday Thoughts put together…as some of you know, Hovering Hubby decided at the last minute to stay home yesterday. It was his ‘late’ day, where he’d be at work from 9:00 am until 8:30 pm, so I don’t blame him for wanting to take the day off – his sinuses are bugging him, and I’d much rather he take a day off rather than get full-on sick and mope around a lot more than he did yesterday… πŸ™‚ Making his ‘last-minute’ decision (as in, moments before he was going to be heading out for work) threw my mental plans out the window. You know, blogging grocery shopping and cleaning – because when he’s home hovering, I can’t seem to get anything done. Especially when I start doing something, like blogging cleaning, he’s asking every 5 minutes “Is there anything I can do to help?” even when every time the answer is “No, thanks.” Of course when I do give him something to do to get him out of my hair, like “Sure, you can take the garbage out” his shoulders get all droopy and he comes back with the “Gee, thanks!” and begrudgingly takes out the garbage. So when he gets really annoying with his every 5-minute offer to help, I’ll put him to work scrubbing toilets. That’ll teach him! πŸ˜‰

Of course when I decide I’d rather not have the every 5-minute offer of help, we’ll both hang out on our respective computers. Which will then initiate the “Are you doing OK? You seem awful quiet today…” Um, well yeah, I’m reading… And of course he’ll decide to offer up a bunch of small talk – either when I’m reading or when I’m clearly typing away like a madwoman…I don’t relish having to re-read the same paragraph 5 times, and when he interrupts me when I’m typing, my brilliant train of though disappears…too bad he can’t see the ‘poof’ above my head when that happens… When he’s home he interrupts me way more than the Princess Nagger does… πŸ™‚

Speaking of the Princess Nagger, I think I’ve created a monster. A cute little blue-eyed blonde haired monster. We have a Summer House out back – since our house was built in 1817, they obviously didn’t have all the amenities we do today – you know, electricity, running water, or a kitchen. Instead, they built a separate building out back that was referred to as the ‘Summer Kitchen’ back in ‘the day’, complete with a walk-in fireplace. Well we’ve turned that building into our hang out with our computers and hubby’s music studio. Eventually we’ll turn it into a full fledged Media room. I conveniently have a laptop, so I bring it back and forth between the House and the Summer House (we’re only talking maybe 10 or 20 feet from the back door of the house) – when hubby’s home we’re usually hanging out in the Summer House – the Princess Nagger spends time between being in the house playing with her toys, playing a video game, watching some of her favorite shows learning how to use the DVR, or hanging out in the Summer House with us getting us to play all sorts of games with her, or playing her own games on her computer.

Still with me? Good…I’m getting to the ‘monster’ part…(grin!) We have a 2-handset cordless phone – obviously one phone in the house, the other in the Summer House. I taught the Princess Nagger how to use the intercom feature on the phone, so if she’s in the house while we’re in the Summer House, she doesn’t have to stand at the back door and yell loudly for one of us to come in and assist her with something (you know, like why did the channel change on her automatically…(because Mama’s taping 2 shows at once)). I’ve mentioned before that she’s got a set of lungs on her, so when she stands at the back door and yells for us, I’m sure it gives the neighbors something to talk about. πŸ˜‰ Anyhoo… She has been over-using the intercom feature…she’ll call just to chat. Endlessly. About nothing in particular. Just randomness (yeah, I know what you’re thinking – like mother like daughter, right? *grin!*)

Of course she decides to call and talk randomness when I’m busy doing something important…you know, like blogging. So I’ll end up putting the phone on speaker phone and doing the old ‘Uh huh…really? Oh, hmmmm’ stuff…while I try to concentrate on the cool blogs I like to read. When I laugh at a post I’m reading, she thinks I’m laughing at her latest ‘knock-knock’ joke she just told for the umpteenth time…so that fuels her into continuing on her random chit-chat. We’re doomed. When she reaches her teenage years, we better have a whole lot of money saved up to bankroll her phone. Maybe we’ll stick with pre-paid just to maintain a limit. We’ll see what the technology is by the time she reaches her teenage years. At least I have a while to wait until that time…though if I blink right now that time might be gone.

