Fitness Friday

So today is ‘Day 1’ of my New Year Challenge of being a WiiFit Mommy! πŸ˜‰ We bought a Wii a few months ago, and I searched and searched until I finally was able to get a WiiFit…it is hilariously funny to do, and you find muscles that you didn’t know you had! πŸ˜‰ I joined up with the WiiFit Mommies – there’s a WiiFit Mommies Twitter Party tomorrow night that is going to be so much fun! I’ve already told my hubby I’ll need to be on my computer – uninterrupted – between 8 and 10 tomorrow night! (evil grin!)

At any rate, I haven’t stepped on the WiiFit for…ahem…about 2 months. GAH! Ah well, the New Year, New You challenge is a great motivator! My biggest challenge is balance – I have our almost 200 year old house working against me – the floors are sloped! All the floors in our house slope inwards…if you have anything round (balls, markers, pens, crayons) I can guarantee that they will roll towards the center of the house. That’s how my Little Princess loses small round objects to the abyss under the couch…LOL!!

I love the games on WiiFit (and how it thinks I’m much younger than I am…heh, heh!), it’s been a lot of fun working towards unlocking the next levels. I attempted a few Yoga poses, but because of the sloped floors (yeah, we’ll go with that excuse) I tend to wobble too much and can’t hold the pose. I noticed that several people mention doing the Yoga poses against the wall – since we don’t have any available wall space (in view of the TV), I suppose I can try it with a chair…so long as I use one of the chairs that don’t have wheels on them! πŸ˜‰

Since I’m just re-starting my WiiFit moments, thanks to WiiFit Mommies, next Friday’s ‘Fitness Friday’ will be much more informative than this week! πŸ˜‰ Stay tuned for my WiiFit Progress reports!

About Stacy (the Random Cool Chick)

After 20+ years in the Corporate World and years of infertility, Princess Nagger made her miraculous appearance and I chose to become a SAHM and WAHM - I love every minute of it. We added Little Dude through adoption, adding a whole new dimension to our family. We have an eclectic mix of pets: dogs, cats, birds and fish. I love to cook and try new techniques to turn ordinary into extraordinary. Crafty by nature, I take on a lot of unique projects and enjoy seeing the end result. My favorite, of course, is making my own wine out of fruits and grapes. Experiments with water currently underway. I blog about the joys of parenting, family, friends, life, love and anything else that strikes my fancy. I do enjoy doing reviews and giveaways for products I use, believe in and can stand behind.

  1. I love the purple! I have a Wii–but no Wii Fit… If it’s as fun as people say it is, I should probably invest πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to hear all about your Wii Fit adventures!

Recent blog post: Avocados–good for you!

  2. I do consider myself lucky! We searched all over eBay and actually got a brand new one in the box for $20.00 less than in the store…with free shipping…back in August. They are out there if you hunt – carefully – for them. Now that the holidays are over, if you look on eBay or even craigslist, you might find a good deal (since they won’t be skyrocketing the prices like they tend to do before Christmas when everyone is desperate!) Good Luck! πŸ™‚ The WiiFit is a hoot! πŸ˜€

  3. Thank you, Nicole! I went with purple because that’s my Little Princess’s favorite color…of the moment… πŸ˜‰

If you have a Wii, you’ll definitely want to get a WiiFit – it’s great! And it really does help keep you motivated to work out – I hate the terminology ‘work out’, but when you’re using the Wii and the WiiFit, you are having so much fun you really can’t consider it ‘work’! πŸ˜€

  4. I agree with Nicole, I love the fresh look of the purple on your blog! Plus your little one’s face is priceless! πŸ˜‰

Do you plan to vlog your Wii Fit experience? I am debating videoing my steps on the wii board next week. Just haven’t built the courage yet! Videoing the TV screen is good enough so far…

Good luck on your challenge and I know we can do it!

Here’s to making it SHINE in 2009!

  5. Thanks, DJane! πŸ˜‰ I’m sure my Little Princess is not going to like me using that photo of her when she gets older…but it’s a mom’s prerogative! LOL!!

Urgh…vlog my WiiFit experience? Probably not right away…little too bashful to do that just yet! πŸ˜‰ I think videoing the screen would work better for now for me, too! 😎

Good luck on your challenge, too…you bet we can do it!! πŸ˜€

Amen to making it SHINE in 2009! O:-)

  6. LOL! I had to dust mine off today when I finally took it out…my Little Princess has been nagging me about even doing our ‘Fitness Test’, it’s been so long since we’ve even played the regular games on the Wii! So you are not alone! πŸ˜‰

  7. Awwww…thank you so much, Lydia! It is much more pleasing to the eye, isn’t it? πŸ˜‰

  8. Yeah for the Fitness Friday post!!
I’m glad you are gearing up to go on your Wii Fit again πŸ™‚ Hopefully we can all keep each other motivated!