Speaking of cell phones…hubby and I have pre-paid ones. Not because we can’t afford or don’t have the credit for a ‘regular’ cell phone, but simply because we don’t use them often enough to justify having a contract with a phone. But I am jonesin’ to get a ‘cooler’ phone – I do like to text with my friends, though it’s more likely I’ll email. I’m just not a ‘phone person’ – I don’t like to sit and chat on the phone endlessly, I prefer to type out long email messages or blog posts instead. πŸ˜‰

Speaking of Blog Posts – I’m approaching my 200th post! Sheesh, I guess I do have a lot to say… πŸ™‚ I breezed right on past my 100th without any fanfare, guess I’ll have to figure something interesting or cool or random to do for my 200th post. I’m also gearing up for my first official ‘giveaway’ – details will be forthcoming when I get it all figured out. πŸ˜‰

Speaking of ‘giveaways’ – I totally forgot to mention the cool and awesome giveaway I got from Julie at The Cool Mom Guide (I LOVE her!) – I won the Superbowl giveaway, for the ‘Tide To Go Mini’. This is what I thought I was getting in the mail:

But the awesome people over at DeVries Public Relations sent this:

A Martha Stewart recipe box with a bunch of great recipe cards, and 10 Tide To Go Mini’s! Ten! Talk about a great surprise!

I also need to post a ‘Pay It Forward’ post – I participated with another blogger who sent me something cool, so now I’m coming up with something cool to continue the ‘Pay It Forward’ momentum. Stay tuned! πŸ˜‰ So I’m off to try to get caught up on the things I fell behind on yesterday – I’m still not even close to being caught up on blog-hopping and commenting and EntreCard drops – hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel will soon blind me… πŸ™‚

  1. I love the idea of your summer house, and way to go on the great loot!! You will never have a stain from a drop of ketchup again.

  2. Hello from twitterland!
Great prize, congrats! And the summer house does sound fab. It must be great for when you need a little bit of downtime.

  3. I saw the pics and was like, “Hey! I have that!” DUR. You’re the absolute greatest gal ever. I hope you win lots of prizes from me because you’re a super participator and a wicked good friend.

  4. Before I decided to give in a go with a contract phone, I had a prepaid and it was great. It just cost to much to send text. Now I love my iphone.

  5. I’m totally with you! I blog when I should be doing other things (ANY thing!) And what a cool prize you got!

  6. Your summer house sounds coolio, I’m jealous. Actually, all of the houses here are pretty much summer houses since we live in FL and it’s practically summer all year round.

I love the page/speaker phone action. At least it keeps PN entertained. Sorry you didn’t get any blogging…err cleaning done yesterday.

  7. Great randomness! My youngest is forever txting me (from the other room) with random things or wanting to chat for no reason. Apparently getting up and coming into the room I’m in is just too much work. Sometimes I want to strangle my mom for getting her a phone with unlimited txting! When we do have actual conversations and she suspects I’m not listening, she will quiz me on what she’s said so I can’t get away with the ‘uh huh..’ ‘umm really?’ stuff.

    Have a great day!

  8. You are so hilarious! Yes, Michelle is obessesed with cell phones, too. She has about 7 Disney Princess ones. I agree with you about starting a fund now to pay for her's.

Remember back in the day when there were no cell phones???? There was ONE phone in the house and was within hearing distance of mom & dad. So – they knew who you were talking to and about what!!!

  9. When we say “Can I do anything to help?” We’re often looking for “You’ve done too much already. Why don’t you run upstairs and watch one of your man shows. You’ve earned it.”

  10. I wish I had a summer house. How awesome is that? I would love to be able to commute to the back yard for work.

  11. Hi Stacy.
Not to scare the living junk out of you or anything but, one day your princess will be 17 and will be capable of producing over 1000 text messages on her cell phone in a month. Trust me. I know.
    πŸ™‚

btw. Those Tide pens are great to carry around with you or leave in your car.

  12. Hey girl! Love the random thoughts and I want a Summer House! That sounds like fun! I love that Princess Nagger calls on the phone… something my kids would do! LOL Have a great Tuesday!

  13. That recipe box is adorable! I definitely need something like that. Mine are scattered in drawers and kitchen cabinets all over!

  14. I never get anything done when my husband is home. Also he loves to make small talk when we’re both on the computer, it makes it difficult to read and comment when he’s yammering at me. I need a mute button for him. Happy Tuesday.

  15. I want a summer house! I have a summer shed, does that count?

I also want to figure out a way to get PR people to send me free crap. That looks like a good deal!

  16. That is the coolest prize! I love Tide to Go, LOVE it! I didn’t know they were making it in a mini version now. This is such exciting news!

  17. When Hot Sexy Husband stays home from work…it isn’t talking he is interested in…wink, wink.

  18. Love you randomness!

I’m not much of a phone person either. The only person who uses fewer mintues on our plan than me is my mother-in-law!

  19. @Keely: It is cool – that was one of the selling points when we were buying this house…that and the original barn that we still need to restore… πŸ˜‰ It’s going to be hard to top this if we ever decide to move! πŸ™‚

@pam: The summer house is a cool outbuilding – both the house and the summer house have so much character – the stories they could tell! LOL! Sweet loot, isn’t it? Now I won’t have to stress when the Princess Nagger spills stuff…LOL!

@Amie Hartman: Thanks, Amie! πŸ™‚ It is great for ‘down time’ – and it’s funny, because when the Princess Nagger wants some independent time, she asks if maybe we don’t have something we could be doing in the summer house… so she can get into whatever it is she plans to get into…like feeding the cat or putting a tutu on him…heh, heh! πŸ™‚

@Julie@Cool Mom Guide: Awwww! Bless your heart, Julie! πŸ™‚ You always totally make my day!! πŸ™‚

@Stesha: I hear ya on the text money…good thing I don’t text as much as I could – for now! πŸ˜‰ I have been looking at the iPhone’s…and there are a couple of ‘wannabes’ that I’ve been checking out, too. One of these days I’m going to spoil myself and get something different… πŸ˜‰

@Sarah’s Blogtastic Adventures: This Summer House would be PERFECT in Bermuda…or anywhere in the Caribbean…I could live with that! πŸ˜‰

@Lolli: LOL Lolli! I’m the same way…though I did get 1/2 of my grocery shopping done today…then Hovering Hubby came home early, so now I’m lagging behind more…LOL!! Ah well, it’ll all even out in the end…my house won’t ever be as clean as it used to be though…(grin!!) I sure got lucky on the prize, didn’t I? πŸ™‚

@Casey: We’re thinking about converting the second floor of it into guest quarters…you could always come stay in it if you want, Casey! πŸ˜‰ LOL! Love that all of the houses in FL are pretty much summer houses…heh, heh!! The page/speaker phone action certainly does keep PN entertained – and gives hubby and I quite the laugh, too! She always sounds so ‘business like’ when she first calls…it cracks me up! πŸ™‚ Yep, not much cleaning or blogging done yesterday…or today, for that matter! LOL! Eh, maybe tomorrow… πŸ˜‰

@Raven: Thanks, Raven! Oh that’s funny your youngest texts you from the next room…I definitely see that in my future! LOL!! Oh, and I definitely see the quizzing action going on at some point, too… πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

@Peggy: LOL! Yes, I suppose it does sound dangerous…heh, heh! Right now it’s not a functioning one (we have to repair the crumbling 192 year old chimney first) so we use it to store stuff in…but eventually, when we convert to a media room, we want the fireplace working again… πŸ™‚

@Jenni Jiggety: LOL Jenni! It is niiice! πŸ˜‰

@Sue: Thanks, Sue! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one… πŸ˜‰

@Lady Bug: LOL!! Princess Nagger has her play cell phones, too – she annoys Dada by talking to her ‘boyfriends’… πŸ˜‰ We were lucky – we had 3 phones in our house so us kids could get away with talking to our friends without our parents listening to every word…though they would pick up the extension every so often to check up on us…LOL!!!