I’m sitting here laughing thinking of you trying to do a yoga pose and slanting with your house’s floors!! LOL

  9. Ooh, our plan is all working so nicely! We’re motivating each other to get fit together, supporting each other and making friends! I could cry, I’m so happy! If it makes you feel better, I fall and my floors aren’t sloped! If a wall isn’t available, I have my hubby stand there, I feel like I’ll take a chair down with me πŸ™‚

  10. I’m okay with some of the yoga poses but recently tried the “Dance” pose and couldn’t stay balanced! No wall space here either so I tried to get my husband to help me stay up, but he couldn’t. LOL Oh well!

    My post is up too!

  11. Sorry slightly off topic to the whole fitness thing but I’m jealous that you have a 200 year old house. I love old houses. *Sigh* I hope to have an old plantation house that we are close to someday. BTW, I left you an award on my blog. You already have it, but wanted to give it to you anyawy. πŸ™‚

  12. I’ve been reading about WiiFit on various blogs lately but I don’t know much about it but from your description, it sounds like lots of fun and I could use some laughs so I’m going to check it out. I loved the description of your sloping floors πŸ™‚

  13. LOL! Yep, it does cause quite a debacle when you try to do anything that sloped floors really tend to work against… When I did my first ‘balance’ test, I had to lean WAY forward before that darn little dot would ‘center’ for me! LOL!!

It’s going to be so nice to have this little ‘support group’ – I’m not going to be able to slack off like I did! LOL!! Thanks for stopping by…and you’re quite welcome for the laugh…stay tuned, there’ll be many more of those! 😎

  14. Absolutely ‘The Plan’ is definitely working…otherwise my WiiFit might still be gathering dust, ‘cuz I didn’t want to get ragged on by the trainer about being gone for an eternity…I got over it, though, and that trainer is going to be dancing a happy jig when I get on it again later today…(snicker!)

I think I’d be afraid to have hubby standing behind me when I’m trying to do my workout – I might injure him in ways I don’t want to think about… πŸ˜‰ We’ll see how the chair works – we don’t have carpet, just the original wood floors – so it might not work because I might end up pushing the chair away from me and falling anyway! LOL!! I’ll keep y’all posted on my sloped floors antics! πŸ˜‰ Just an additional challenge to the challenge! LOL!

  15. Ohhhh, you brave girl! I haven’t tried the ‘Dance’ pose yet…I figure I better conquer the other ones, you know, like the basic ‘Tree’ pose, before I try something else! LOL!!! That’s exactly what I’m afraid of…put my off-balanced self, add in a sloped floor and a hubby, and I think I would wreak some serious havoc! πŸ˜‰

I’m off to read your post! Thanks so much for stopping by! πŸ™‚

  16. When we were in the market to buy a house 5-1/2 years ago, we really were drawn to the ‘old’ ones – we lucked out BIG TIME with this one, it was built in 1817 and the previous owners kept it in intact (meaning, they didn’t chop it up and divide it into apartments as is so popular out here with these old houses). It has a Summer House (the original ‘Summer Kitchen’ since they didn’t have kitchens in the houses back then, it still has the original ‘walk-in’ fireplace that we’ll be repairing this year to make it ‘work’ again), the original barn (which needs some work), and the original hand-dug stone well, and all the original porcelain door knobs (which is unusual – people usually strip those out first and sell them). It has a lot of character, and boy-oh-boy if these walls could talk! One of the sons who grew up in the house stopped by with his fiance to show her where he grew up, and I got more details of what got changed (like the removal of the original outhouse, why they changed the fireplace in the living room to a built-in bookcase, etc.) We had done a remodel of the downstairs – added a powder room and a bar, but we used all 100 year old barn lumber and made it look like it ‘fits’ the house. He said his parents were going to be really happy that we love the house as much as they did and were keeping it in tune with its wonderful history. πŸ™‚

See? No problem going off-topic, now I’ve given you a long-winded reply! LOL!! Thanks so much for the award – I’ll be posting later about it and link back to you! πŸ˜‰

  17. Ah! So you will be my competition for the title of ‘Queen of Hula Hoop’! πŸ˜‰ Cool! I love a challenge! (grin!!) I actually surprised myself with that one, I figured I’d fail miserably but have been doing pretty good…Queen? Not yet, but I’ll get there! πŸ˜‰

  18. LOL! I guess I didn’t really describe it as thoroughly as I could have…heh, heh! That’s probably because I’m getting ‘reacquainted’ with it after having ignored it for a while… πŸ˜‰ I’ll be more descriptive of all the cool stuff on it on the next Fitness Friday, I promise!

Meanwhile, if you Google it, you can find some great video previews and screen shots of what it is and does – it really is a cool addition to the Wii…and a fun workout! πŸ˜‰

I have a feeling my sloped floors are going to end up being a running gag in my Fitness Friday posts… 😎

  19. That sounds really fun. We just got “the kids” *cough* a Wii for Christmas and I’m hoping to get the Wii fit in a couple of months.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  20. LOL! I’m sure ‘the kids’ will be hooked on the Wii just like our Little Princess’s mommy and daddy have been…oh, yeah, and she loves it to – mostly to watch us and laugh at us…and kick our butts in bowling! LOL!!! You’ll love the WiiFit when you get it, too – it doesn’t even ‘feel’ like you’re ‘working out’! πŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by! πŸ˜€