@justusseven: Awww, thank you so much! πŸ™‚

@Ryan@Cool Dad Central: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! You know, you do have something there, Ryan! Maybe next time I’ll just shoo him off to watch one of his ‘man shows’ so he’ll stay out of my hair until I get what I need to get done…(grin!!!) Although I do love that he will clean the toilets if I ask him to…(grin!!) πŸ™‚

@Anne: LOL Anne! I guess I do ‘commute to the back yard’ for work…LOL!! I definitely can’t complain! πŸ˜‰

@Dr Zibbs: We have good taste, don’t we? πŸ˜‰ Thanks so much for stopping by! πŸ™‚

@I am Harriet: LOL Harriet!! I can believe it…I am NOT looking forward to the teenage years…not at all! πŸ™‚ The Tide pens are great, aren’t they? I have a couple in my purse, and I’ve stashed a couple in my vehicle as well as hubby’s car (he doesn’t know it yet, heh, heh!) and a couple in each bathroom. Now I’m prepared for anything! πŸ˜‰

@Jenn@mylifewiththecrazies: Thanks, Jenn! That’s cool that calling on the phone would be something your kids would do, too! πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

@LiLu: I can totally relate, LiLu – my recipes are scattered all over, too – hopefully having this recipe box will motivate me to organize them all in one place! πŸ˜‰

@mrsbear: ROTFLMAO!! A mute button…oh, that’s what I SO need!! Sounds like your hubby does the same thing mine does – with the yammering…LOL!!! πŸ™‚

@FoN: Sure, FoN! You can use the summer shed as a summer house – as long as you’re not talking about an outhouse…(grin!!) Though I suppose you could use an outhouse as a summer house, too – I mean if you’re like my hubby and camp with reading materials in the bathroom…why not a laptop? (grin!!) I’ve got to figure out how to get PR people to send me free crap, too – I so far have been contacted out of the blue by 2 companies, which was flattering…now I’m jonesin’ for more! πŸ˜‰

@blueviolet: Isn’t it the coolest prize? I was so surprised at how cool it was! (Thanks again, Julie! *grin!*) Yeah, the mini version is awesome – so convenient for ‘on the go’! πŸ˜‰

@Heather: LOL Heather! To be perfectly honest, I was hoping for a little ‘wink, wink’ yesterday after Princess Nagger left for school…but poor hubby was feeling so icky with his sinuses, he needed to take a ‘regular’ nap…(grin!!)

@sandiesimplysays: Thanks, Sandie! πŸ™‚ I talk fast, but I type faster than I talk, so I get more across via email…and I get too restless sitting on a phone, thinking about all the other stuff I could be doing but can’t… πŸ˜‰ Thanks so much for stopping by! πŸ™‚

  20. i think i speak for all of us out here in bloggy land when i say, we need to see pictures of this summer house. it sounds sooooooooo cool!

  21. Ha! My husband has been off all week and as he’s kickin’ around the house, I have moments just like this where I want to say, “sweetie, can you try to keeping all talking when I’m not blogging?” (:

And we have a storage shed out back. I think we need to start calling it the “Summer House”.. much more cache!!

  22. My six year old LOVES the phone! She will call me from our guest house (where my parents live) to ask me for a hug….or a toy…or just to say she’s still over there! Sounds like Princess Nagger has the phone skills down too!

(I would love to live in a house built in 1812! Lucky girl!)

  23. Hi Stacy!

Love your blog πŸ™‚ Your randomness is a delight to read!

(I’m taking a break from blogging, but you know I’ll be back to visit here!–Take good care!)

  24. Mark and I JUST bought a regular cell phone. I LOVE it! I’ll never admit it, though. Oh. Crap. I think I just did.

  25. By the way, congrats on the Tide giveaway. It looks really cool! I could use a ten pack of stain remover.

  26. I would rather blog than do any of those household chores…that explains why there are never clean clothes in the closet!

  27. Whoa. A summer house?! Srsly? Very cool. Lol-yeah, my honey interupts me 40,000 times a day. By phone. No sick day necessary! Do you find yourself reading stories to your princess and realising halfway through that you have no idea what the damn story is about, but your voice is continuing on without you? Happens to me ALL THE TIME. πŸ™‚
